I just reinstalled TWM on one of my Debian boxes, and it's suddenly got a huge (*HUGE*) title bar. Must be 32px or so. But the font's the same as it always was. Is there a way to get it back to normal?
View 1 RepliesI don`t know what kind of combination of keys I pressed, but the title bar of all windows in my Gnome vanished. Trying to fix it, I unmarked the option "show menu bar" in one of my windows. Then, I realised I couldn`t put it back either. It`s kind of frustating be stuck in such a small problem, but Gnome isn`t offering me any easy way to put these things back in place. maybe with a keyboard combination of keys that recovers all of this?
I did it, it recovered Gnome windows default, but the menus are still gone. It just erased my customizations (colors, window color, bar size, etc.)
I only just upgraded to Squeeze and am now running Fluxbox 1.1.1. The toolbar is acting strangely, though, and I can't seem to find a solution online.
An example: I open Iceweasel, Thunar, and Icedove. If Iceweasel has focus, its window title will be on the left side of the toolbar. If I switch applications, and put that Thunar window in focus, the Thunar window title because the most-left item on the toolbar. I focus Icedove, Icedove's window title becomes the most left object on the toolbar and so on.
So when I upgraded to Slack64 13.1 on my asus MB homebrewed desktop and Slack 13.1 on my compaq presario a900 laptop, I started having issues with the xterm title (in Terminal--not Konsole) being too dynamic. By "too dynamic" I mean that I can't actually change the title. The dynamic title (from my .bashrc) is basically just pwd. Whenever I try to set the title (via terminal->set title (menu)), I changes it for a split second, and then reverts back to the dynamic title.
This is merely a petty annoyance, so to get around it, I added an xtitle function that I grabed somewhere online (just echos "�33]0;$*�07"). So for nano-ing some file, I'd type:xtitle some_file.txt; nano some_file.txt
That works just fine (kind of annoying to type though). running xtitle alone won't actually change the name either though (I'm pretty sure it's the same command as what terminal does anyway). That is, running: xtitle some_file.txt
changes the title for a split second, and the reverts back to my old pwd.What I really want is to have it dynamically name it "some_file.txt" whenever I use nano, but that appears to be a functionality of zsh (with the preexec() fxn).I'm wondering if anyone else has had this problem, and if you have a fix for it.
after upgrading from Karmic Koala 9.10 to Lucid Lynx 10.04, i notice something different with title bar on every window opened.
for example:
"Google - Mozilla Firefox" is not at the middle of the window title. and on Lynx it's on the left.
Everything worked 100% great untill I change color depth to 16 bits.I do not want 24 Bits, I want 16 Bits. I have good reasons. Never had this problem in Gutsy 7.10 ...I deeply regret in upgrading to 9.10 ...

Changes to xorg.conf file: Firstly, I saved it at 16 color depth with the sudo nvidia-settings and by clicking on the save to xorg.conf file Button. Rebooted computer....... It worked, saved file, and I got the following bugs:
*Cannot move windows by dragging their title bars.
*Cannot see close "X" Button in the title bar.
*Cannot see Minimize Button in the title bar.
*Cannot see Maximize Button in the title bar.
Went back to 24 bits and problem got resolved. Then i tryed: I did sudo gedit xorg.conf I changed all the 24's with 16's ... Rebooted computer....... It works GOOD... BUT: I got the same bugs from before. I will retype them below

View 5 Replies View RelatedAnother hair-pulling WTF moment... All I wanted to do is add a title to the start of a screencast, nice words overlaying the screen vid. In kdenlive:
1. Project menu > Add title clip
2. Format text etc.
3. Set the title clip's background opacity to 0 = (should be?) fully transparent.
4. Put the clip on the timeline, on a higher track than the screen vid.
5. kdenlive obliterates the screen and displays the text with a black background.
There has got to be an easy way to do this. kdenlive.org documentation seems outdated (their screenshots look different from the version I got from synaptic). Do I really have to make the title in GIMP like some webpages say? I can do it, but that's idiotic. kden should be able to do it.

Getting Enemy Territory Quake wars to run in Sid? I have steam working, but I can't get the popular Linux title ETQW to work. First I was getting the typical error when ia32-libs is not installed. So instead I ran "apt-get install libsdl1.2debian:i386" and that seemed to make the game get further in boot instead of the lib error, however then I'm spammed with (to the point I can't scroll up to read the error)

so I don't know what to do now, could it be as simple as installing more packages? I've had the game run flawlessly on wheezy before, never had this error before. I am using Sid with an ASUS AMD R7 370, open source driver, and kernel 4.3 same error when i drop to root permissions
when I connected to the L32 HDTV over the HDMI cable, picture came up, and I thought great, plug & play. But the title bar and taskbar were missing and I soon learned that this cheap Vizio TV has a native resolution of 1366x768 and simply upscales and chops off what it considers "overscan" when you drive it at the proper 720p 1280x720. To add to the problems, it doesn't report the correct EDID modes (look at your /var/log/Xorg.0.log to see the probes or install and use the read-edid package) so 1366x768 isn't an option out of the box. I spent days mucking around with /etc/X11/xorg.conf with custom Modelines, strange options and copying confs from other threads, trying to get it working at 1366x768 or 1360x768 or 1368x768 (some variations seem to work for some people)
In the end, I didn't have to touch xorg.conf at all =) All I had to do was install the newer NVIDIA 195 drivers!!! Then you get the lovely Overscan Compensation slider in nvidia-settings, and all is well. First, you will have to apt-get remove the old drivers (probably -185 or -180). Install apt-show-versions for an easy way to do that. I had a bunch of junk, I just removed all packages that had nvidia-someversionnumber in the package name.

I need a simple to use video editor that will allow me to add a "title bar" the the bottom of a video, preferably an image. It would also be great if I could put a logo in the corner. If Ubuntu doesn't have anything that can do this atm I am open to Windows.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI've finally gotten around to installing Fedora 15 and I've been having some trouble with VLC. When it is maximized the title bar at the top disappears. The VLC window is also covering up the panel at the top of the screen. This makes it so that I have no way to minimize it or even restore it to a window once it is open. I also can't switch to other windows. So right now if I have vlc open the rest of my computer is completely unusable.
View 4 Replies View RelatedThis issue has plagued ubuntu 10.04 on all my installations, PC and laptop, and is an infrequent annoyance that needs to be resolved. Basically, after boot up, i'll bring up a gnome window and the title bar will not be there. This means I can't click and drag windows easily, and do other things the title bar lets you do. Is there an easy fix to this that i'm not locating? Also i've tried restarting my X session, by logging out, and the problem persists until I restart the system. And even then the title bar may not load.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI just got F12 and installed it on a new hard drive on my Dell Inspiron 1501. I have an AMD 64 x2 and an ATI Express 200M video card. I installed CompizConfig setting manager, which did nothing. I then installed Compiz Fusion Icon. This makes compiz work but once I start it all of my windows are missing the title bar. I'm noob and not a programmer but pretty good and figuring things out.In Emerald Theme Manager I can view available themes select them, edit them, etc. There seems to be no way to apply them. Am I missing something or is it just not working?

But the operation: xterm -T 'Some Title' does not do anything. Instead, the current directory is always displayed in the title bar of the window (on kde). View 6 Replies View RelatedIt's hard to tell for sure if this is related to a recent update or not. There've been a bunch for sure In any of the GUI the title bars, there used to be 3 boxes on the right end. Minimize, Maximize and close. They're gone. Totally vanished for all users.
L click on the icon near the left end of the title bar or a R click anywhere on the title bar brings up a menu with such options (and others), but I sure do miss my 'close' button!

View 5 Replies View RelatedI've been using the Pandora One app. on my opensuse 13 installation and two things have come up.
1st, (almost certainly because it's an Adobe Air container) I can't right-click on the title bar and move the app. to another workspace like I can with every other app. Is there a workaround like a key press combination or something?
2nd, and I am not sure if this is specifically a Pandora issue some combination of apps. but sometimes (most noticeable when Pandora is running) all my apps. just "freeze" for many secs. (perhaps about 10-20 secs.) and then suddenly all my clicks and key presses catch up. I have a 2.6Ghz quad core duo CPU and it doesn't look anywhere near at 100% on any of the cores when this happens (more like 10%). It seems like there's some sort of a "lock" preventing all internal messaging in X for those seconds. If there was a way to lower the thread priority on the Pandora app. then that might be a good way to resolve this but I have no idea how to do that.

I have to go into Appearances and manually set my visual effects.I don't know how this happened, but it started around the time I installed CompizConfig.Karmic Koala, 1.6GHZ Intel Atom processor, 1GB RAM, dual-booting with Windows XP.

View 7 Replies View RelatedEvery now and then (that is two or three times a day) the title bar (the one with the exit/minimise/maximise icons on it) disappears from all open windows and any I subsequently open.
The only way to get it back is to reboot.
Not critical, but a nuisance.
Ubuntu 10.10 Fresh install, nVidia drivers activated.
The window title bar has disappeared, don't know how I did it but can't find how or where to put it back -
