Fedora Hardware :: Can't Access LG Vu C920 Phone USB Files In F12?

Jan 31, 2010

In F10 I could access Pics, Music, Video, etc files on the USB card with no problem. In F12, nada.lsusb sees the phone, lists it as ID 05c6 : 1000 Qualcomm, Inc.When I hotplug the phone on a F10 install I see that it loads 3 modules. vfat, fat, and usb_storage.So, on the F12 install I modprobed those drivers, plugged in the phone, and still no trace of it.I get the feeling that I'm supposed to modify some udev or hal files to get this thing working again, but

Ubuntu Networking :: The Phone Can Access The Internet Through The Computer Unable To Get Access To Https Sites, Like Webmails

Dec 31, 2010

I managed to configure my W890i phone to get access to internet through an ubuntu-based computer. It's very easy to use the phone to give internet access to the computer, but the opposite is quite more tricky. For that I've done the following

----On the phone---

-Set the USB network option to "through computer", so that the phone uses the computer's internet connection and not the opposite.

-Decide and set "Shared Network" parameters: user, pasword and workgroup.

-In "conectivity-> internet connection" set "allow local network" to "yes"

----On Ubuntu 10.04---

-Install samba, samba-client, smbfs, smbclient, firestarter and dhcp3-server

-Configure Samba (System-> Administration-> Shared folders): same workgroup as in the phone, add new user (the phone), passwd this new user. In my case the user was called "w890i" and the password given was the same.

-Once the phone is connected to the computer through USB (then select "phone mode"), a new connection appears in NetworkManager: usb0.The aim is to create a shared network that gives internet access to this device. Edit the IPv4 parameters of this new connection, set them to Manual and give an IP adress (192.168.0.1) and a subnet mask (255.255.255.0); the rest of the fields are left empty.Connect this network.

-Set firestarter to use dhcp3: sudo ln -sf /etc/init.d/dhcp3-server /etc/init.d/dhcpd

-Launch firestarter and follow the wizard. Set "allow internet shared connection", choose the device for the primary internet access, and then the device for the shared network (usb0). Then change the settings for firestarter: activate DHCP for local network, set IP to the one we gave before (192.168.0.1).

-Open dhcp3-server config file sudo gedit /etc/default/dhcp3-server And set INTERFACES="usb0"

-Set the policies of firestarter: in incoming connections, allow connections from the IP adress given to the phone (192.168.0.1). Then add rules for the ports that need to be open for this connection. I opened HTTP, HTTPS, SMB, SMTP, POP3, IMAP, IMAPS, DHCP for all the connections in the local network.

-Apply policies and start the firewall.

------------

After all this, the phone can access the internet through the computer. Two problems appeared:

1. I couldn't get access to https sites, like webmails. The phone gave a "communication error". But then I tried with Opera instead of the browser built in the phone's firmware, and I could finally get to https sites.

2. I couldn't retrieve mail, neither POP nor IMAP nor IMAPS. I thought it was a firmware problem again, and I tried out several mobile phone email clients written in java, but none of them worked.

So this is at the moment the problem. If I connect from the phone to the internet directly through 3G, the email clients work for all my accounts. I don't think it's a firewall problem, because the ports are opened for this connection

Ubuntu Networking :: Using Internet Via Access Point Of Phone Using Bluetooth?

Jul 31, 2010

I've a Nokia 2323 Classic which I want to use to access to the internet on my laptop.

A friend of mine with a Dell Inspiron 15 running Windows 7 could connect to the net by just pairing up and right clicking on my phone's icon in the devices menu and selecting connect to internet via access point.

I've an eMachines E725 which lacks bluetooth. To overcome this I used a dongle which was able to successfully pair up with my phone via the bluetooth menu in preferences.

So what next ? How do I use the phone to connect to the internet directly via access point ?

I noticed that I did not need any operator related settings to do so in windows 7 and the phone worked regardless of SIM card present so I assume it should work similarly in linux.

What is left is to ask the system to treat it as an internet access device and use it that way.

How do I do it ? I don't mind a commandline way but a GUI would be better because I'm not the only person using my laptop.

OpenSUSE Install :: Bluedevil Under 11.4 RC2 - Cannot Send Files From The PC To The Phone

Mar 8, 2011

+ I had struggled with getting it to work on 11.3, KDE 4.4. Brought in the KDE 4.5 repos and did zypper dup with fabulous success. Bluedevil 1.0-2.9 was a charm.

+ We're only days away from 11.4, and that was so painless I figured I'd go ahead and upgrade to 11.4. After hours of RTFM on zypper I got all the 11.4 repos (all I could find) and did zypper dup again.

+ Smooth, painless. Geen probleme.

+ Except: - the upgrade also upgraded bluedevil to 1.0-3.8.1. I've tried rolling back but the problems remain.

+ The problems are: - I cannot send files from the PC to the phone, although I can send files from the phone to the PC.

- The PC prompts are very short-lived and are obscured by the taskbar unless you are primed for them to bring up the notification manager instantly, so pairing from the phone to the PC is difficult

-I cannot browse the phone despite the app suggesting I can. I also had to manually install a directory (/home/$user/$phone_name) to avoid an error message. Presumably the app tries to mount the phone to this directory, but it does not succeed.

+ I do think I have all the necessary devel files, but would love to do a file list comparison with someone who has this working on OS 11.4/KDE 4.5.5 Yes, I know this is beta so don't abuse me, I'm more than willing to do trials and submit explicit data as I have here. But I also would like to get it to work. I had it working on 11.3 / KDE 4.5.5. FWIW, pretty much everything else works flawlessly on OS 11.4. Firefox 4 beta has a few problems, but that is not an OS 11.4 issue...

Ubuntu :: Unable To Connect To The Phone Via USB On Xubuntu Box To Drop Files?

Feb 6, 2010

I'd like to put a few MP3s on it but I'm not able to connect to the phone via USB on my xubuntu box to drop files onto it. It works on my company computer (Windows XP) so I know it's not a problem with the phone.

I'm still somewhat of an ubuntu noob so it may be a quick fix that I have overlooked/don't understand yet. Once I plug the phone in to the box, I tell Android to enable USB storage and mount the drive. Here's the error I get afterwards:

Quote:

Failed to mount "3G Removable Volume".

mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/sdc1,
missing codepage or helper program, or other error
In some cases useful info is found in syslog - try
dmesg | tail or so.

Here's the settings set in Storage Device Manager:

Mountpoint: /media/sdc1
Type: vfat
Options: defaults,users,utf8,mark=007,uid=1000,user

Is there a config change I need to make in Storage Device Manager to make this work, or am I missing something else?

Red Hat / Fedora :: Can't See Files In FTP Nor Access Them From Web

Sep 3, 2010

I set up nginx on a VM somewhere and everything is working fine. Then I tried to build some directory structure under the nginx root HTML folder. I received 403 forbidden for a file so normally I assumed permissions. Using root I gave entire dir structure chmod -R a+r /usr/share/ngnix/html/myfolder. Still 403.
Then I SFTP'd into this box using a didcated web FTP account. I am not that experienced to be able to tell how is this user set nor which permissions it has, but by default it can view all directories in the system. When navigating to the HTML root I could see myfolder but when going inside I was seeing nothing. No subfolder, no files. needless to say ls -al from bash on any of these is giving me rwxr--r-- for all files and directories.

if I copy some arbitrary file from within the myfolder dir to html root and give it a+r it IS accessible from web and SFTP. If this were only a 403 I would assume something I am not configuring properly on nginx, but since SFTP is showing same behavior I am led to believe it is something in the directories themselves!? What else is there besides file permissions?
