I had the latest adobe plug in installed in fedora 11, and then recently did a fresh install of fedora 12. The flash usually works fine until I open multiple tabs in firefox and crashes almost immeditely when I open multiple flash videos, though not always.It is not that big of a pain, but it would be nice to have multiple tabs open for the kind of work I do :-).
View 4 RepliesI'm using the Mozilla version (tar.gz) of FF 3.5.5 and I'm using the Adobe Repo to install Flash 10. Everytime I go to a Flash site (....., Hulu, Amazon VOD) the browser crashes. If I use the Fedora Repo version of FF (also 3.5.5) then the crashing is much less frequent, although it does still happen. I tried making a symbolic link from the flash-plugin directory under /usr/lib/flash-plugin into the /home/user/firefox/plugins directory, but still no dice. How do I get Flash to behave properly with my Mozilla version of FF 3.5.5...any tips?

Flash keep crashing if I open more than 1 tab that contain flash content. I tried chrome and firefox, but they still crashing. This did not just happen to Jolicloud, but also UNR 10.10 as well. Is there anyway i can fix this? because this is EXTREMELY annoying and i can't stand this anymore.
View 2 Replies View Relatedi am using 64-bit ubuntu 10.04 and recently upgraded my drivers to catalyst 11.2 (ati mobility radeon 5470). lately my flash has been crashing constantly, to the point where i've uninstalled it so i can use the internet. the browser eventually recovers on websites like facebook and the worst culprit, gmail (videos is hopeless), and does so immediately if i "killall npviewer.bin" - firefox will go unresponsive for about 30 seconds then recover, and depending on the website it will go unresponsive again - on gmail this only takes a few seconds. it happens in firefox, epiphany, and chromium. i think this problem looks familiar and there was some fix by editing a text file somewhere, but i can't find that problem i remember anymore so i can't check.

View 3 Replies View RelatedAfter updating to Natty Narwhal, Chromium began to occasionally crash, with the screen going black except for the mouse,which would freeze seconds later. Any sound playing will loop the last second or so, and no keyboard commands have any effect. As far as I can tell only a hard restart works.
The exact same thing happens with Firefox as well, except that Firefox freezes with the screen image, not blackness.
It is not consistent, but has been getting more frequent, and I have noticed a pattern of the crashes being associated with paying Flash video, and is almost certain with such.
I have tried updating Flash, Chromium, and running the Update manager roughly daily for a while now.
I can follow instructions well and usually actually understand what you're talking about.

when I watch Flash based video, more and more of my memory is eaten up until nothing is left and the system crashes. I don't see anything in the logs so I don't know where to start.
This ONLY happens with Flash.
i was having severe problems under slackware64-current with the adobe flash player plugin for firefox. browsing and watching videos on videos was a pain in the neck with the player crashing when opening a couple of tabs, and constant lockups for several seconds while the plugin wrapper that was running it was taking one cpu core for itself.
it seems the problem stems from a recent change in glibc that modified the memcpy implementation and caused a bit of havok in some packages. i'm guessing it's the same change (or a similar one) that caused problems with sysklogd and iptraf, among others, with strcpy and overlapping strings. remember the patches:

strictly speaking, those are problems in the program source code, but most people seem to think it's a bad idea to provide a memcpy that doesn't work for overlapping strings. a bit of discussion can be found here, with a few priceless comments by torvalds:

it seems the source code for the flash player plugin probably contains this bug, as manually modifying the libflashplayer.so binary to replace memcpy calls with memmove calls fixes the problems. at least it clearly did for me.
a quick recipe can be extracted from that bugzilla entry and one of its attachments.

that should modify the binary in place provided it's located at ~/.mozilla/plugins. the resulting binary is not distributable but the recipe is.
Iceweasel, Konqueror, makes no difference. Embedded flash videos make them crash every time. I had to install Flash Control on Iceweasel just to make it usable.

The kicker is I can't recall ever installing flash support in the first place.

I'm trying to load the flash stuff in webpages, but it says i need the flash plugin.
I download the YUM rpm installer, and use yum localinstall to do it.
Terminal say: /home/wade/Download/adobe-release-i386-1.0-1.noarch.rpm: does not update installed package.
I have already tried installing it, and it says it worked fine, but I'm still unable to view flash.
Did anybody tried installing the latest adobe flash named Square for amd64 systems? I was interested in knowing whether there is any improvement in the performance. I also want to know how to replace my existing 32 bit wrapper based flash on 64 bit browser and install this 64 bit flash.

Its a fresh install. All I have done so far is installed updates via Yum, including the updated kernel, installed RPM fusion and I installed my wireless drivers.
I have this weird problem. some of the apps like gnome-system-monitor, gnome-power-preferences, nm-applet(when clicked on edit connections) keep crashing.
the moment I log in into my gnome desktop, all the apps work fine for a minute. the problem starts after a while say 5 mins... I will not be able to run any of these apps. I always get the crash window.

Why is F-Spot always crashing on my computer?
I'm running Fedora 10 (2.6.25-7 kernel) with Gnome on a custom-built computer that has 2 gig of RAM and an Intel Pentium 4 2.4 gig CPU.
I noticed F-Spot and started playing around with it, importing and tagging pictures and the like. Problem is that after manipulating only one or two photos (rotating 90 degrees, that sort of thing, nothing major), F-Spot crashes itself. It doesn't crash my computer, just closes itself without warning.
This happened several times, so I ran System Manager at the same time so I could track CPU and memory usage while using F-Spot. I found that CPU usage spiked to 100 percent, but RAM and swap were never touched at all, notwithstanding the high CPU usage (RAM was a constant 289 meg used out of 2 Gig available, never changed. Swap was never touched).
No error messages or statements come up. Just the plug is pulled on F-Spot.
So, why is F-Spot crashing? Is this a known bug with Fedora 10? Would forcing the use of RAM help? If so, how?
fter I enable the desktop effects on KDE, everytime that I login in to a session,KDE crash.... Im just gettin a black screen.My question is. Can I turn off the desktop effects by editing a file? if so, which file do I need to edit.... and where is the extensive directory tree i can find a the file that holds information about kde crashing "error file or log file" were I can get more info in what is happening with KDE and find out why is crashing.

Every time I open empathy, I am seeing that message. The messenger itself doesn't have a problem (as far as I can see), but that message really bothers me.

This happened once every 2 weeks or so a couple of months ago...now it seems to happen 2-3 times every 24 hours.
I do not remember installing nvidia drivers. But I may have. How can I check this?
And more importantly, what things can I do to get to the bottom of why this keeps happening? It's just X crashing -- the system is not bricked. I can ssh in from another machine. But X is locked up so tightly even the mouse doesn't move.

The other night I ran an update, which after it was done said it required a reboot for libconsole to finish updating. I had some other things to do so I rebooted. When I came back and logged into GNOME with Compiz it took forever to load, when it did it loaded metacity instead of compiz. I tried starting it manually(with compiz, and compiz manager) but each time it starts all the window decorations come up but I can't interact with the desktop at all(I can move the mouse but thats it). The only way to make X responsive again is to go into another TTY and kill compiz. When I do that there is no debug information thats useful.

Running firefox with the "-safe" flag doesn't help nor did reinstalling firefox using "yum reinstall firefox". According to ABRT every crash is due to: "Process /usr/lib/firefox-3.6/firefox was killed by signal 11 (SIGSEGV)". When run from root in terminal via "sudo firefox" with and without "-safe" after crashing the message returned to terminal reads: "/usr/lib/firefox-3.6/run-mozilla.sh: line 131: 2*** Segmentation fault (core dumped) "$prog" ${1+"$@"}". The stars after 2 (I.e. "2***") are to indicate different numbers. On one run they were "2406" and on another "2538". Recently, in all instances firefox crashes right after attempting to navigate to a website (I've tried many - there is no correlation between what website I go to and if it crashes). Previously, when firefox was crashing less frequently, it occurred intermittently and wasn't correlated to any action I took.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have the xfce 4.6 desktop installed with Fedora 14 x64. First, I started having some problems, not sure if they are connected: the menu button on the panel somehow moved from the bottom left corner by itself, the window manager won't open, all windows (browser, programs, etc.) are cut off so that the strip with the minimize/maximize symbols up in the top-right corner is not visible, all windows open in top left-hand corner of screen and can't be moved, workspaces disappeared form the panel, unable to switch windows (have to close the window in focus to access another), typing in some applications (terminal, text editor) does nothing sometimes but works when I reopen them, etc.
.. After this had been going on for a while (few hours), I was changing the panel icons, and the bug report icon suddenly showed up and said that package gnome-1:0.8.1-10.git20100831.fc14 of the gnome network manager (xfce doesn't have it's own network manager?!) and the ibus keyboard layout switcher plugin had crashed. These don't seem to have anything to do with the troubles I'm having; the internet works fine. I have copies of the bug reports but I'm not sure if I should post them since the bug reporting tool warned me that they may contain sensitive information.
