Fedora :: Booting - Goes Back To The Install Options Page
Apr 12, 2010
Installed Fedora 12 from a DVD on clean HD. When I rebooted after the install it bought me back to the install options page. If I remove DVD it asks to put it back in so it can boot but it goes back to the install options page. What should I check or do?
wanted to know if i can execute commands on linux console through a web page and redirect it back to my web page !For example :if i send a query "ls"it should execute this command on my linux console and also redirect the list of the files to the web page from which i give the command !
I know that 'man gfortran' will get me the manual page for gfortran, but how do I lookup only the bit I want, which is '-Wall'? I can't find anything in the manual page for man.I could use 'man gfortran | grep -Wall' but that would return just a single line and not the whole paragraph.
I've installed some updates for Fedora 12 x64 and now I don't get the desktop, but a flashing cursor and no boot. After forcing a reboot it says something like "interrupting smolt update" and then shuts down. How do I get back to proper booting/desktop?
I already have Ubuntu 10.041 and windows xp installed as dual-boot.I am installing another version of Ubuntu in a logical partition. On the last page of the live install guide, there are advanced options. There is a check box next to install boot loader.I already have boot loader from previous Ubuntu installation, correct? What were to happen if I un-check this box?The reason I ask is there were grub updates from previous Ubuntu install.
Whilst in fedora i deleted files off my second hard drive to free up some space, i deleted over 10gb worth of data. When booting back in to my windows partition it doesnt recognize the free space instead it thinks the hard drive is still full even though i deleted the data. Not to sure as to why this has happened, as im sure i have deleted stuff of this hard drive before from my linux partition.Any help would be greatly appreciated as my 70gb hard drive is full with only 20gb of data to show for it
I am running OpenSuSE 11.0 KDE 3.5.9 "release 49.1" with Kivio 1.6.3. I am using Kivio to create large flow charts (paper size is 44in x36in) and I have an HP DesignJet 800PS that is capable of printing documents this size. We handle blue prints occasionally as well as when I have large documents (size wise) to print.
Anyhow I have a table relationship drawing I have created and I need to print it out. Now I have come up with a work around (save the document as PNG, import it into OpenOffice then save as PDF and print...) but when I try to print as PDF, I get the default paper size of A4 and the option to change the paper size is ghosted in Kivio. Also I only get a small segment of the actual drawing.
I've been using ubuntu on my PC for a few months now. Really love it, so decided to install it on my wife's PC too (she, also, loves it!). Only problem is that (and I've tried reinstalling it twice now) the browsers on her PC keep going "back a page" after a few seconds of bringing up any web page. We used the WUBI installer to install the OS. Weird thing is that this happens in both firefox and chromium (I thought it was a firefox bug at first but as it's happening in both browsers I'm thinking it's something else). I am a total Ubuntu newbie myself too, but I love the OS and really want to find a way to work on this other PC.
Cannot paste URL When I middle-paste into the URL box in the Hyperlink toolbar, nothing happens. Misleading support link The support link in Help/Support shows the general Novell support page. It is not clear how to get support for OpenOffice from there (especially for openSuSE). Hyperlink toolbar button performs no action In order to place a hyperlink at the cursor, you have to click the pull-down menu by the hyperlink button on the toolbar. Clicking on the button has no effect.
I think it should be equivalent to inserting the hyperlink as text. Persistent extending hyperlink mode When you place the insertion point immediately following a hyperlink and start typing, the hyperlink text extends; there is no way to cancel that effect. In particular, in the situation when a new document contains only a hyperlink, everything you type, either in front or at the end, becomes a part of it. The only way out of this situtation is to clear the hyperlink text and press Enter; the hyperlink is then replaced with an explicit URL and you can type further without extending the hyperlink.
No apply on Close There is another undocumented button in the Standard Toolbar that opens the Hyperlink dialog box. This box behaves in a very peculiar way: when you click on the button [Close], the box closes without updating anything. In order to apply the changes you have to press [Apply] and only then [Close]. This is rather surprising (at least for me), although it is better understandable when you consider that the Hyperlink dialog box is modeless. Travelling paste Steps to reproduce:
1. Edit a long document (containing several pages). 2. Mark some text on Page 1. 3. Middle-paste the text on Page 3.
Ubuntu's keyserver page just brings back a default it works page. Is there a way to manually search or enter keys here, since this page seems to not have been completed? Doesn't look like this page will be completed either last edit date on this page is Tue 06 Oct 2009 05:49:36 AM CDT
i have a pc having OS Windows XP and Windows 7 installed (hd0,0 and hd0,1). Yesterday i installed Debian 6(hd0,5). But it doesn't show boot menu on startup. It automatically load GRUB and start loading Debian. While i m on GNOME or KDE i can see all the files of windows XP n 7. Is any way to rescue and boot with Windows??? And yah one more thing ... i also dont have menu.lst file in /boot/grub/.
I am an absolute beginner and have been trying to run Ubuntu 11.04 directly from a sandisk cruzerblade 8 gb. I followed instructions on the Ubuntu site and installed the 11.04 iso on the drive using Uiversal USB installer with Persistence.
PROBLEM-When i reboot, the options screen of UBUNTU shows up and when i choose the first option-"RUN UBUNTU FROM USB" dont remember exact wording. but the problem is nothing happens after that and i am back with the same screen no matter how many times i try.
When I try to install Ubuntu OS everything works well to the last step. At last step it ask me for my user name while it is installing the OS at background. Then it says "ready" but nothing change. I can move mouse over the screen but there is nothing to push like "finish installation button" or something like that. I wait for 2 hours and nothing changed. There is no error code. Then I decide to reset Pc and try to see if it installed grub or not, but there is no grub at booting page. I started to OS installation again and same problem occur for 6 trials. I have intel i3 proccessor with graph card and gigabyte h57m-usb3 motherboard. OS: Ubuntu 10.10.
I use firefox3.6.x, and i play online video (sockwave flash) often, but while opening the page (often has swf), the whole X restart, and back to login window of gdm. The problem not accured everytime i open the page, but very often. I met this problem both in ubuntu 9.10 and 10.04, and also lubuntu 10.04. So, i fall back to use firefox 3.5.9, and evrything seems fine.
I did search for this but could not easily find the answer I wanted. When I use update manager in 10.04 to upgrade to 10.10 I get an error that there is not enough free disk space. It seems the upgrade uses 19.9M and I only have 16M free from the 100M on my /boot. I am not sure if it is related but I have dual boot. And when rebooting, I have a lot more than just boot into windows or boot into ubuntu. The list shows something live five different linux boot options (ten if you count the recovery modes). It seems that there are five different 2.6.32 - xx - generic options. Are these taking up space and how do I remove the unneeded ones?If I should repartition /boot how big should I make it so this does not occur the next time? Here is the output from df -h
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on /dev/sda7 9.7G 3.2G 6.0G 35% / none 1002M 312K 1002M 1% /dev
On FC11 64 bit with Adobe flash plugin for Linux installed, I see segfault errors from "npviewer" in /var/log/messages. The only browser I have tried yet, Firefox, has glitches every now and then. Sometimes it shows the title of a page in a tab, but the page is blank. This can even happen when I try the Google main page. Is it true that npviewer has something to do with Adobe flash? Is there a way to fix the problem? If it is caused by Adobe flash, is there a different plugin that will replace Adobe flash player?
I have apache httpd server on my Fedora 10I got 2 problems:First : I copied the web page files to its Document Root <var/www/html> & Disabled the default web page. But when I visit http:/localhost ,it shows up the list of files in <var/www/html> as if a ftp server browsed in web page. So how can I set http://localhost load my default web page index.html ?Second :I want to set up a web server on Internet through my router . I applied for DDNS account & input it into router correctly . I set virtual host in server to redirect any access from port 80 to 192.168.1.2:80 in LAN . Just for in case , I also download and running the DDNS software & installed it on PC 192.168.1.2 in LAN . My DDNS provider is oray.cn . It's a Chinese server provider . I don't think there is anything wrong with oray.cn . But if you need its information just visit oray.cn (Google can translate it for you). So I want to know did I miss something to set up a web server in this kind of situation
when booting up the system it promts for user and pass. After entering username and password followed by enter the system looks like its going to start. But no, it loads a white page for a couple of seconds and then go back to the section where you enter username & password. Why? the user and pass was correct. If i hit ctrl + alt +f1 and use the same username and password i can login with the CLI. But not in the graphical login prompt. How does such a problem gets fixed?
Has anyone EVER been able to run this particular command? Well I seriously need to run it for the gdm installation on my system. How to specifying the the url to get that package_file? I installed this system from the fc8 live cd -- are the files I need on that disk?
i have noticed that if vista is not the active partition, hybernate does not work. it just goes black and then back to the user icon screen to log back in. another "slight" problem was that i was not able to apply a service pack. after restoring vistas dominance i was able to install the pack. is there any other work arounds for hybernate? even though you might not be interested in cleaning up after microsoft.
I have a Canoscan LiDE 30 scanner which works fine in Linux. I haven't used it in months, and never since moving from Jaunty x86_64 to Fedora 11 x86_64. This evening I suddenly need to scan two pages to send to someone via e-mail, and the recipient is desperate to receive them. Naturally, Xsane has decided this is the moment to screw me.
The problem: I cannot figure out how to tell Xsane that the page size is 8.5 11. It insists on scanning only the left side, 3.99 x 11. I cannot find a page size anywhere in any of the buttons.
In Preview I once got it to scan the entire page, but could not figure out how to save the image to file. Subsequently I have not been able to figure out how I did it. In any event, scanning from the small main window always scans 3.99 x 11. Adjusting the scan area manually in the Preview window allows me to change the size area in the small main window to 8.5 x 11, but when I then scan from the small main window it reverts to 3.99 x 11.
I have scanned the document a hundred times at least, each time trying different buttons, but nothing has succeeded in getting the full page.
I have a mini ITX computer that runs a software that I have been trying to clone to another hard drive as back up. When I do clone it, it is the exact same copy down to every byte. When I try to boot from the cloned hard drive, it starts booting, then displays some text:
Then is says some of the files are not found including a encryption signer key not found.
I do no know the next step I need to take. Is this becasue it is running off a different hard drive? I do not understand a bzImage too well, but does it have anything to do with that file?
Ubuntu 10.04, xsane 0.996, Brother MFC 240c scanner.I just finished writing a long dissertation on my problem with this scanning environment (which I will spare you). In a nutshell the resulting image, when printed, is smaller than the original document. In writing my dissertation for this post I determined that the cause of the issue is that xsane believes I am scanning an 8.5 x 14 inch document when I am in fact scanning an 8.5 x 11 letter. So the question is... can I change the size to 8.5 x 11? and if so, how? I have not found anything in the xsane Preferences.
I intended to upgrade to fedora 15 but my old laptop only has 512mb so I have to stick with 14 (which is good anyway). I did this at the command line on the way the upgrade:
I have a problem with fresh installation of Fedora 14. I've installed it from LiveCD, everything worked fine, but after installing security updates, Fedora stoped working. I mean, not immediately, but right after rebooting. Firstly, I got 1 more option to choose in Grub (which system).
This was also in Ubuntu, so I choosed the first option,- Fedora stopped booting right before the end. Also the second option didn't boot, and now I have to use this ugly Vista
I don't know what to do, reinstalling whole system won't be a problem, but what if it repeats?
It's Fedora 14 using GNOME with i686 architecture.
