Fedora :: F13 - Tell New "PolicyKitOne" That Should Be Able To Scale CPU Frequency Without Admin Auth?

May 28, 2010

Just installed Fedora 13. How do I tell the new "PolicyKitOne" that I should be able to scale my CPU frequency without admin auth? In F12, there was a tool called polkit-auth, but it no longer exists. In fact, when I type in "polkit" and hit tab, nothing shows in the completion menu. Where's this thing hiding?

I login as normal user. I can 'su root' fine - password authenticates. However, If I try to run System->Administration->Users/Groups, when it asks for root password, it is rejected. When I run updater, it reports failure to authenticate, but doesn't even ask for root password beforehand. Is there a cached password someplace?

Red Hat / Fedora :: WPA Will Only Auth Once / Right After Password Change On Router

Sep 1, 2010

I recently installed Fedora 13, Xfce, on my HP netbook. It's using AR9285. When i try to connect to my network with WPA enabled it will not work despite the password info being correct. I'm using a DI-514 router, with no updates to firmware. It only works, if I change the password, then use said password, then, when I disconnect, said password no longer works. WEP works just fine, open network works fine, why wont WPA-PSK work?

General :: Wireless Disconnects And Cant Re-auth On Fedora 13 X64?

Jun 24, 2010

I'm currently using Fedora 13 x64 and have noticed a strange problem with my wireless.

At random intervals it will disconnect, be it 5 minutes or 3 hours and then it will not re-auth no matter how long I leave it. The wireless is running WPA/WPA2, With TKIP/AES encryption. The router only supports b/g and the Wireless NIC is only b/g.

Not sure what driver/software it is using. I noticed I do have wpa_supplicant installed but there doesnt seems to be much happening in /etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.conf apart from the below.

Code:
[daniel@Enterprise ~]$ su -c 'cat /etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.conf'

Fedora Servers :: Force Php Mail() Through Postfix + Auth?

Mar 8, 2011

I'm a bit lost with the PHP/Sendmail configuration, maybe somebody could help me getting back on the right track. Following situation:

Postfix:

* accepts smtp on port 25 but from his own domains. Some policy and spamchecks through amavisd are made.

* accepts submission on port 587 and 465 from authenticated users only. Quota and spamchecks prevent outgoing spam.

So I'm enforcing a very strong outgoing spam-policy but the users are still able to use the php mail() function to send spam through the /usr/sbin/sendmail command.
My users have access to their own php.ini so my idea was to somehow enforce the delivery through the local postfix on port 587 or 465 and just let them enter their user/pass in their php.ini. (I suppose, their might be a cleaner-solution ).

Unfortunately, my configurations like smtp_host, port, user etc. are getting ignored if the sendmail_path line is active. But if I comment this line out, php just uses the default, which is the same as configured in the sendmail_path line - so it's active whether i use the line or not (setting it to an invalid command breaks the mail() function completely).

how can I enforce my anti-spam policy on the php mail() command? For my ssh users I just blocked the outgoing connection to localhost on port 25 which seems to work so far, but somehow the postfix-sendmail-wrapper just ignores this.

Fedora :: 13 - CPU Not Scaling Frequency?

Jun 16, 2010

I am not entirely convinced that my CPU is actually changing frequency as it is meant to. It sometimes changes frequency, but most of the time it is stuck on 800MHz even when doing cpu intensive tasks. Here is information that may or may not be of help:

cat /proc/cpuinfo
processor: 0
vendor_id: GenuineIntel

[code]....

I notice here that it says between 800 and 800, but does that mean it is currently at 800, or can only be 800.

Fedora Hardware :: 13: CPU Stuck At Minimum Frequency?

Jun 9, 2010

My Notebook CPU has variable speeds from 600MHz to 1.6GHz but since I upgraded to F13 it has not budged from 600MHz.I have already installed the gnome CPU speed widget and even if I set it to "performance" or "1.6GHz" it stays resolutely on 600MHz

The only indication that I can see that there is something odd is the output of acpitool tells me the min/max cpu speeds are 600MHz/600MHz. I don't know enough about the guts of Linux to know if acpitool is defective or if it's just repeating what it was told by something lower down.I will post some hopefully useful listings of some commands run under Fedora 13 and then the same commands on the same box with an F12 live USB.

Code:

Fedora 13
$ acpitool -c
CPU type : Intel(R) Pentium(R) M processor 1.60GHz

Fedora X86/64bit :: Powernow-k8 And Incorrect Pstate 0 Frequency

May 1, 2011

If I boot my system with default BIOS settings (no overclocking), the CPU runs at 3.3GHz and powernow-k8 enables a maximum speed of 3.3GHz, as can be seen from the following:

[Code]....

Clearly, for some reason, powernow-k8 is mis-calculating the pstate 0 or maximum speed and this is reflected in the files within /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu?/cpufreq/ I have tried to update /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_max_freq, however despite the file being writeable by root, the change is not maintained. Other than setting the CPU policy to "Performance" rather than "On Demand", is there any way I can force the correct pstate 0 (maximum) CPU speed?

Should I change it in windows? Which frequency do I have to use?

Fedora Hardware :: Athlon X2 CPU Frequency: Wikipedia Versus Cupinfo

Jan 24, 2010

The Wikipedia says that the frequency of the Athlon 64 X2 3800+ is 2000 MHz.

For that processor, on FC 12 64 bit
cat /proc/cpuinfo
shows:
cpu MHz : 1000.000
for each processor.

Is that supposed to "add up" to 2000 MHz for both? My old GA-K8N-Ultra SLI motherboard has its BIOS set for "top performance", so I hesitate increase any clock speed or multiplier.

Fedora Networking :: Iwconfig And Iwlist - What Frequency A Wireless Interface Is Using

Nov 10, 2010

I have just upgraded my system to Fedora 14. One thing I noticed after running some applications on it is that it is not possible anymore to figure out on what frequency a wireless interface is using. If I set a wireless interface to monitor mode and perform the iwconfig or iwlist command, in the past, I could see the frequency used on the interface, but now, this information is not present anymore. My wireless interfaces are in monitor mode.

Has the frequency information been removed from iwconfig or iwlist commands? If it has, is there another way to report this information?

Here is an output from iwconfig on my system:

Fedora :: Transferring Files From Another *nix Os Onto Fedora Yields Admin Lock On Random Ones?

What is the easiest way to make it so that these transferred files will not be completely locked out and require me to go and change them one by one sohat i can access them without having to go root. Also the "apply to all subfolders and files" doesn't work. Also trying to set the SELinux rule to "userspace" doesn't do anything else. Basically i was trying to do just that transfer my $home folder over to fedora but now it's being a bit odd towards me with making everything require root access and not letting me read/write all files and folders within them.

Fedora :: DokuWiki: Unable To Admin

Apr 1, 2011

I'm trying to get DokuWiki running on Fedora 14 and Apache 2, but I run into some problem which was appearently described earlier [URL]

and seems to have gone unsolved in those threads.

I have Apache 2 running (which I can see by surfing to "localhost") and I have DokuWiki callable (which I can see by surfing to "localhost/dokuwiki").

Also, I adjusted the SELINUX context as described by [URL]

Since the DokuWiki installation is totally fresh, I should now either be able to call "localhost/dokuwiki/install.php" to do further adjustments or to call some admin.php by URL or using some button on the local DokuWiki start page.

However, none of the admin scripts is callable by URL, and there's no admin button shown on the DokuWiki start page.

I tried to log into the new account but got a dead account. Nothing came up, and it didn't allow anything, complaining about "can't create Nautilus," and other such error messages.

Tried to go into the Constantine login screen and put in "root" and the original password. "Invalid Use..." Tried "root" with the new pass. "Invalid..." So what can I do at this point to get in and create a nice, clean, new account (with admin privs) for the new user?!
