My local library (you know, the place where they loan you books) started to supply books digitally.
Unfortunately, they only support "Adobe Digital Editions", which again only is supported in Win/Mac
I googled it, and I can see that somebody made it work in "Wine", so I would like to do the same thing.
I installed Wine now (yum install wine) and I got the executable Windows file here: [URL].. how can I proceed further?
I am using Mandriva 2010.2.I installed Adobe Digital Editions using Wine and the install went fine. I can run adobe digital, and i can download books from my public library (download.maine.infonet.org) and they will open in Adobe Digital Editions. My problem is this: I have registered my copy with Adobe but I want to transfer these to my PanDigital Novel (white) and the device doesn't show up in Adobe Dig Editions. It does show up in Dolphin and I can browse the device. But I want to drag a book from Adobe Dig onto the PanDigital device. I am guessing it might be something to do with the way Wine recognizes devices - but being a bit of a newb i could be way off base. I checked winehq and it appears that Dig Editions 1.7 (version i am using) has silver or gold support.

I've tried several times, always the same result. And it happens even with no other programs running under wine.
When using Linux, like Fedora or Ubuntu, can WINE run Abobe Dreamweaver or Microsoft Expression or is there a program in Linux that has a similar user interface to Adobe or Microsoft? Further, does Amaya or Netbeans have free tutorials, or books or e-books? I need to adjust a Flash template, but things are going wrong with free trials of each, and I am concerned that if I buy the CDs that I may waste my money, as much as $600. I think WINE may run them, but Microsoft need net framework 4.0 and Silverlight, then the trial of Expression lasts 30 days.

I want to use Linux OS (server or desktop editions) as Internet Gateway, I have less than 50 hosts (internet users) on my network, and I simply want to know what is the most convenient linuxs distro for me to work with as a beginner to install, configure and administrating a linux OS(working as an Internet Gateway).
Its a simple network, 50 users connected to a switch, the switch to a server (where I will run the linux OS), the server to a cisco router, the router to the internet line. (Any tips on what do I need to be able to configure firewall rules and user activity monitoring like I am used to do with ISA on windows server 2003).
I am new to fedora and installed wine to see if I could get the sony reader software working (required to access sony bookstore from my sony ereader). Well the program did not work though it did create icons on my desktop. wine kept crashing and I said lets just get rid of it. I uninstalled wine via yum remove and nothing appeared to happen so I did rpm -qa |grep wine and saw lots of stuff. So I simply did yum remove wine* and then a rpm -qa |grep wine was empty. however wine is still under applications on my desktop and still has a category for programs--reader. I should also mention that while wine was installed I attempted to remove the reader via the wine uninstalller but a) wine gave a message of a core crash and b) all the uninstaller did was give me the option to reinstall the reader program. so now when I attempt to open an epub it tries with the sony reader software. I know I can just right click to use another program but for now I want wine gone completely from my pc and the sony program gone.

I realized there's a way to install it from a Debian package as opposed to Adobe's binary (and be able to keep up better with security updates), so I want to remove Adobe's version and install the Debian package. What's the right way to uninstall Reader when it was installed this way?

I know very little of photography, or of image stuff on Linux, so I have a few questions: Will I be able to connect it to my Linux box and import the images? Is gthumb-importer the appropriate application for this? Is there better? Are the images jpegs, or something else? The site I buy computer parts from have discounts on Western digital caviar green 2TB drive, but read that it doesn't work good with Linux? Made a search here and seems to be some workaround to get it to perform better, but mostly people seem to suffer from using a Western digital caviar* on any Linux distro except Ubuntu 10.04.
The drive I've been looking at is WESTERN DIGITAL CAVIAR GREEN 2TB SATA/300 64MB. Have the Linux kernel made a fix for this drive or should I go for another brand? They also sell Hitachi, Samsung and Seagate on the site and so far SAMSUNG SPINPOINT F3 1TB SATA/300 7200RPM 32MB seems good. Also read Seagate baracuda discs are good.
I have a digital camcorder (panasonic NV-GS33) and would like to get the video's to my Hd for editing etc,etc. From what i can see, linux only supports ieee1394. But, as with most google searches and linux you only ever seem to see the problem stories so thought id ask here to see how i could transfer via the usb2 port or weather its even possible?

I don't see the camera in the /media folder, nor do I see it in /mnt. When I browse to it through nautilus it shows up as "gphoto2://[usb:001,008]/" with the "008" changing each time. how do I see my files through bash?

I have a Nikon Cool Pix 990 camera which I could access under Fedora 11 (and previous) using digikam and/or gphoto2. However under F12 and F13 it no longer works. When plugged in I get a Nikon Camera icon that the system thinks is a usbfs. However the camera is too old for that interface. If I unmount the device then it shows under usb-devices as having Driver=(none). How can I get it to be recognised as a non-usbfs device ?

I'm trying to copy all my data(approx 50 GB) from a usb drive(western digital 250GB) with ntfs partition in one go... The problem is that it only fails for big transfers... works fine for smaller transfers like 1Gigs or less... I have just one internal hdd partitioned into two ext3 partitions.. so I have sda1(Primary.. mount pt /), sda2(swap) and sda3(mount pt /piyush)... The usb drive comes up as sdb(sdb1).. just has one ntfs partition... I've also installed the ntf-3g drivers.... but doesn't seem to work... I've also noticed that when the machine hangs and I try to shut down, it fails and I get a message again again... (sdb1- no sense detected) or something like this... don't remember the exact message... will post the exact one if no one is able to figure out what's wrong...

Whilst Vista boots in about 15 seconds, Fedora takes around twice as long; in fact far longer than Fedora 9 on my old Western Digital Raptor drive.
Is this to be expected, or might I have some sort of configuration problem? Has anyone else had similar experiences?
Digital Persona Fingerprint reader is not working on dell 1535. I am using fedora 13 64 bit edition. I have tried using lsusb |grep -i finger but nothing has come up. I have installed all the fprintd packages but still no luck.

First I tried the rpm, it went through the motions of installing but just disappeared. then I tied the .bin, got tot the installer, accepted the license, entered my root password, but it stopped installing with "an error occurred. Adobe AIR could not be installed. Install either Gnome Keyring or KDE KWallet before installing Adobe AIR". I opened Kwallet and tried again, but to no avail. I am running OS11.4 64 bit. What can I do to get this thing working?

I'm tired of this proprietary nonsense - is gnash or something else working with you tube and firefox ? or epithany ? how does gnash, whatever get plugged into Firefox so that clicking on a you tube video will bring it up ?
