I'm using Debian Jessie. All the firmware packages are properly installed, and so are the radeon free driver packages.
However, Gallium falls back to llvmpipe, which from what I understand is a software rasterizer and not actually hardware rendering.
Everything works fine except some specific things like KDE's cube animation, which says it can't be enabled because it requires OpenGL.
How do I get Debian to run Gallium properly?
I attached some relevant info...
glxinfo | grep -i opengl

I've installed Debian on my IBM600 laptop The GNOME version. And it's working great but when I did the install I got the notice to install the "Non-Free" Device Drivers to get all the system hardware to work properly.Specifically seems like the sound is all that is not working.

Sun ultra 5 (sparc64) Was working previously with Lenny, installed from 5.07 netinstall CD. Tried to do a fresh install with the stock 6.0 netinstall sparc64 CD. It couldn't find my CD drive. It suggested that I install drivers from a removable media, which I suppose I could try.
I suspect that the issue is the firmware, and I'd like to try a CD with non-free firmware included to check this, as it seems the easiest. However, I am unable to find a "non-free" install CD for the sparc64 architecture. I can find x86, amd64, ppc, but no sparc64. I've done searches, looked though links on these forums, etc.
Does anyone know where I could find a "non-free" firmware included install CD for sparc64?

Okay so i have switched over from Ubuntu to Fedora13 as Ubuntu has constant hard-lock-ups for me for 3 versions straight now. Using fedora for less than a day and it's working smoothly, customised my look a bit and all that too.Only problem is F13 uses xorg1.8 and ATi's current drivers only support 1.7 and below, is there any way to get it to work with 1.8 by tricking it somehow?

I installed Ububutu, tested my graphics card performance with glxgears, installed the proprietary fglrx drivers and get the same result. I was under the impression the proprietary drivers provided superior performance, is that not true?

I've got no sound. I'm not sure if I should post this in the hardware forum or not because i'm not completely sure that it might be hard ware. Here's the card that's in my laptop though. Raedon HD 4200 - RS880 Audio Device. And yes I made sure my sound was off mute.

Fedora is a distro that is focused only on free and open source software.This means that Fedora doesn't distribute any proprietary or patent encumbred software, so they'll not be present in the official Fedora releases and repositories. This does not mean that they cannot be instaled in a Fedora distro. Because there are many users who want to run some of that software, the community has been providing, since a long time ago, alternative ways to acomplish that. This is very important when a new release is distributed, because it attracts many first time users and not all of them are aware of the above mentioned, and every six months, the same questions are placed in the forums, regarding that.
To help new users to install the non free and proprietary stuff mentioned in the titlle, I decided to leave here a fast summary, chosed among many of the available options.
Flash (only 64 bit)
Code:
su
yum erase flash-plugin nspluginwrapper*
rpm -Uvh http://dl.dropbox.com/u/6907158/flashplayer.x86_64/flash-release-1-1.noarch.rpm
yum install flash-plugin

I bought a brand new pc (dell XPS 8300).I' installed suse (64 bit), on it.Graphic card is Radeon HD 6770 My screen, a Samsung BX2231 have a 1920x1080 resolution. Despite that being the set resolution, the image don't take all the screen, leaving a black border around the screen. The same happens on windows, but there is an option to set that that.
So I installed the proprietary drivers. I have indeed the option to set the image full screen. But, i get some display weirdness. The status bar on the top is all messed, so are the icons on it. With some things the text don't show right. If anyone have a clue on how to set the right size with the free drivers,or fix the wackiness with the proprietary ones.

We are going to buy notebooks for our company and as Nvidia graphic card drivers are proprietary I would like to avoid them and support a graphics card company that offers free open source license for their graphics card drivers. Are there any such companies? ATI?

I have tried doing some research on the correct method of installing drivers and getting compiz to work. I have recently switched from ubuntu to debian. The thing I loved about ubuntu, was what compiz could do. Where to Get the correct drivers or instructions and all set up so that I may use CCSM and have a sweet desktop cube again?

I looking for a new disto been using ubuntu. my friend recommended Debian, I just installed it and made it unusable very quickly by trying to use repositories for ubuntu. I'd like to know if there is an easy way to make my wireless work like in ubuntu it just does, (i don't even need to attach a cat 5 cable after install), and I'm happy in my blissful ignorance. Also an easy way to install nvidia drivers?
I need Broadcom and nivida 173 drivers. I looked through the Debian forums while I had a working system but found nothing easily and iceweavel was so slow, unless there was something wrong with my wired connection. Is there an easy way to install no free drivers?

I am trying out Debian 6 and was wondering how I install the Nvidia drivers. In Ubuntu, I just had to launch Hardware Drivers and install the drivers from there. Is Debian a harder distro to use than Ubuntu? Like I said, I am trying it out. I have a tendency to explore the different Linux distros hopefully finding one that is drop dead easy to use and maintain.

Feel stuck between Debian and BSD worlds - not sure where to turn.
Running GNU/kFreeBSD debian 8.1-1-amd64 and base system working. Can not get X or xrandr to co-operate and use proper resolution of 1680x1050. I believe the basis of this is that it using the VESA drivers and instead should be using the INTEL drivers.
I have no 'pkg_add' for ports, plus obviously no Debian repos will help for this .... unless there are some specific kFreeBSD repos I dont know about? I can post more details on the system, but am hoping that there are other options besides compiling. I can do that if need be, but not even sure which one to use. Will these work on this system? I want to install the nvidia drivers from the repository (they seem quite updated lately). But i hit some issues:
# aptitude install nvidia-glx
The following NEW packages will be installed:
libgl1-nvidia-alternatives{ab} libgl1-nvidia-glx{ab}
libglx-nvidia-alternatives{a} nvidia-glx nvidia-installer-cleanup{a}
nvidia-kernel-common{a} nvidia-kernel-dkms{a} nvidia-support{a}
nvidia-vdpau-driver{a}
[Code]...
Since the nvidia packages are in testing i assume they can be installed, do they?

I am running Debian "Sid" and cannot install the Nvidia driver. When I try to install the driver using Module Assistant it says "Bad luck, the kernel headers for the target kernel version could not be found and you did not specify other valid kernel headers to use." It also says "If the running kernel has been shipped with Debian please install the package linux-headers-2.6.32-trunk-amd64." The kernel I am running is the one currently in Debian "Sid".

I'm having all sorts of problems after doing my first update (#1. safe-upgrade, #2. full-upgrade) in over a month.
Anything from no Nvidia linux-headers being found to any VT not working. After completely removing all of the previously tried Nvidia presence on my PC, is there a safe way for me to install the non-free drivers?

It seems that I'm learning a bit about Debian in the last couple of days...
Here's the thing. I don't appear to be getting any 3D accelaration from my video card at the moment.
Having tried many things (which all failed) and making a mess of my computer I have done the following things:
1. Reinstalled Lenny from scratch.
2. Updated sources to point to stable and allowed update manager to do its thing.
I now appear to have a working build of squeeze.
X is up and running fine, but when I check /var/log/xorg it appears that I'm running the NOUVEAU driver, which does not support the 3D functionality of the card.
So... What is the best method for getting the appropriate driver installed?
My last attempt ended up with nvidia-glx fighting with xorg, so I'm hoping that someone will have up to date instructions that I can follow...

I have been trying to install fglrx drivers for my ATI card with Debian testing (x86) but without any luck. I have tried what it says here http://wiki.debian.org/ATIProprietary but I only come up with a blank screen (and also invoke-rc.d gdm stop does not work either?) I have also followed the directions at [URL]....html and that doesn't work either (make error 127). I must be doing something totally wrong.

How can I stop gnome to install my drivers?
