Fedora Hardware :: High Point Rocket RAID 2310 AndFC14

Dec 8, 2010

Does anyone know of any drivers for this RAID card? I tried downloading the source from the HighPoint site, but make would always return with an error that says it supports other kernel version other than FC14's. Is there a workaround, or solution to this? Please help, this is part of a project to completely move away from Windows servers to something much more secure and robust (The windows servers are performance hogs)

General :: Move Mount Point To New RAID Set

Dec 3, 2010

I have a CentOS 5 production server with multiple OS-managed RAID-1 sets. I'd like to add a new mirrored set and move the /var partition to the new drives. On a non-RAID system I would boot from the install CD to edit fstab and copy the existing files to the new drive, but I'm pretty sure booting off the install CD does not recognize my RAID setup.

Ubuntu :: RAID Configuration - HD Crashes (No Mount Point)

Mar 17, 2010

We have 4 HDs on our server. One of them broke last night. I could see a message on the server and after restarting the S.M.A.R.T. on the BIOS was recognizing one HD as bad. After removing the failing HD, the server is now up and running. I do not remember how I configured the HDs. During the installation I had a few problems and I change a few times what I wanted to do. I am sure I had at least a RAID0 with 2 disks but I could have put all the 4 disk in the RAID having 2 disks as spare drives or I may have created another volume for the other 2....

dmraid return: No raid disks
Code:
$ sudo dmraid -ay -vvv -d
WARN: locking /var/lock/dmraid/.lock

no raid disks
WARN: unlocking /var/lock/dmraid/.lock
MountManager seems to report that sda and sdb belong to linux_raid_member.
However there is no mount point.

Questions:
1-How do I find how the disk were and are configured?
2-How can I find what was on the disk that died? (Was it a spare drive or one of the 2 in mirror)?
3-What do I need to do now to be sure that the mirroring is working OK? (considering that there is a spare drive). Do I need to use a command to let ubuntu mirror the drive on the new one?
4-What do I need to do when I get a replacement of the broken disk?
5-What is an utility that can show me easily how the disks are configured and eventually makes a change.

CentOS 5 Hardware :: Install 5.6 On I5 2310

Sep 20, 2011

I'm using Centos 5.6 and recently I update my hardware as follows:

previously I useļ¼š

CPU Pentium D 805
Motherboard Intel CD102GGC2
RAM 2G DDR2 667

now it's:

CPU i5 2310
Motherboard Gigabyte H61M-D2P-B3
RAM 4G DDR3 1333

As I start system (Centos 5.6), the following message appears on screen:

Unable to access resume device (Label=SWAP-sda2) mount: could not find filesystem '/dev/root' setuproot: moving /dev failed: No such file or directory setuproot: error mounting /proc No such file or directory
etc

Kernel panic - not syncing: Attempting to kill init!

I guess maybe I've replaced too much hardware so I'm reinstalling my system. As I boot from DVD, I choose graphic interface for installation. When installing program checking video card, it says I'm using INTEL sandy bridge integrated graphics controller. Then after about another 2 messages (they go so fast that I can't see them clearly), screen goes black without responding.

Ubuntu Networking :: T-mobile Rocket 2.0 Not Flipping?

I just picked up a 3g modem from T-mobile that I cannot get to work with 10.04Inserting the device and running lsusb gives Bus 002 Device 002: ID 19d2:1201 ONDA Communication S.p.A. I installed usb-modeswitch but I don't know how to configure the usb-modeswitch.conf I know I need to provide the default vendor and product as what is given above vendor=0x19d2 and product=0x1201 but I don't know what to put for the target vendor and product. I'm sure vendor is the same 0x19d2, but the product.. I don't know what to put for the target product so the usb storage will flip to usb modem.

Or maybe I'm completely wrong about how I'm going about this.I've researched this numerous places:[URL]nd I can see the basic idea of how to proceed, but I think I'm stuck at flipping the device from storage to modem mode.I've got 14 days to return this thing if I can't get it to work. I'm willing to mess around for all 14 of them if we can get this to work and help out any other ubuntu users who want to buy this device.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Rocket Fish Webcam Get Black Screen?

Jan 18, 2011

I got a Rocketfish RF-WEB2C webcam, plugged it into my Dell Inspiron Mini 10, and it worked just fine. Cheese ran it, tinychat ran it, skype ran it, all was good. Today, all I get is a black screen. Tinychat claims that it isn't giving out any signal, though can detect it, and Cheese showed me a black screen, though listed it as the the device it was using. I figure it isn't a lack of drivers, as it worked yesterday, and it really shouldn't have broken yet, as I just opened it yesterday.

Fedora X86/64bit :: Use Fedora / Linux Raid Program To Manage Raid Array?

Jun 24, 2009

I've tried to install Fedora 11, both 32 and 64 on my main machine. It could not install as it stops on the first install window. I've already filed a bug but really haven't seen any feed back yet.The bug has something to do with Anaconda and the Raid array but I really can't tell.

I have an Intel Board (see signature). I am running intel raid software under W7 currently. It works fine. But, I'm wondering, when I attempt to install F!!, is my current raid set-up causing problems? Do I need to get rid of the intel raid software and use a Fedor/Linux raid program to manage the raid array??

Networking :: Policy Routing Using Two Point-to-point Links?

Aug 27, 2009

This one has been driving me nuts for some days now:My Gentoo box which is acting as an internet gateway has two point-to-point interfaces, ppp0 (PPPoE to my ISP) and ppp1 (PPTP VPN link to IPREDator). Packets from my local network are just routed through ppp0 and now the fun part starts: I want to MARK (netfilter...) all packets originating from one specific user on that box in order to use another routing table that will contain a default route via the ppp1 interface.Marking seems to work fine as does the second routing table. But quite mysteriously (at least for me), the packets sent out on ppp1 contain the wrong source IP address, namely the address associated with ppp0.So here is what ifconfig and friends tell me:Network interfaces:

Code:
# ifconfig ppp0
ppp0 Protokoll:Punkt-zu-Punkt Verbindung

Ubuntu Servers :: RAID-5 Recovery (spare/active) / Degraded And Can't Create Raid ,auto Stop Raid [md1]?

Feb 1, 2011

Could any RAID gurus kindly assist me on the following RAID-5 issue?I have an mdadm-created RAID5 array consisting of 4 discs. One of the discs was dropping out, so I decided to replace it. Somehow, this went terribly wrong and I succeeded in marking two of the drives as faulty, and the re-adding them as spare.

Now the array is (logically) no longer able to start:

mdadm: Not enough devices to start the array.Degraded and can't create RAID ,auto stop RAID [md1]

I was able to examine the disks though:

Code:
root@127.0.0.1:/etc# mdadm --examine /dev/sdb2
/dev/sdb2:
Magic : a92b4efc
Version : 00.90.00
code....

Code:
mdadm --create --assume-clean --level=5 --raid-devices=4 /dev/sda2 /dev/sdb2 /dev/sdc2 /dev/sdd2
As I don't want to ruin the maybe small chance I have left to rescue my data, I would like to hear the input of this wise community.

Ubuntu Networking :: Point To Point (ad-hoc) SSH Over USB Or Ethernet?

Jun 3, 2010

I was wondering if there is any way to SSH from one computer to another and completely bypass a router or any other network infrastructure. The reason I ask is because my robot ( same one in this post ) often needs to change which wireless network it automatically connects to, however it is getting annoying to have to drag out a monitor and plug it in along with a keyboard and mouse every time this needs to happen. Instead I'd much rather just plug my laptop into the other computer, SSH in and change the network myself.

So I thought I would ask you kind people if this is possible. The robot's computer has unused ethernet and USB ports, and I'd like to use those if at all possible (and with linux, anything is possible! -- sorta). I thought about doing something with ad-hoc, but this would limit my range (in infrastructure mode I can control the thing anywhere there is internet), and is to be avoided.

Fedora :: Using Fedora As Wireless Access Point?

I put a Linksys wireless PCI card into the fedora server, and it works with b43-fwcutter-011 and lsmod shows b43 loaded. iwconfig lists wlan0. anyway, what I need to know is if anyone has any instructions on how to make the server also be a wireless access point w/ WPA2 encryption for my girlfriend's notebook so that she doesn't have to use her ethernet cable anymore. I've done some google searching and haven't came across anything that was of much help.I ran system-config-network but it didn't seem to have a section on setting up wlan0 to be an access point.

Fedora :: Unrar Suddenly Slow / Make It High?

I've found a few Ubuntu posts about it on Google, but in true Ubuntu fashion nobody has any answers!

What's odd is that when I unrar a file from (Nautilus or "unrar x *.rar") it takes say 4mins, then if I do it again it takes 15secs, like as if its caching somewhere.

Fedora :: Mounting Point Of A DVD Image File In A VM?

Dec 8, 2009

I installed Fedora 12 in a virtual environment using VMware workstation, I am learning a Linux book. 1. The book ask me to change my directory to Fedora 12 DVD's RPM file directory under terminal. It assumes the mounting point for the disk image would be e.g. '/media/dvd/packages/', but if I type in 'cd /media/dvd/packages/' it obviously won't find the directory. So how do I navigate to the directory using CD command, but I guess put it more accurately I will need to find out what is the mounting point of the Fedora 12 DVD image in my VM.

2. I have another question with my root password, I cannot login as root when the VM first boot up, at the login screen where you are asked about your account name and password screen, So I have to use my normal user account (made up by my first name and last name) when I installed Fedora. But I know exactly what my root password is. The weird thing is I can still access to the root account in the desktops windows environment no problem. e.g. if I go to the top bar 'system-administration-authentication' program, it will let me in after I typed in my root password. In other words, I have access to all the admin tools in the desktop environment.
