Debian :: Setup A Squeeze Server For A Friend Of Mine Using Exact Apache2 Settings?
May 31, 2010
I just set up a Squeeze server for a friend of mine using my exact apache2 settings. He has been playing around, having a bit of fun learning HTML, but he ran into a problem where one of his images would not display. I at first figured his HTML was incorrect, but after a very long time of trying to figure out the problem, I still do not know what is going on, so I think it must be an apache2 problem?[URL]..

I'm running an up-to-date install of Squeeze, and I'm having an annoying issue where php5 won't parse in userdirs (/home/*/public_html), although it works fine in the main document root (/var/www). I found this bug: [URL] Which seems to say the issue is fixed. However, the last comment for this bug suggests it is still an issue for some.
I've had a look at: /etc/apache2/mods-enabled/php5.conf and commented out the lines suggested in the comment:
[Code]....
..and it still doesn't work. I've googled this and can't find an answer. Anybody know? Am I missing something simple?

I'm trying to setup apache2 to drop a core file when it crashes. I know that you need to set the CoreDumpDirectory directive in /etc/apache2/apache2.conf and run "ulimit -c unlimited" from the command line (and restart apache after the ulimit command). But, on a reboot, even though the output of "ulimit -a" shows unlimited, apache2 will not create a core dump file unliess you set ulimit -c unlimited again and restart apache2. There must be a way to configure apache2.conf or something so that ulimit -c unlimited is set prior to apache2 starting, no?

I have actually done quite a lot with Linux servers over the years. One thing I haven't ever done is upgrade one. At this time, however, it looks like my Lenny server must be upgraded to a newer MySQL, and I'm beginning to think it is easier to upgrade the entire installation.Is there a recommended way to upgrade Debian without disturbing home directories, non-standard directories such as /mystuff, config files such as my.cnf and smb.conf, etc?

Looks like I finally have the time to install Squeeze in the next few days. I have the DVDs here and ready to go! Once I finish housekeeping and do multiple backups, I'll be ready to have a go at this I would like to transfer the settings stored in /home from Hardy to Squeeze. Can I just copy and paste? Or will the difference between the two make that risky (or impossible). I am especially concerned about .gnome and .gnome2. I really don't want to have to reconfigure everything from scratch but I also don't want the file transfer to break things.
I would also like some advice about the install. It would be safest to unplug the three active drives, hook up the new 1TB and install / and /home partitions without the possibility of disaster. However, I eventually want to dual boot with the Hardy install. When I reconnect the Hardy disk, will Squeeze find Hardy if I sudo update-grub? Hardy is in ext3 and boots with Grub legacy. Do I need an MBR or is it OK to just boot from Squeeze's /.

I've just setup a fresh installation of Debian Squeeze and am trying to configure the firewall. I ran a search for iptables and got the following results:
debserv:~# find / -name iptables
/etc/bash_completion.d/iptables
/sbin/iptables
/usr/share/doc/iptables
[Code]....
When I run an iptables command to add a rule and reboot the new configuration is lost even after I have run the iptables-save command. I can't work out where the iptables config file is/should be stored so I could try editing the file with vi.

I have so far used reiserfs formatting both in my previous debian (sarge, etch and lenny) and opensuse (SLED10, opensuse-10.2,10.3 &11.3) and was very happy. When last month I installed debian squeeze I missed reiserfs (or did I miss noticing it?) Though Ext3 is giving me no trouble. I would love to have reiserfs. Is it now possible to change the filesystems without much trouble.

I have a Debian 5.0.7 installed to my server. I try to install Apache and SVN to this server. I use this tutorial: http://www.howtoforge.com/subversion...-ubuntu-server
But is unfortunately not working.
My apache virtual host configuration file is:
Code:
This passwd file containing 1 user:
Code:
The rights for the passwd file:
Code:
And apache2 is running like this:
Code:
And if I try to login to my page I got an "Internal Server Error" page.
And my error is in the apache log is this:
Code:
So I'm a little bit confused about it. The apache2 should have rights to open this file. I checked it, the file is exist and the apache2 is have rights for it. I don't understand it.

Using online Debian guide, installed latest nvidia-current, glx etc which seems to be 195.xx Machine boots to GUI but monitor setting menu doesnt respond nor is there an nvidia specific one. xorg.conf shows 'nvidia' driver but I suspect I am still on 'nouveau' since the synapatic package manager doesn't show an nvidia xserver-xorg-video choice.
Second question, any trailheads for using wheezy based drivers (i.e. nvidia's latest 270.xx) with squeeze?

How to configure Web authentication against RADIUS server on Debian Jessie, because the package libapache2-mod-auth-radius is not available on debian mirrors.
I would like to know what happened to this package and what is the newest way to configure radius auth. Some people have told me to compile this package, but is there not an easier way to do that?

Installed Apache2 on a Debian Lenny system. copied my old /var/www/htnl over to the new system.
Now when I open my browser to my PC I get the index.html under /var/www not /var/www/html.
I have this in my httpd.conf:
Code:
From what I have read, the DocumentRoot should have pointed to /var/www/html overriding /var/www?
If I use "10.1.1.13/html" it works the way it should.

I installed htop a few days ago and have been looking on it for a few days now. the server idles on about 80~ish tasks constantly with arond 20 apache tasks/connections to it all the time and the cpu usages of the 2 cores at about 1% each. but asoon as more apache2 connections/task get started and the servers tasks reach 120-140~ Apache2 timesout if you try to go to the webpage i host on the server. when it's back down to around 80~tasks you can reach the webpage once again. why is this ? what's causing this to happen ?

OS: Debian 5.0.4
Server: Apache2
I've used mod_rewrite to rewrite my apache2 root (my.server.com/) to point to /var/www/drupal6/ instead of /var/www/. I also have a script installed in my cgi-bin (/usr/lib/cgi-bin) but since the rewrite I can't seem to access it. When I go to my.server.come/cgi-bin/test.pl, I get a page not found from my drupal.
Is there a way I can access my cgi-bin without resorting to accessing my drupal through my.server.com/drupal6/?
Background: I have installed drupal CMS which has a base address of my.server.com/drupal6/ as it resided in /var/www/drupal6/. However I wanted users to be able to access it as my.server.com/ so I added the following into my httpd.conf
Code:
NameVirtualHost *:80
<Directory /var/www/drupal6>
RewriteEngine on
RewriteBase /
[Code].....

I wanted to setup a local Apache2 server for some programming and testing. I installed and got Apache2 working with PHP, MySQL and all works fine. Now I wanted to add an additional directory to somewhere in my /home. And that's where things went wrong. I went to edit /etc/apache2/sites-available/default. This is it:
Code:
<VirtualHost *:80>
ServerAdmin webmaster@localhost
DocumentRoot /var/www
<Directory />
Options FollowSymLinks
AllowOverride None
</Directory>
<Directory /var/www/>
Options Indexes FollowSymLinks MultiViews
AllowOverride None
Order allow,deny
Code:
You don't have permission to access /po/ on this server.
So I go to the logfile; which says this:
Code:
[Sat May 08 16:43:51 2010] [error] [client 127.0.0.1] (13)Permission denied: access to /po/ denied
I tried a lot of stuff using chmod and chown, but all to no avail. I tried to change the ownership of the /home/name/web to root, and to www-data, I changed file permissions to allow executing the files.
