I've installed audacity, and have the LAME plugin installed. Problem is, I can't import mp3 files into audacity, I keep getting:
"This version of audacity is not compiled with mp3 support"
DO I need to do anything to get audacity to import mp3s ? The preferences only had an area for encoder (i.e. export) nothing for import.
Background: I'm digitizing an old record. I used Sound Recorder to make FLACs of each side of the LP, and now I need to edit them down to individual tracks. I'm using the development version of Ubuntu 10.04.
Problem: Audacity ignores these FLAC files when I attempt to import or open them.
The FLAC files play if I hover the mouse over them in GNOME.
Audacity gladly imports FLAC files I ripped from CD last year (using Sound Juicer I think).
But when I try to do the same for my recorded FLAC files, nothing happens. I tried running audacity in a terminal window, and there is no additional output when I attempt the import. This comes out when I start it:

Looking at the file properties, they're basically the same except the Juicer-generated file has values filled in for title, artist, album, year. They are all FLAC Stereo 44100 Hz. I thought it might be a file-size problem, so I made a 5-second test with Sound Recorder, and that also refuses to import.
So, why do only the ripped files work with Audacity?
I am trying to record in Audacity in Ubuntu 8.10 64 bit on a Dell Studio 1535 laptop.The problem is not that its not recording, per se.Rather, the problem is its not recording the way that I want it to.
Its recording from the built-in mic, and I want to use the mic jack instead as a line in from a guitar (well, technically, an acoustic-electric resonator, but its close enough to a guitar to call it a guitar).
I have tried using various devices for recording, and changing settings in both the Volume Control and Sound Preferences, but no matter what I do, Audacity still records from my built-in microphones, instead of from the line-in.
after I had to rebuild the rpmdb because of some errors within it, i can't import any gpg-keys with the command "rpm --import". All I get is this:

An Audacity build for Fedora 9 that has MP3 import and FFMpeg support built-in?
The one provided in Fedora-suggested repositories (audacity.i386 0:1.3.7-0.4.beta.fc9.2) is useless - has none of the above. One can't import MP3, WAV, OGG,... - nothing. The only option is to record and export to MP3 (with Lame).
To be honest, I can't understand why people are supplying such builds.
I understand it's quicker to build it from soruces in my case, but if anyone cares to replace the mentioned version with actually useful one, it could be a good deed.
I am trying to use FC12 to edit multimedia projects for my work.
Right now I just want to edit some audio in Audacity.
I switched back to Linux after a few years, because it usually is "better" than Windows.
I cannot get any sound. I installed ALSA removed and reinstalled PulseAudio and everything else I could find in a forum, to no avail.
Linux tells me my sound card is: 00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) HD Audio Controller (rev 02)
I used to be able to play MP3s but that went away in the process of all this.
Is there one solution I am missing, or do I have to change everything around depending on what I am doing?
I would like to use Linux for this but deadlines might make me go back to the dark side....
I'm running Fedora 15 XFCE spin, Audacity 1.3.13-beta and my sound is ALSA/Pulseaudio (I'm not totally sure what these are anyway, are they drivers?) Anyway, when I'm in Audacity and I go to the record options I can choose from default, pulse, and HDA ATI SB:ALC268 Analog (hw:0,0). If I try any of these three options and press record I get static. Here's a screenshot of what it looks like to press record for each of the three options in order.

The last option won't even record nothing, it just doesn't work. Also, if you look where the little picture of the microphone is, the option to drag the input volume is greyed out.
as audacity comes without MP3 support I tried to compile audacity for Fedora 13 myself. The compilation works fine (configure/make/make install) but there is no sound system to choose at preferences/devives/host.
Does anyone ahve an idea what went wrong with compilation or where I can finde rpm files including MP3 support?
Is it possible to import an xorg.conf file from Debian to Fedora and have it work? The reason for this is that I have an older monitor that only offers 800x600 as the maximum resolution.

I'm running GNOME on Fedora 11. My daughter is shortly due to take possession of a digital SLR camera - a Canon EOS 400D. Apparently it comes with a USB cable. I know very little of photography, or of image stuff on Linux, so I have a few questions: Will I be able to connect it to my Linux box and import the images? Is gthumb-importer the appropriate application for this? Is there better? Are the images jpegs, or something else? I only need to copy the images to the laptop and to be able to view them - I don't need to edit them or any such.

2 : debmirror package is not installed, it will be required to manage debian deployments and repositories
Restart cobblerd and then run 'cobbler sync' to apply changes. The listed ports are open in iptables, and I do not need to manage a debian deployment.
Just trying my first live upgrade but hit an issue with not being able to import the GPG key for FC14:

View 8 Replies View RelatedI've installed Fedora 13 and would like to find a way to import my pidgin accounts, data, and logs into empathy. The Empathy FAQ doesn't mention this, there's nothing in the Empathy help about it, and I've gone through every menu looking for anything like an "import" option and come up empty. I tried asking on irc.gimp.org#empathy but got no response there. I'm guessing that means there's no built-in upgrade path. But maybe somebody has a script that will do it? Or worst case, maybe someone could point me to instructions on how to manually convert the data?

I have been modeling on Tremulous on and off, but I have been having a recurring problem with vert counts that I have decided to address. I had planned to add plugin scripts to blender that will let me import/export md3 files. I was able to download the plugins in a zip file and I know where the blender scripts are located, but this is where I'm having problems. When I try to move the extracted plugins into the folder, I get a warning about me not having permission. I know I can get around the problem by using my root login command. What I don't know the command I need to use to move the plugins where they need to go.

1st: I tried to just use gThumb but some of the images wouldn't render after import. - Also at this point, I selected for Fedora to automatically open gThumb Import when I enter the SD Card. Now I can't figure out how to stop it from doing that. If anyone could answer this too, i would be very grateful
2nd: I tried f-spot but it also wouldn't render some of the images after import and I don't like that it orders the photos by day and doesn't let you manage it yourself. Correct me if I'm wrong with this.
Now: I loved Picasa on Windows so I loaded the Picasa 3.0 RPM. I had an apparently common problem with the Wine preloader being blocked by SELinux. I followed the SELinux recommendation to lift the restriction. I realize its not as safe but I thought if I could get Picasa to work I could live with it. But I can't seem to import from Picasa either! When I start an import from Picasa it gets about 20 pictures though and then stops with the following error:

(11) And also the gThumb import window opens... actually as I'm writing this, it probably is the auto action i set up earlier that's throwing it off. That would probably make the "source unavailable" like the error implies.
I would like to remove the auto load behavior i set up when entering an sd card. If anyone has any other ideas why I can't view all of the images in the other programs i'd like to give them a fair evaluation also. A few of them render ok, but most of them just show a broken image link.
I'm very slow with Linux, so I will probably ask for clarification. I'm running Fedora 14 on an HP mini-notebook. I recently bought a Nikon Coolpix L120. I am having trouble importing photographs from my camera onto the computer. I've tried several different programs, and I have F-Spot and digiKam.
In digiKam, it auto-detects my camera, but I get this message when I attempt to import pictures:Failed to connect to the camera. Please make sure it is connected properly and turned on. Would you like to try again?
I've seen this problem before on different forums, but I couldn't find any solutions that I understand. Do I have to mess with permissions? I don't know what this means, and I could use some help.
F-spot doesn't even detect my camera. I read that F-spot requires gphoto libraries that would have something for my device. Unfortunately, on this list my camera isn't listed. The Nikon Coolpix L120 connects via USB cable.
When I tried to install LibreOffice 3.3_64 on my Fedora14_64 I received the following error:

View 9 Replies View RelatedIm on XP and am trying to get a 9 min piece of music from a cassette on my music centre into audacity on my comp got the line from earphone socket into the blue socket at back of comp (there are 3 sockets in a line then 3 more below them in a line go the line in socket... blue top left. )
Im getting sound ok on the comp with radio, its playing vids etc well so I cant think anything is wrong with the sound card. Playing the cassette on my music centre should get the sound into the comp and into the comp speakers.... but I just cant get a peep
Can't export an mp3 file from Audacity because it can't find libmp3lame.so. I have:- clicked the Audacity Download button on the error window- installed lame using Synaptic- installed lame, liblame0, liblame-dev and libmp3lame0 using apt-getall as per various forum suggestions. Still can't find anything like libmp3lame.so or .so.0 on my (8.04) system.
View 3 Replies View Relatedi can't record with my mic anymore. I went to do so in audacity and i only get the noise it hears through the headphones. I am recording a second vocal track. The first track is the music. I looked at the alsamixer and the mic was originally muted and i unmuted. Should line be muted when i am using the mic? I also tried to record with the mic in sound recorder but got nothing there either.
