i just got fedora 13 from the dvd 64 bit and when i looked at how much space it took up in computer in it said i only had 43 gigs left out of a 610 gig hard drive then i go to my home folder it says 504 gigs of free space but then i look at my system monitor it said i had 547 gigs is this a bug.

i signed up for an online storage website because i want to clear up some harddrive space. the way they upload is java based and whenever i get to the upload page i get the message at the top of the screen that says "additional plugins are required to display all the media on this page." when i click on "install missing plugins" it tells me "no suitable plugins were found." obviously i need to manually install something, what should i install? i cant always understand the descriptions in synaptic.

I accidentally formatted my internal HDD and unmounted it and now my computer won't detect it as a bootable device. I have a system recovery disc but it doesn't seem to be making any difference. Also I do not have my windows 7 installation disc nor can I write discs.
Is there a way I can fix this and keep all of my important files?
Since puppy installs in ram, unstead of on harddrive, does that mean you could not use that computer as a dual boot one? I mean won't puppy always be wanting to run on boot up, since it's not on a seperate partitian ?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a miniSD card that I use for my BlackBerry. It's 8GB large so I decided to put it in an SD jacket and use it in my camera.
When I plug the SD card into my computer, Nautilus and Disk Usage Analyzer show 1.4 GB yet `fdisk -l`, `df -h` and gparted all show 2.8GB being used.

The files shown on the disk are only 1.4GB and my BlackBerry files, yet when I put the disk into my camera, I can see the unaccounted for photos and videos.
I've used gparted to see if there was some unknown/invisible-to-nautilus partition and I can't find one (just as `df -h` says).
I tried doing a `dd` of the entire disk, but that does me no good when I mount the image... it still shows me 1.4GB.
What can I do to see the other files? I'm a computer science undergrad, so you can be as technical as you wish.
After moving to Lucid Lynx, I've noticed, that when I view Folder Preferences, Nautilus no longer displays the free space available, but instead displays "Free space: Unknown".
In some cases it still appears to show the free space, for example when viewing properties of Home folder, or viewing the properties of a detachable HDD in media-folder (but not when trying to view the properties of any of the folders _on_ that HDD).

I was transferring data from one computer to my laptop and crash error came up on my laptop...

View 8 Replies View RelatedMy Lpatop has a 300G hard drive. It came, as many do pre-installed with a Window OS, in this case Vista 32-bit Home Prem. I had partitioned the hard drive to give a C drive of 97.7GB (Partition 2 /dev/sda 2/Host), a partition for applications and programs, D of 48.8GB (Partition 3 /dev/sda3) and a third partition, E for Documents, etc. of 148GB (Partition 5 /dev/sda 5 media/doc), which on scanning seems to be a sub set of a partition Partition 4 W95 Ext d LBA dev/sda 4.......There is another partition, Partition 1 /dev/sda1 and is called WinRE and is of 2.80GB.All are NTFS except for the Partition 4Windows works fine and I have no problems, but when I use Ubuntu I get errors on startup. In the first instance it will not install the latest Kernal and it gives a Battery Management error in GNOME. I get Storage warning messages all the time, which I believe is the cause of the problems. See enclosed.
I am assuming that the disk space issue is in Host and or Home. Other than all the operational data and applications I do NOT use the Ubuntu filing system, rather the Partition 5 which I created solely for this purpose, so it's not a case of deleting files, it is purely how Ubuntu created itself on install and its operational requirements.The problem is resulting in no space or ability to do updates and new installs, and Kernal and Gnome issues.

First of all I have to say I love Fedora, just switched from openSuSE after the system was kinda sluggish the last 2 or 3 versions. But one thing I always liked was the fact that when the system went into suspend my external harddrive spun down and after resuming it spun up again as soon as I tried to access a file. Now in Fedora the harddrive continues spinning and is unavailable after resuming. There is nothing about the harddrive in dmesg, not during suspending and not even when i unplug it after resuming.
View 7 Replies View Relatedso tonight i put a pc game in to install with wine, and after a few seconds i checked my desktop to see if it was mounted. nothing was there so i went to main menu>places>computer and i get this message every time i try: 'Nautilus cannot handle "computer" locations' and nautilus just doesnt open. i can however, browse every other folder in my system except computer. i only just noticed this today, so i dont know how long its been like this, and i dont think i installed anything to mess it up. and im not sure why the cd isnt mounting, because yesterday i ripped an audio cd into rythmbox with no trouble.

Is it possible to change my current nautilus window to have sudo capabilities,? e.g. to delete locked files. It may be lazy but if it takes a lot of navigation then it would be handy to somehow activate sudo from the open window without the terminal command (gksudo nautilus) which always begins at root.

But whatever image I try (some PNG or even SVG files) I can't get them to be displayed. It seems there is a very special format, size, type to match the Gnome/GTK+/Nautilus icon requirements...
Does anyone know how I can move the location bar in nautilus up by the toolbar, as shown by this pic:

I'd rather not have to download the source of nautilus and edit the code / compile it myself.
By the way, a guy on Ubuntu Forums thought this was a mockup. It's not. It's the regular version of Nautilus, only I removed some toolbar buttons through the /usr/share/nautilus/ui xml files.
I just want the location bar next to the toolbar to conserve screen space, and be a bit more like Finder.
