General :: Pidgin: No Way To Create A Yahoo Protocol Account
Jun 16, 2010
I have just found, that my pidgin on a old debian Lenny machine does not support Yahoo as a protocol anymore. When checking out the list of accounts, the one with yahoo is now listed as (unknown). And when I wipe pidgin clean off the system, remove all configuration and reinstall is, now there is no way to register a yahoo account, it is just not listed in all the protocols. What is going on???
I have another lenny machine and I use yahoo there all the time...
Recently, I fully upgraded my Lenny Desktop (to 5.0.4). Now I am unable to add yahoo and msn protocol in pidgin. I can't see those options in Pidgin>>Add Accounts dropdown. Several times I cleaned the old config files and reinstalled it. Still nothing to my avail
I installed pidgin 2.6.6 on fedora 13 and setup as following: protocol: yahoo pager server : scsa.msg.yahoo.com port: 5050 file transfer server: filetransfer.msg.yahoo.com file transfer port: 80 proxy: Use GNOME Proxy Setting
But I received the error: Unable to connect to Yahoo
I tried the previous post about connecting to 66.163.181.166 or changed port but still didn't work.
However I have another computer with linux FC4 and the pidgin 2.6.2 installed on FC 4 with same configuration works.
Once I open my messenger window and its time for me to log in I have my yahoo account ready to go so I key in my password and it never lets me log in. This suddenly started happening. However if I was to log in with an AOL account I can still log in. What can I do to solve this? I am assuming that somehow the system locked or disable my yahoo account from logging in.
KDE just upgraded on my installation of Slackware to 4.3.5 and it doesn't show my Yahoo Messenger in the list of accounts. When I try to re-add it, I get this message:
Quote:
Cannot load the Yahoo protocol plugin
It worked fine in KDE 4.3.4 (with the exception that Yahoo disconnected every couple of hours or so for a few seconds before reconnecting).
I'm not even sure which Slackware package includes Kopete...
I had installed pidgin and whenever i try to Sign-in to mu yahoo-Id, its Shows that it is CONNECTING and nothing happens, i waited alot, but in vain, I had also edited this line to my " sudo gedit /etc/hosts" > "66.163.181.170 scs.msg.yahoo.com"
i recently lost access to yahoo IM on 2 different computers (one 32-bit and one 64-bit) on both empathy and pidgin. it happened at around the same time on 2 separate machines on 2 separate networks. both gmail and msn will connect using both clients - it's only yahoo that will not connect and i've tried 2 different yahoo accounts, too...
i can still log into yahoo IM on a windows virtual machine and through the web messenger - just not using the ubuntu clients.
could there have been a recent update that may have caused this? i've also heard that yahoo in the past has changed around servers and put in measures to limit usages strictly to yahoo clients.
As of today I am unable to connect to Yahoo messenger in either Empathy or Pidgin. Empathy gives its generic "network error" and Pidgin says the account is disabled, and fails to connect when I click "re-enable." I've checked the obvious things such as username and password. I was able to connect through the web messenger so my credentials are good. Also tried swapping the server with the IP address and changing the character encoding as recommended here.
I am able to use google talk (through browser) for both audio and video calls.
Also I am able to use Skype for Audio calls. I am able to receive video from others, but they are not getting my webcam data.
So, I tried pidgin, I used pidgin audio calls, earlier in Xubuntu 10.
But When I am trying to use my yahoo id in pidgin, I am unable to use audio video calls. The menu is disabled. When my buddies trying to call, I am not getting call .
I get this error with a Java applet : "poppinlockin" - Invalid username/password combination. If you continue to get this error, try entering your email address as your username.
I have tried dozens of times to change the password/username and still the same! I try to log in manually and it won't log in. If i am on a different machine it is no problem so there much be somewhere the info is stored and i can delete it and redo it?
I'm not that new to Linux having used a few other distros but at the same time i am not really 'clued up' and can quickly get stuck. My problem is trying to get an IM program to work with my MSN account. I use this just to keep in touch with family/friends. Pidgin, doesn't seem to have an option to add an MSN account at all. I installed Empathy after using it in Fedora which gave me an option to setup a MSN account but it doesn't connect?
Trying to set up my Yahoo account on KMail. After entering all the correct (as far as I know) server settings, ports, etc. and trying to check my mail from KMail, I get the following message.
Could not login to pop.mail.yahoo.com. The password may be wrong. The server said: "[SYS/PERM] pop not allowed for user."
The password is definitely right. What is going on?
I use pidgin to chat for my yahoo account. When some one comes on-line I can know that by the sound. I want pidgin to show me the account who just comes on-line, like the feature of yahoo messenger. How can I do that?
I'm am successfully adding my gmail account to both empathy and pidgin (it shows up in green that i'm 'available' on my computer). However, I am unable to send or receive any messages. On empathy it just says there was a network error - unknown, and pidgin say there is an xmpp message error code 404.
I've been trying for months to get IM working with my gmail account.
I never considered I would want to remote access my laptop, or that I would be able to figure out how (I know....). In any case, my (only) username and password are not all that complicated - just there for deterence more than anything else (I have a barely functioning battery and a FDE hard drive, so if you're going to unplug and transport this baby, it'll shut off; my hard drive PW is solid).
In any case, I wanted to create another account that I could use to log into with SSH to be able to access files. I've started by disabling SSH login to my current user account (DenyUsers myusername). I know I could add a new user to my system with its own home directory and all, but I want it as least 'present' or invasive as possible. So in sum, is there a way to create an SSH only user, and if so, how?
I thought I would check here to get some pointers, to be sure I don't mess up my system!
Recently I have renovated an old computer which once belonged to my dad (the old HDD crashed, and I just bought a new one to replace it). My parents want me to fix this computer for my 5-year-old sister to use. I decided to use Linux Mint as the OS because everything (flash, mp3, etc.) is already configured.
How do I create a user account in Linux Mint with limited access for my sister, so that it won't mess up the entire system?
All she does is surf the web, so I'm just worried that she might accidentally mess up a system setting that I eventually will have to fix it.
creating template (phpldapadmin 1.2.0.5). I create new template where im creating User Account (possixAccount) but i need to create Generic: Ldap Alias that will be created in other ou than account and i need both in one template.
I have a strange problem with my skype beta (latest) and Pidgin (gmail account) the problem is when i make voice call, it works fine for 1 or 2 mins then the voice drops and it connects after 20,30 secs.
I am using Ubuntu 9.04. After doing sudo apt-get update When I try to insatll pidgin via terminal it shows: XXX@XXX-desktop:~$ sudo apt-get install pidgin Reading package lists...
