Debian Multimedia :: All The Packages Are Gone - How To Find Them

View 10 RepliesI can't find gnome-mount using aptitude, but certainly it is listed in packages.debian. org/squeeze. Maybe I need add a new repository. But how do I know what is that repository?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a short question. I want to find out which packages are depending on some package. For example, I want to know which packages are depending on evolution. Is there any possibility how to find it out?
View 11 Replies View RelatedI have a computer with internet access with amd64 architecture running Debian stable (Lenny). I have another computer with NO internet access with i386 architecture running Debian stable (Lenny).I want to download some packages for the i386 computer using the amd64 computer. So far, the only way I can see to do this is to use dpkg-architecture to temporarily change to i386 on the internet computer, run aptitude with the download-only option to retrieve the packages I need with all suitable dependencies, then switch the internet computer back over to amd64.
I can't imagine I'm the only person who ever needed to do this, and yet I've had no luck finding any advice. The method I described seems rather awkward - is there a more elegant solution?
I apologize to the membership, I realize now the absurdity of this subject. Having now studied the online repository search functions closer, I see it appears packages are automatically retrieved with all necessary dependencies. As such, it is not necessary to use apt and its various functions to do the job.
Some times ago I used multimedia.org. Now, I don't use them anymore. But some packages were installed from theirs source, for example yesterday I discovered old flashplayer-mozilla... Now I want to know, which of my packages are from multimedia.org repository. How to check this one? Any dpkg or apt magical command?

I have a headless server which I have recently clean-installed debian6 on. I want to install fluxbox (I connect remotely using No Machine). I had a similar setup with debian5 earlier but have lost the notes I made during the previous install. When I google minmal gui installs, there are different 'recipes' concerning which base packages for x are necessary e.g. xorg, x-window-system-core etc.Which packages for x should I choose (and why)?I don't use a display manager (gdm etc.), and the hardware is not so powerful (via en12000).
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm wondering if there's a way to verify the integrity of installed packages/programs against official repos. I did an update via synaptic about a week ago and it asked me to upgrade several packages such as login, su, passwd, groupadd, useradd, lastlog, and several others. Right away I was concerned about this, but I figured it's via synaptic, must be safe. Well now it's a week later and I'm trying to find some "last updated" info for these packages, changlelogs, whatever, to verify that they were indeed official releases/updates, and I'm coming up empty.
Is there something I can do to verify that these files and my system are still intact?
How to fix this synaptic error ?

View 1 Replies View RelatedIs there any repository providing latest ALSA packages for Debian?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI had a broken URL in my /etc/apt/sources.list file, apparently because the debian-multimedia.org site had some kind of server issue and they had to rebuild the site from the ground up. They must have changed their directory structure, because I began getting 404 Errors when upgrading packages. I eventually fixed the URL last week after it had been broken for three months, then I upgraded and rebooted. After that, sound stopped working, even system sounds. My speakers work, because I plugged them into another machine and they worked. I eventually discovered that the master volume was set to "mute", and so was the master volume in the alsamixer. However, even after changing it to 100% for both, sound still doesn't work. I even made sure to issue a "alsactl -store" command toeep the settings there after a reboot. I removed and reinstalled all the alsa and pulse audio packages, made sure that the emu10k1 driver was installed for my Soundblaster Audigy card, and made sure everything was unmuted. I have also tried a million other things that I've found on Google, but nothing seems to work. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Is this a problem in Debian repos (held packages) or I'm actually doing something wrong?
the mcr85+1 packages were built using qt 4.6.3, so will be squeeze-compatible. umplayer is a fork of the abandoned smplayer project which adds skinning, shoutcast stream, and minitube-like videos search, playback, and download capability to the program.

i did a pull and build from the svn repo, since that is newer than the 0.92 debs on the website and solves some videos issues. debianized sources included so one can build the program on any architecture that supports qt 4 4.6 and mplayer...plus it's a good idea not to trust anybody's binaries off the web, so to be really safe, rebuild the program yourself if you don't know who the heck i am. update 20 april 2011: link to svn 143 builds and sources: [url] update: 25 june 2011: new pull from svn--fixes the returning control bar problem with skins and kde 4 kwin desktop effects enabled:

squeeze users should use the mcr85 packages, the mcr110 ones need qt 4.7. sources included as usual. it looks like it would be a nice addition to the debian repo...
Here's the deal: I'm in the backwoods with this mini-laptop and I'd like to do some composing with it. I don't have much internet here so I can't start googling around or download hundreds of MB's of packages. Anyone able to recommend me a good, lightweight midi notation software?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI did the UPGRADE from Karmic Koala to Lucid, and everything was going well. But now I've been having problems with the UBUNTU UPDATE tool for the last 2 weeks. I have debian squeeze (and a bit of sid, actually). I wanted to install the newest pidgin, so I added at sources.list the sid repository, and tried to install pidgin, but it needed the newest perl-base 5.12.3-6 (from 5.10.1-17). So I let it upgrade. after that I realized that my mysql server isn't running, and actually this is my problem. So I tried reinstalling it, home:/home/amalia# apt-get install mysql-server-5.1. However, every now and then it just vanishes from my menu and it can't be found again, also the command in the terminal can't find anything.
So, what's left is to reinstall it, and during reinstall it doesn't even whine about already being installed.
Anybody else with this matter? I am running 64-bit Squeeze.
After about 2-3 months using Linux i found the right OS for me which is Debian Stable i386 LXDE + OpenBox.When i finally was totally sure about my choice then it was time to buy a new PC. I bought an Acer Aspire 5541.
Well...When i was going to install Debian stable it couldn't find any of my network drivers..so i installed exactly the same but with Testing in the hope of getting every hardware to work with the right drivers. Well.. here is what i have done.Wireless did not work but i fixed it.Sound did not work bit i fixed it.nd to fix my window borders and workplaces (i am not using compiz but for some reason in my last reboot themes , the number of workplaces set to 1 and window borders lost...)
I have it installed and running nicely so I am following sqlpython's "How To: Full multimedia in Squeeze" to get my various players playing. sqlpython seems to have been running a KDE environment while I am running Gnome, but that should not make a critical difference.
If I do (as root) apt-get install libdvdcss apt does not find it. Same result for libdvdcss2.
BTW, which of these would be more appropriate for my 64-bit squeeze?

Code: Select allpkg-config --variable pc_path pkg-config gives me:

View 8 Replies View RelatedI want to find a way to stream my home movies online, so that I can watch them anywhere. I want it to have a way to see all the movies I am streaming and just click on the one I want to play. It cannot be in flash format because of quality reasons. I'd rather it be able to support xvid or divx if possible because of its compression ratio. If not the movie would have to be no more then 1.4gbs a movie and still have good quality.
The closest thing I got to this was jinzora. I have also tried mediatomb (but I cannot figure out a way for vlc player to open the files without manually entering each link and I also cannot figure out a way for it to know at what point it is in the movie ex: 43:01/1:00:00). I am willing to use other formats if needed, but the size cannot be anymore then 1.4gb and still has to be good quality.
I upgrade yesterday my lenny to squeeze.
Now I have some problem with compiz. When I do compiz --replace, I get:
compiz (core) - Fatal: Software rendering detected.
compiz (core) - Error: Failed to manage screen: 0
compiz (core) - Fatal: No manageable screens found on display :0.0
Launching fallback window manager
Is it a driver problem? My ATI video card is one of them that works only with open driver and they seems corrrectly installed. glxinfo | grep render, give me a positive result.
