Can't use Internet all of a sudden. Same IP address, Gateway, etc... as Windows.
Linux --> Can't use Internet
Windows --> Internet OK?!
The Gateway disappears on its own.
The IP address and everything else automatically resets to a blank and doesn't save my settings even though I clicked it to save. Restarting the computer doesn't help either.
Does any one have a way to speed up the internet on Fedora 12? I have a dual boot system with Vista x64 on the flip-side, and my wireless connection there is just fine. But when I get on this side, it goes back to the dial-up days (yes I said the DU word). yum updates seem to be just fine, and e-mail seems to be fine. just firefox is slow. And now that I put the x64 Flash in (thanks to leigh123linux), with that working too it seems even a little slower again.
View 3 Replies View RelatedLatest FC12 update included dhclient-4.1.1-9.fc12 which fails to configure eth0 after restarting the computer. Had to remove/downgrade to 4.1.0* (and reinstall dracut and NetworkManager(-glib)). There is no config file in /etc/dhcp/dhclient.d so I don't know how to reset dhcp/eth0 to connect. Thought some one smarter than me might have noticed this by now and worked out a solution. Can't tell that anything in Bugzilla sounds like my problem. Might only be x86_64 or KDE-4.4 problem as my 32-bit Gnome install is not affected. Easy enough to grab the rpms, just annoying. Still haven't learned how to keep a package at version x.x with Fedora yet but that's another topic.

I just install FC12 after all settings are done I install nvidia driver for PAE kernel whit the command # sudo yum install kmod-nvidia-PAE after reboot the system is not able to boot again.What I can do to uninstall the driver?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI upgraded from FC12 to FC14 and now the system/case fan blows full speed constantly. I also moved from i386-PAE to am64.
The CPUs are cool, the machine is basically idle, and the fan noise is really annoying (and blowing cool air).
In FC12 the fan would auto-adjust with CPU load. This is not the case now.
I ran sensors-detect and it doesn't seem to find my fans:

I don't remember ever having to even run sensors-detect in FC12. I searched the board for a bit and didn't see any solutions. I'll attach the full output from sensors-detect.
when ever i try to install updates i get shown an error & the updates stop the error i get says "librpmio.so.0 is needed by package abrt-1.0.3-1.fc12.i686 (updates) librpm.so.0 is needed by package abrt-1.0.3-1.fc12.i686 (updates)"

I acknowledged and an error was generated gcc-4.4.2-7.fc12.i686 requires libgomp = 4.4.2-7.fc12 I try to install libgomp and go round again.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a number of systems with Fedora on them, they are connected to a network but are not allowed to connect to the internet. So I am trying to find a solution to patch these systems in a simple way.My solution which i thought of, however, still having a problem with is as follows:
1- Download the files from the "repodata" (e.g. for "update" repository) using a machine that is connected to the internet.
2- Copy these files(e.g. using flash drive) to one on of these Fedora systems into the /var/cache/yum/i386/12/updates (or /var/cache/yum/updates for older versions).
3- Run "yum -C check-update" (-C so it will not try to update and will use the local files). (I am having a problem at this step and I get this message "no such table: packages", the solution that i found on the internet suggested cleaning the cache which is not what i want to do!).
4- After getting the list of needed files I will parse the primary.xml.gz file and grab the actual file names then append the base URL to them and save it into a file.
5- take that file to the online machine and run wget to grab all needed patches.
6- Take the files back to the system and put them in (i think /var/cache/yum/i386/12/updates/packages/) and run "yum -C update" However, now i am having a problem with step 3 and also not sure if step 6 is correct.
So does any of you guys know how to solve this, or if there is a better or easier way to do this??* Keep in mind that those machines are not allowed to connect to the internet or even connect to another machine that is connected, but we still need to patch them and keep them secure.
I am using fedora 8. I want to upgrade my system but I don't have internet connectivity I cannot use yum can any body tell me from which site I can get all the rpm packages specially gcc, glibc so that I can take them in my pen drive and install in my f8.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am having a problem reconnecting to the internet when I put my computer in suspend or hibernate. For some reason when I put my computer in any one of these modes it disconnects from the internet, and I have no way of getting back on the internet after that. I use to have the option of "Enable Networking" on my top panel, but it seems to have disappeared for some reason. Is there any way to stay permanately connected to the internet, even when it is in hibernate mode, or could someone tell me how to get the enable networking icon back?
View 14 Replies View RelatedI am coming from Windows XP Pro, on the same machine (and where I am writing this post from) so the internet clearly works on XP. On F13, the eth0 connection is activated and the drivers for the NIC chip were installed with the OS. The NIC is Intel Pro/100 VE. The problem that occurs is that the system updater (in GNOME) can access the internet, and installed a bunch of updates after installing the OS. I know it can get to the internet because the updates worked and in the System Monitor, I can see both uploading and downloading occurring during the updates. Now the problem is that when I open FF, I can't seem to get to pages, and I get the usual FF error (pic -- [URL]). However, I CAN get to [URL] as well as [URL] , but I cannot access several other subdomains on fedoraproject.org . I also cannot get to any other page online, ([URL] for example).

View 7 Replies View RelatedI saw that AMZ recently updated the rpm for Fedora to be compatible with FC 11, however the install is still broken on FC12 (obviously since it's built for 11).
My main question is has anyone found a decent workaround, that won't completely hose your system? Should I just wait until they build an rpm for FC12?
Not wanting to speculate why, in the repositories, Fedora doesn't *also* provide a on-KVM enabled kernel counterpart to the default KVM enabled kernel that *is* supplied, I must say I'm frustrated that they haven't done this simple thing.
Considering that everyone who upgrades to KVM enabled FC12 from a previous non-KVM release of Fedora (like FC10) ... considering that these people will be guaranteed to no
longer be able to run VirtualBox or VMWare Workstation after upgrading, is a disappointing oversight by / or intent of Fedora (one that manifests in *lost productivity*).
And try though you may to install the kernel source RPM and compile it after running "make xconfig" to disable KVM support, you usually can't! Fedora kernel compile attempts often die very early in the "make" process, indicating something like ...
"Kernel compile error: No rule to make target `missing-syscalls'
or some other silliness. And when you successfully compile a "kernel.org" kernel, and try to boot it, you get all kinds of missing library errors (etc).
Given that it would be simple to provide both a KVM enabled kernel (as they do), and also a non-KVM enabled kernel (which they don't) so the rest of us can seamlessly continue to run VirtualBox and/or VMWare Workstation after an upgrade - and avoid getting entangled with deciding whether use KVM or XEN for guest O/S's... it's a frustrating misstep to not have done this basic thing (i.e. include a non-KVM kernel). It was a rude awakening when we tried to launch VirtualBox only to have it fail after the upgrade.
Anyway, has anyone successfully compiled their own kernel for FC12 and not get errors after boot? If so, which sources did you use; and what kernel version? In the meantime I'll try out other kernels and compile options.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI recently upgraded my CPU (just before the release of FC12), to a 64-bit compatible Intel Core 2 E7600. Upon the release of FC12 I moved to the 64 bit version (via a clean install).
I noticed that NVIDIA does not work (as many topics on this forum confirm). So I reinstalled and used the FC12 default drivers (I think they are called Nouveau-drivers). This seemed to work, so I ran "yum update", and now all X-windows fail.
KDE complaints: "kstartup4 does not exist or fails" and GNOME also complains (sorry forgot the exact error message)
I'd be happy to send logs, but if these are required, which log you want and where I can find it.
how to get or KDE or GNOME running ? (preferably KDE)

The reason for this was that since FC7 I've moved to Debian Etch and then to Ubuntu, but now I'm back trying FC12 amd64 on my machine and seen how it changed.Almost everything is going well until now. After almost two years I see that a great development was made to build and gui to yum, but synaptic is still superior, imho.
Well, as I said, everything is going well with one exception: the *.tar.gz files.
Doesn't matter if I use the gui or the cli. If I try to compress or decompress any file to tar.gz it fails with the error message bellow. All other file types work perfectly.

I have just installed fc12, and everything seemed to go well. After reboot I get a line asking for First login:From what I've found, this should be the firstboot thing, but I don't know the login, and can't find any answer with a search.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI installed Fedora Core 12 on a Dell Latitude 610 laptop. Networking isn't working. I tried to start networking with '/etc/rc.d/init.d network start': there were no errors or warning messages, but before and afterwards, I could not ping anything.
I tried to configure and start networking with system-config-network. The ethernet network card shows up, but the activate button is greyed out.
I can ping the loopback address 127.0.0.1 after I start networking with '/etc/rc.d/init.d network start' but I don't really know what that means.
lspci tells me that my network "card" is a "NexXtreme BCM5751 Gigabit Ethernet PCI Express".
I know the eternt cable is good because I used it on another machine.
I have been unable to burn CD's / DVD's while logged into FC12 with a full GDM session or with just the Gnome Greeter running. If I drop to single user mode and use wodim I can burn w/o issue.

I've looked at a couple of threads on this subject but can't cure my Pb. I have a floppy drive that I rarely use. Last time was on an earlier version of FC without problems.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have 2 Fedora 12 installs with this problem. Before installing FC 12, xset led 3 worked fine.
The command:
SHOULD turn on the scroll lock LED.
With FC 12, it doesn't.
In Xorg.log, I see: (WW) AllowEmptyInput is on, devices using drivers 'kbd', 'mouse' or 'vmmouse' will be disabled.
(I believe before FC12, I was using driver "kbd".) The man page for kbd shows the options needed for program control of the LEDs.
The new driver appears to be "evdev". I've read some of the HAL documentation and I think this driver uses the file: /usr/share/hal/fdi/policy/10osvendor/10-leds.fdi
I see nothing about program control in this file.
Anyway, anyone have any idea why xset led stopped working and how to go about fixing it?
