CentOS 5 :: Mounting Ntfs Partition - Error: "no Such Package In Repos"

Aug 5, 2009

I come from ubuntu, and, although they are all linux distros, they differ in a lot of things. Well, I just install the OS and I have a 1 TB drive for storage formatted in NTFS, I identified the device with fdisk -l, but the problem is Centos doesn't understand ntfs partition out of the box. Is there any package I need to install. I tried yum install ntfs-3g, but got an error: "no such package in repos,"

Debian :: Iceweasel Add - Ons In The Repos?

Aug 29, 2011

A few days ago, I noticed that flash wasn't working. I don't use flash often and have Flashblock guarding the gates so not quite sure when that happened. In the process of getting it running again I noticed a lot of Iceweasel add-ons are available in the Debian repos. In fact, deleting Flashblock from Firefox and switching to the one from the repos may be what fixed the problem (or it could have been the latest Iceweasel update which I reinstalled).

Anyway, my question is . . . just how do add-ons available via Synaptic and those from Firefox differ? And is it preferable and advisable to use the ones in Synaptic? Since I imported my old profile from Firefox to Iceweasel, I have a lot of standard add-ons rather than the Debian version.

Debian Multimedia :: Package Conflict With KDE And Xfce (wheezy)

Jul 27, 2011

I have Xfce installed on wheezy, and I was planning on installing some KDE components for kicks. When I tried to install kdebase-workspace I got this error from aptitude The following NEW packages will be installed:

[Code]...

The following packages are RECOMMENDED but will NOT be installed: kinfocenter plasma-scriptengines policykit-1-gnome polkit-kde-1 upower 0 packages upgraded, 30 newly installed, 0 to remove and 49 not upgraded.
Need to get 78.5 MB of archives. After unpacking 137 MB will be used. The following packages have unmet dependencies: xfce4-notifyd: Conflicts: notification-daemon but it is not going to be installed.

If it's not going to be installed, then where is the conflict? I've seen "Depends: X but it is not going to be installed", which makes sense. The only solutions are to remove xfce4-notifyd or to keep most of the KDE stuff uninstalled. apt-get also wants to remove xfce4-notifyd. Edit: Ok, it looks like both plasma-widgets-workspace and xfce4-notifyd provide notification-daemon, but I still don't understand why the aptitude error doesn't tell me that xfce4-notifyd conflicts with plasma-widgets-workspace instead of notification-daemon.

Debian Multimedia :: Source Install Can't Find Package Keybinder

Dec 12, 2015

I'm installing xfce4-volumed-pulse 0.2.0-4. [URL] .....

Getting the error:
Code: Select allThe required package keybinder was not found on your system.
*** Please install keybinder (atleast version 0.2.2) or adjust
*** the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable if you
*** installed the package in a nonstandard prefix so that
*** pkg-config is able to find it.

I have installed everything available in the jessie repo with "keybinder" in the name. It seems like my path variable is configured correctly:

Code: Select allpkg-config --variable pc_path pkg-config gives me:
Code: Select all/usr/local/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/pkgconfig:/usr/local/lib/pkgconfig:/usr/local/share/pkgconfig:/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/pkgconfig:/usr/lib/pkgconfig:/usr/share/pkgconfig

and (leaving out doc files and such) locate libkeybinder gives me

Code: Select all/usr/lib/libkeybinder.so.0
/usr/lib/libkeybinder.so.0.1.0
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libkeybinder-3.0.so.0
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libkeybinder-3.0.so.0.0.0

So I can't figure out how to get keybinder recognized.

Debian :: Number Of Repos That Are Checked Has Dropped?

May 18, 2010

I'm new to Debian and I have just installed it on three machines. To begin with they checked about 60 or so repos when doing an update. Then quite quickly this dropped to 48. I have removed the DVD media from the sources list after installation but that was before I saw this drop. It happened after an update as far as I can tell. I didn't think anything of it at the time. By the time all three were set up they were all only checking 48 repos. However I also have a VM, for trying out new stuff, and whilst that has been updated it still remains at about 60 (currently 59).

Debian Configuration :: Apt Update Errors On Locally Mounted Repos

Nov 27, 2015

My primary repos are DVD .isos on my hard drive loop-mounted in /etc/fstab. Although I can install packages just fine and there are no issues with running installed applications, I must have screwed up the configuration of /etc/apt/sources.list because I get this output when I do apt-get update:

Code: Select allIgn file: jessie InRelease
Ign file: jessie InRelease
Ign file: jessie InRelease
Ign file: jessie InRelease
Ign file: jessie InRelease

[Code] .....

Here is my rather primitive but functional /etc/apt/sources.list:

Code: Select all# deb cdrom:[Debian GNU/Linux 8.2.0 _Jessie_ - Official amd64 DVD Binary-1 20150906-11:13]/ jessie contrib main
# deb cdrom:[Debian GNU/Linux 8.2.0 _Jessie_ - Official amd64 DVD Binary-1 20150906-11:13]/ jessie contrib main
deb file:/dvd1 jessie main contrib
deb file:/dvd2 jessie main contrib
deb file:/dvd3 jessie main contrib

[Code] ....

So what exactly have I screwed up?

Debian :: Debian Synaptic Package Manager Error: Xserver-xorg Stripped?

Feb 10, 2011

I have used Debian Linux for two years, most recently the seventh or so iteration of Version 5. I use the Gnome desktop and the Synaptic Package Manager, not the Update Manager, for updates because it's easier to build a log with the former. In my most recent update, Synaptic stripped out all the xserver-xorg files47 in all. I thought it peculiar but did not know enough to interfere. When I rebooted, the system told me I must install xserver or correct GDM configuration and restart.

Have I been hacked? Am I being tested by the Linux Illuminati? Or does it have something to do with the warning message I received at the end of the update-upgrade, attached? And how do I go about reinstalling xserver? With Aptitude? I have tried running apt-get -f install, to no effect.
