Debian Multimedia :: Radio Broadcasting Software For Linux
Nov 4, 2015
I have finally made the switch from Windows to Linux even in my workstations at home, after several years running it in servers, routers etc and i only miss one single program that can make me delete my last virtual machine with Windows 7 forever, a professional radio broadcasting program. I have been broadcasting radio for several years and have mostly used Sam Broadcaster for Windows, have been testing a lot of linux-variants but nothing can compare with Sam or Radiodj.ro on the Windows-side. I found the package "Mixxx" lately and it's almost suit my needs but still not quite there yet with soundFx, station ID's jingles, request functions etc.
I have managed to get Sam Broadcaster (version 4.9.1) working very well with Wine, the only problem is that the audio sounds really bad. The sound crancle a lot and i have been trying several workarounds and spent hours on google without success. If i could get the audio sounds better i think the best solution for now is to stick with sam since i know that program in my sleep and it can be configured to use MySQL database to store everything from playlists to lyrics of songs etc, it will be some job to switch program if it doesn't use MySQL.

I am wondering if any in the Ubuntu community owns a Carmen Car Radio player by Livio Radio. The program to save internet radio to the device is written in Java, however I am not able to run it either using WINE or using Open JDK.
The Carmen Player does work well with Banshee, it is the internet radio that is not working.

I have a new install of Karmic on my system with a flyvideo 3000 tv card installed. My problem is that it doesn't find any radio channels and the input channel is completely wrong. I don't have any sound on gnomeradio and can't find the config files to change the input channel. The only input option available to me is dig1 - can anyone point me in the right direction?
I have already read the Howto for this tv card and changed the device to radio0 in the setup. I have setup tvtime perfectly with sound channel as well as with a 5.1 surround configuration. I am missing my favourite radio channel. and I want to get rid of my windows installations once and for all! Update: I did a system update and some things have changed: the radio tower graphic on gnomeradio is now green (I assume it is getting a signal) but no sound yet.

Yes I know there was so many themes created about broadcasting shoutcast radio, but I wasn't got information where program work good. I have tried IDJC, but not work. I need the program that I just install it and works. Program should have 2 audio players (1 is good too) and microphone "player" for talking (key OFF/ON).
P.S.: My PC runs Ubuntu 10.04

I was using rygel two months ago with ubuntu 10.04 and it worked great. Then I installed windows so I could have a dual boot system. This week I finally got around to reinstalling Ubuntu, and upgrading it to 11.04 and am having issues. I went into rygel's preferences and specified the directory I wanted to share. In that directory i have the movies sorted into eight folders by genre. At first I used the MediaExport plugin but three of the folders don't have content when I open them on the bluray player (LG bd570). When I use the Tracker plugin it seems I get completely random movies broadcasted but definately not all. I added tags to my movie files so I didn't have to scroll through all of them to find what I wanted and although the tags I added show up under the tags folder in the bluray none of the tags have any files under them.

I have been using Debian 8 with XFCE for the past 9 months.
Recently I had a simple job of going through a bunch of receipts (several hundred) and rotating them so that they were all portrait. Easy you may say? Linux fails dramatically.
My only requirements are a visual tool where I can see the image and then a button or even better a keyboard shortcut so I can rotate clockwise/anti-clockwise and move onto the next.
Here are my attempts at this:
ATTEMPT 01 - GIMP
GIMP works but you have to load it up everytime, and the save as feature tries to push XCF format onto you. I just want to overwrite it.
ATTEMPT 02 - GTHUMB
GThumb works as well, but its horribly slow, pops up an annoying image distortion prompt everytime you do it, and it moves the image you've just rotated to the end of the filmstrip and takes you there with it. Unworkable in reality.
ATTEMPT 03 - Nautilus
Nautilus simply fails altogether with a GTK error in the background.
ATTEMPT 04 - Ristretto
This is the default viewer with Debian 8 and it works. Or so I thought. When you rotate in Ristretto it just rotates it within the software and doesn't persist it within the image. So I went off and did 50 of them, thought I had and when I went to view them in other software they were still landscape. Incredibly frustrating.
ATTEMPT 05 - Windows 7 - Standard Image Viewer
This just works. I click one button, rotate left/right and then click next and it's saved. Ristretto could do this if it actually persisted the changes but it doesn't. So I find myself doing this job in a Windows 7 Virtual Machine because Linux just simply doesn't provide a working tool for me.
Any software that does the above simple task well in Linux?

I use Debian Jessie with Linux 4.4.6 from backports and obviously systemd. My graphics card is Intel HD 5500, my processor is Broadwell i5-5200U. I use Toshiba Satellite Pro laptop.Suspending to RAM works fine, but I have problem with hibernation. Resuming from hibernation also works, but only when time between hibernating and resuming is a few hours. When this time is for example 10 hours (I hibernate before going to sleep and resume next day morning), I can't resume from hibernation. I see only black screen and keyboard doesn't work. In that case when I type in terminal
Code: Select alljournalctl
I can see:
Code: Select allPM: Starting manual resume from disk
PM: Checking hibernation image partition UUID=8640b415-7de4-48c2-b6ab-2629a5894316
PM: Hibernation image partition 8:4 present
PM: Looking for hibernation image.
PM: Image not found (code -22)
PM: Hibernation image not present or could not be loaded.
This is weird, because when I hibernate and resume after 2 hours, everything is OK. My SWAP is large enough (I have 16 GiB of memory and 16 GiB of SWAP).
I have Code: Select allGRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet resume=UUID=8640b415-7de4-48c2-b6ab-2629a5894316 acpi_osi=linux i915.enable_rc6=1 i915.lvds_downclock=1 i915.enable_fbc=1 pcie_aspm=force" in /etc/default/grub and Code: Select allRESUME=UUID=8640b415-7de4-48c2-b6ab-2629a5894316 in /etc/initramfs-tools/conf.d/resume
I hibernate my computer using hibernate button in Kickoff in KDE Plasma.

record my radio show from a radio I have plugged into my iMac. That's right. For now, I am dual booting on my iMac until I can afford to buy a dedicated PC desktop just for Ubuntu.
I can't believe that there seems to be no way for me to record my shows from my radio. Works fine when I boot into the Mac side and even when I use Ubuntu using VMware Fusion. When I boot into Ubuntu directly, Audio In in the Sound preferences doesn't seem to work. No audio coming through when I try to record from the radio.

I installed latests version Suse 64bit, and I have problems with Internet radio streams. Streams are skipping for 2-3 seconds every 10-20 seconds, or sometimes as long as 1-2 minutes. I tried GStremer and Xine engines, tried Amarok, Banshee.... always the same - radio streams skipping. I never found a way to increase buffer for Internet streams. Updated to last versions , still the same.

I just installed OpenSuse 11.2 KDE on my Macbook and try as I might, I cannot get used to Amarok. I like Banshee and it's simple interface, plus the way it handles radio stations and the like.
I did install it using YaST and I am able to run it, but I am unable to add internet radio stations and also I am unable to play them (and other MP3 files) if I manually connect to the stream. As far as adding radio stations, I am unable to because the Genre box stays grayed out and the Save button stays grayed out because the Genre box has not been filled in (but I can't because it's grayed out). As far as playing MP3s, Banshee says I need a codec and when i click 'Search' for a suitable codec, it takes me to an OpenSuse download page with the decoder there but it's for OpenSuse 10.3, not 11.2.
These are probably simple problems with simple solutions but I can't seem to figure them out. Also, K3B says the MP3 Decoder is missing as well. I'm sure it is related to the Banshee problem too.

How does a person determine the URL of the audio stream for a Live365 broadcast in order to create a new radio station entry in Rhythmbox? I would like to be able to access and listen to the audio stream completely from within Rhythmbox.

I've recently purchased HP Mini 210 (about a few months ago) which has wireless accessibility. Unfortunately, internet is not easily accessible from where I live unless you have a home connection (which is quite expensive) or you connect to a Cyber Cafe (not really convenient). I've checked some really good tools like FM Radio and Rhythmbox which require internet in order to stream radio stations directly.I'm quite fond of FM Radio, though recently an old radio broke down and I thought a netbook could help (although I admit I bought the netbook for writing scripts and stories solely). Although it's funny that an old technology can do what's it's meant to do, while a newer one (PC's) depend on internet alone.
What I was wondering is that since HP Mini 210 has a wireless access capability isn't it capable of catching FM Radio waves like an old radio without depending on internet connectivity? If it is capable of it, how do I do that?

I am using VLC to listen to a radio stream online. It works ok, but always takes ~2min to actually connect to the stream. I opened VLC up via a terminal and got the following output:Quote:

Blocked: call to unsetenv("DBUS_ACTIVATION_ADDRESS")

I am seemingly having a problem with the command "vlc://quit". I have an .sh file which accesses a streaming url. If I leave "vlc://quit" in the .sh file it executes immediately - i.e. supposedly goes through all the preceding commands but closes down (quits) before anything happens. If I take it out everything is fine ( vlc opens, finds, plays/records & stops). But, of course, I'm left with vlc still open.

tried to do a search for this but it's a bit of a tricky thing to search for. Basically what I'm after is a solution for my work so I can stream a online radio station down to 1 server, and then have the clients stream the audio from that. Anyone know if that's possible?
so:
Online Radio >> Server >> Clients
Any linux or winblows solution would be fine, I'm just trying to look for a solution that would cut down on the internet bandwidth usage, but still allow uses to listen to online radio.

Is it possible to record an Internet radio stream? I don't mean the audio output, I mean the stream itself, which often contains additional data such as track and artist details.
I guess what I'm asking is how to record the stuff that goes /into/ my media player, rather than what comes out of it. But maybe dealing with raw data like this would result in huge files and be impractical?
