What package provides the utility found in the gnome-control-center for changing the notification themes? There is a gconf key that says slider, so it's possible it can be changed there, but I'm not certain what themes are available/valid

This problem has lasted for several months, but I can't find anything like bug report in debian related website.
Basically my problem is after genome-terminal (version 3.4.1.1) is launched, I want to change profile setting such as font, color, etc. However, when I click the button `Edit > Profiles > Edit`, nothing happens (no dialogue pop up). `Edit > Profiles > New` And `Edit > Profiles > Delete` function correctly.
I'm trying to manually install Squeeze/KDE - i.e. not the whole kitchen sink that comes with the DVDs but a cut-down version suited to my needs. Since it's a custom install, and since I'm no expert, I can't be sure (even after reading TFM, and browsing forums) wehether the problem I'm having is to do with KDE/debian, or with my install method. Anyway, the jist of the matter is that after several attempts to install debian/kde, each time using slightly different sets of packages, I either have sound in KDE notifications, but not elsewhere, or else everything starts okay, but after some untraced post-install tweak I lose sound to everthing except KDE notifications.
I'm certain that it's not simply a matter of not setting the sound levels high enough, as Wesnoth (one of the packages not making sounds) cannot be set in the preferences dialog to enable sounds (i.e. cannot place check marks in the sound preferences dialog). Other games are also without sound, and so are flash videos in iceweasel. Also, when I start systemsettings>multimedia all of the tests come up positive with the nice kde sound being made.I've installed all the phonon packages I can think of, with and without alsabase. I've also tried to use a different backend apart from xine, but other than that I'm stumped.
I've used the backport described on the debian news to switch from Open Office to Libre Office. It didn't work with Synaptic, but without any complications when I used "apt-get" on the command line.
Unfortunately this left me with a confused synaptic package management:
My former Open Office is gone, but I get notifications for an Open Office update. I tried to solve the problem by deleting the backport-ressource from my sources list, but the notification won't vanish.
Except Libre Office I'm using a clean squeeze installation without anything I couldn'd find on the main sources list...
Does anybody know how I can get rid of this useless notification?
I'm running newest pidgin on sid and i have few problems. First of all notifications doesn't work (plugin is of course turned on), also even when i turn on blinking icon it's not blinking. Oh and why the tray icon is so small now?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI opened firefox and it restored some ~15 windows I had open last time I rebooted. The problem is that for each window it opened it gave me a notification that it's ready, and now they won't go away. I know that I could simply remove them one by one, but that's a bit tedious and I really want to know if there's a faster way to clear all notifications when I'm not intending to look at any of them.
Here's what's happening at the bottom of my screen: I just find it really annoying because it pops up every time I accidentally touch the bottom edge of the desktop.

About two weeks ago I enabled KDE factory repo to get the latest KDE 4.4. Everything was fine until a recent update, which caused sound working only in some applications. Sound now works when tried in System Settings and Yast->Sound, but it does not work in Firefox, VLC, Skype, and so on.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have been trying to install Squeeze from the 6.0.1a KDE CD-1 plus the Debian repos. I just cannot get X to work. I get similar bad results to those mentioned by other users having similar problems, but none of the suggested fixes works.
Basic hardware information:
Desktop PC, whole 40 GB disk used for install
Graphics card: none Video controller on motherboard: VIA Technologies S3 UniChrome VGA controller (about 8 years old)
Monitor: Samsung Syncmaster 1280 x 1024 (about 8 years old)
Some things I've already tried: in rescue mode, as root, in /etc/X11X -configuremove file to /etc/X11/xorg.conf basically everything mentioned in threads in past two months regarding users who cannot get X to work reinstalling 100x with every choice for the installer I can think of
What happens: when doing the install, contrary to expectation, I am never prompted for any of the hardware information which the documentation at debian.org says I should have on hand (is that a good sign or a bad sign?)

There is a notifications-daemon, which shows sometimes infos like "5 updates, 5 security issues". It is represented by "i" in the system tray bar.Unfortunately, I cannot read the whole text of the messages there. I tried to click on it, right click, drag and what ever...Right now I have a line there "In order to complete this upgrade,...". And I cannot read it completely. Now I get system sounds and my other sounds, but now in most things (such as firefox and warcraft 3) the sound is choppy. I've tried SDB:AudioTroubleshooting - openSUSE and a couple other things I've googled but it's not working for me. I'd like to be able to fix it or at least go back to the way it was.

View 1 Replies View RelatedThis is Debian 8. Pulseaudio uses 44100hz by default, with 48000hz as the 'alternate sample rate'. The hda sound driver on this (and seems most) audio hardware supports 44100, 48000, 96000 and 192000 sample rates. Anything else, pulseaudio resamples it. High quality resampling settings use more cpu resources, so it's best to use one of the supported sample rates, when possible. This is done by default for 44100 and 48000, but if you want to use 96000, for example, you have to set it in /etc/pulse/daemon.conf as "alternate-sample-rate = 96000". But this causes 48000 audio to be resampled.
Pulseaudio log, 48000 stream gets resampled:
Code: Select allD: [pulseaudio] resampler.c: rate 48000 -> 96000 (method speex-float-10)
while 96000 stream is copied:
Code: Select allD: [pulseaudio] resampler.c: rate 96000 -> 96000 (method copy)
44100 and 48000 defaults make sense since this is the majority of audio content these days, but I do have some 96000hz audio. I know there were reasons why it was limited to one alternate, but I could get around the issues. So, is there a way to configure more than one alternate sample rate for pulse audio?
I prefer to use the single-click behavior under KDE 4.4.5 / Squeeze / AMD64. All KDE applications honor the single-click settings, but GTK-based applications don't. Is there a way to configure GTK so that all file dialogs are indeed single-click?
