For many moons I had no problem burning *.iso images on dvds on my Debian Lenny system.
I simply inserted a blank writable DVD disk into the burner followed the directions on the dialog window and it worked. Can't even remember the name of the software.
But, it's now stopped working.
1. I now get a small dialog that says "Blank DVD Inserted ... Make DVD."
2. I click on "Make DVD"
3. I get cd dvd creator. But window is blank; write to disk is grayed out-- as is "files... Browse Folders."
- This is not what I remember... and not all clear what to do next.
4. I tried installing K3B. But, it tells me it can't find a cd/dvd device on my system. But I have two a Sony DRX-830U connected through USB and generic installed on my system.
I burn a dvd with k3b or braseo and it says it completed the burn w/o error but when I go to put it back in to read it just keeps the read light on on the drive and wont read. I have tried to read the DVD on windows 7 as well and get the same result. I had this issue with Kubuntu 10.04 as well and wrote it off as a quirk of Kubuntu. Before that I had Gentoo installed for many years w/o issue. So I have a hard time believing that suddenly when I switch from Gentoo that I am having this problem with my drive.
The following is the dmesg |Tail from inserting a dvd burnt w/ k3b:
I'm trying to burn a DVD using k3b, and would like to access files from a shared network drive from a Windows machine. I can see the files in Nautilus from "Network Servers" and drilling down to the right directory, I can open the files no problem, but I can't get k3b to recognise them.
Firstly I can't navigate to the network drive from the file tree on the left in K3b.
If I drag and drop the files from Nautilus into k3b, it says "Problems while adding files to the project: No non-local files supported".
If I use Project -> Add Files I can then get to the network drives, but when I select and add the files it says "Remote files not accepted - You can only select local files".
In the end I had to copy all the files using Nautilus from the network share onto a USB stick, burn the DVD and then delete the files again. (I used the USB stick just to see if that counted as more "local" than a network share). Was there an easier / more efficient way to do this that I missed?
I tried four cdrs and I can't get my dvd rom or dvd-rw to list the contents even though k3b says it was successful. If I open k3b it see the cdr and say sessions 1 appendable yes. I burned the cdr as multisession. I can only view the contents of the cdr by doing a continue multisession while in k3b. I'm using squeeze and kde.
Debian and debian based distros issue has a issue that has come to make it self aware to me when I was trying to burn a video on my hard drive with braseo and it won't let me burn more than 4.4 gigs to a dvd with 4.7 gigs of free space even a file that is over the 4.4 gig limit by a megabyte with windows i didn't have this problem. One more thing I have 16 gig flash drive and on debian and debian based distros i can only use 13.1 gigs of it but on fedora I can use all 16 gigs.
I'M trying to copy or rip a cd to a .iso file using Nero linux 4 and it just stops at 88%.I have also used brasero and the same thing happens when i right click in nautilus it only rips so far then stop's.Looking on Nero's websites the only dependencies that i don't have is Glibc 2.3.6.I have libglibc 2.24.1. and i can't find 2.3.6 to download.Does anyone know why i can't rip or copy the cd anyway i try to.Maybe it's a dependencies problem but i don't the what dependencies need to be installed.
I have not been able to write to DVDs since the install except for once when luck seemed to play more a part than anything else. Does anyone have a fix for this?Well, after letting it sit and sit and sit, it looks like it does write the data. But, it's writing about 1/2 of a DVD for just 2 500K files.
I installed K3B 2 today on opensuse 11.2, hoping that something may have been done to make it burn disks, I've had these problems since opensuse 11.0.
When I try to burn a cdrw disk it usually fails with the error that the cd drive doesn't like the disk, if I try and expensive disk I sometimes get the same error, but if it does burn successfully and I put the disk back in the drive all I've got is a blank disk which won't take a 2nd burn.
I've tried DVDRWs and as soon as I click burn K3B decides the blank disk needs formatting and this then fails and keeps failing nomatter what I do. If I choose the ignore option for the speed when formatting it seems to format the disk then it takes between 1 & 3 attempts to burn the dissk.
I am trying to burn a an ISO file to dvd with Brasero but failling each time. I have spoiled 3 DVD's but no success. The drive is able to read without any problem. I have attached the error log.
I have a stereo in my office. Its really a DVD player that will also play CD's. It has a nice surround sound setup. I have a bunch of mp3's on my computer that I would like to burn to a blank DVD that I have and play one long continuous DVD audio CD. Is this possible and if so, how do I do this? I have search for three days, and have come up empty.
i have a AVI file and i use DEVEDE and click on the first one "video dvd" then add file (i go it it and click on the file) setup ntsc then advanced options create iso ready to burn to disk click forward asks me where i want to put it (i use default) then after a while i have an iso file there --- to burn i just click and drag that iso file to a blank dvd and it burn it i have also tried K3B after i have my iso file i open k3b and use all defalt settings and burn it and i get the same results wrong disk when i put it in my dvd player.
running lucid and whatever updates are current.Im attempting to burn a avi to dvd format with brasero, but when i hit "burn" brasero sais "ejecting disc" and says that an internal error has occurred. the saved log is blank.any thoughts? i have dvd author and the error message doesnt appear until the disc has ejected. but really it should not be ejecting if it is going to perform a burn.
I have MP3 files and CUE files. I've tried unsuccessfully to burn a traditional audio CD from them using Brasero (burn image file, point to CUE, it acts like it will, then gives errors). I've searched all over Google and the Ubuntu Forums.
I often use dvdbackup to mirror dvd's to my harddrive. I used to use k3b to burn them to disks. The problem is I no longer use kde, and I realy hate installing kde apps these days, since they seem totaly bloated. Brassero isn't smart enough to take a directory with a dvd's file structure mirrored into it, and burn this as a video dvd. Is there a way to convert such a directory into an iso from the command line so brassero can handle it?
My Dad who I have just gotten on to Ubuntu is wanting to burn some some avi videos onto a DVD, but wants them in a DVD format though so that he can play them on any type of dvd player. I got him to install k3b and try that but as I've never had to do this I'm not sure my self how to do it so this leads me to ask;
I want to burn a movie to a dvd but the problem is that this movie is in the .avi format. Is it possible to burn a .avi file to a dvd. Also tell me how to get this to work. are you familiar with any program which will help me in this matter. Please suggest a suitable burner application.
I've just bought a DVD player that supports Xvid format, so I can play my .avi files on it, but I cant get it to burn to a DVD. Would I just burn it as a data dvd? I don't want to turn it into .vob files after buying the dvd so it can specifically play the .avi files, really.
I just got a video file that's .mkv and I need to find a way to burn it to a DVD to be able to play it on any dvd player. I need subtitles to remain too
I've got an iso of a bootable dvd. I can mount it and look at the files. I want to burn the iso to a new bootable DVD except I don't want all of the files on the original to go to the new DVD
I have a problem while burning a CD-Extra (audio+data in two seperate sessions) in k3b 1.68.0~alpha3-0ub on Karmic. The audio tracks are being burned and the session is closed, but k3b does not start burning the second session. There is the last status message in the log: "Searching previous session" and one near the progress bar: "Closing session". Normally it should close the audio session, eject the burner for resetting his state and begin burning the second session. But in fact it just stops, instead of burning the second session. My only option is to cancel.
I already tried to add -eject into the user options of wodim/cdrecord. It ejects, but it didn't help. The first (audio-)session nevertheless is correctly burned, only the second (data-)session is missing. I tried to switch the writing app to cdrdao (option in k3b), but in this mode k3b dies with a segmentation fault. Only "auto" or "cdrecord" mode works. (In fact "auto" chooses cdrecord). There doesn't seem to be a different version of k3b available in synaptic to try out. I switched over from gentoo, where k3b worked. Unfortunately I cannot remember the exact version of k3b in gentoo. The system was approx. 1 year old.
PS: Is there a native Gnome/GTK app that does CD-Extra? Brasero and GnomeBaker do not support it yet.
Used DeVeDe to take a Avi that was 700mb which is now a 2gb iso file which will open fine with VLC player with the custom menu I made and the movie plays fine but K3b will not burn the to the media and I tried several blank disk of the same media now and no luck. I don't have any other media to try but this same media worked fine with K3b before and recent so I don't know but I never tried it using it like this before meaning with DeVeDe.
A severe problem with Rhythmbox. You cannot burn playlist. I've looked at bug reports and they just give you the run around. Nothing in the forums except to go to something else. That is no solution to the problem. I can't believe this problem is being ignored. Nothing comes up on search.how these applications got so screwed up from one version to the other and what the cure is?
