Debian :: How To Upgrade MySQL From 5.0.51 To 5.1

Aug 23, 2010

I have 5.0.51 on my development box, which just happens to be the one release not supported by my CMS software. I have messed with a few attempts to upgrade, but I don't know what I'm doing in that regard. Fortunately I have a virtual machine for testing.

Ubuntu :: Mysql Will Not Start - Upgrade To Lucid

I cannot get mysql to start since updating to Lucid. It seems to be utterly silent, no log entries anywhere I can see or anything.

I've tried reinstalling the ubuntu install to no avail.

Here's the /etc/mysql/my.cnf:

(default from upgrade I suspect) this is also the debian.cnf

Code:
# Automatically generated for Debian scripts. DO NOT TOUCH!

user = debian-sys-maint

[Code].....

I'm just getting utterly nothing in any log.

root@linuxbox:/etc/mysql# sudo start mysql
start: Job is already running: mysql

but there isn't! top/ps show nothing at all

root@linuxbox:/etc/mysql# sudo restart mysql (or stopping) just sit there, hung on something.

General :: MySQL / PhpMyAdmin Upgrade To A Later 4.0 Or 4.1 Version?

Feb 1, 2010

I'm totally new to MySQL / PHPAdmin and have been dropped in at the deep end regarding getting MySQL and phpMyAdmin upgraded... When I look at the RPM's I see:

php-mysql-4.2.2-17.2
php-4.2.2-17.2
php-imap-4.2.2-17.2
php-ldap-4.2.2-17.2

But when I go to the GUI I see: Welcome to phpMyAdmin 2.5.7-pl1 MySQL 4.0.16-standard-log running on localhost as root@localhost So to start with I'm not totally sure what version I'm running! I need to get these upgrades done due to PCI requirements so they are saying to upgrade to at least 4.0.25 I'm currently running RedHat9 so ideally need to know the easiest way to upgrade to a later 4.0 or 4.1 version.

Server :: Postfix Standalone To Mysql Upgrade?

Feb 16, 2011

I did a basic U9.10 server install of postfix with the minimal config. Added a test user and things worked after a few minutes. I now want to setup a few new things and want to switch to use mysql as the back-end. I have mysql installed, setup postfix.admin which in turn setup the database/tables. Now when I logged in to that admin, the original test user is not there (which is fine), but I created the test domain again, created a user and an outside test failed saying user unknown.

Now I looked through the main.cf page and don't see anything obvious to say hey, put backend is mysql, here is the info. I then noticed via apt that postfix-mysql was not installed, so installed that, I see my .cf was backed up, but still don't see anywhere to connect the 2. So currently mail is still accepted from the test1 user running local. I don't mind wiping everyhing, but is there a simple place to just make a change or 2?

Ubuntu Installation :: 10.04 Upgrade - MySQL 5.1 Does Not Want To Start Or Stop

Apr 30, 2010

I upgraded from Kubuntu 9.10 to 10.04. 32 bit. The install had not finished as it barked at tripwire config. I have had to stop it and continue from command prompt. More or less the install went OK. After the install, mysql 5.1 does not want to start or stop. Commands
/etc/init.d/mysql stop ( or 'stop mysql' , or service mysql stop' )
/etc/init.d/mysql start

Do not finish - do not return to command prompt. No log messages insyslog or mysql logs. Say, I do 'service mysql start', the command does not return, I click Ctrl+C, then repeat the command. This displays :
'start: Job is already running: mysql'.
Of course mysql is not running. I've tried to remove and reinstall the packages. No result. There is 'stop mysql' command in one of install scripts that hangs.

Ubuntu :: Determine Version And Upgrade Php/mysql With Plesk

Sep 24, 2010

I am trying to determine which version of Ubuntu we have installed on our Webfusion VPS in order to see how to update to specific php and mysql versions needed for installing some software.

uname -a gives this:

Linux [hostname] 2.6.18-028stab070.2 #1 SMP Tue Jul 6 14:34:09 MSD 2010 x86_64 GNU/Linux

I don't see anything that matches up to any of the Ubuntu releases. Is there any other way to determine what we have?

We have Plesk 9.5.2 on the machine.

Certain software we need to install requires PHP 5.2.10+ and Mysql 5.2+ but we currently have PHP 5.2.4-2ubuntu5.12 with Suhosin-Patch 0.9.6.2 and Ver 14.12 Distrib 5.0.51a

how to get the required versions of php and mysql (without breaking Plesk)? I tried editing /etc/apt/sources.list to add a new repository and using apt-get upgrade php but I probably did not add the correct repository.

Ubuntu Installation :: MySQL Failed After Upgrade To 9.10 Desktop In 64bit

Apr 11, 2010

I've just upgraded my 9.4 to 9.10 on my 64bit desktop PC. Shortly afterwards I noticed that MySQL had gone away. There was no mysqld running. I tried a restart to no effect. So tried an un-install and re-install with the Package Manager. This failed! There was quite an extensive message in details, which started:-

invoke-rc.d initscript mysql, action "start" failed
dpkg: error processing mysql-server-5.1 (--configure):
subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1
dpkg: dependency problems prevent prevent configuration of mysql-server

And it goes on, but that's the essence of it. I subsequently tried a complete removal and re-install, to no avail.I notice that /var/log/messages contains:

Ubuntu Installation :: Lucid Upgrade Hangs When Upgrading MySQL Server

May 2, 2010

When this happens you have to open a terminal, get the process id for mysql-server-5 then kill that process. Like this:
Code:
ps -A
then from the list of processes that it spits out look at the process id (the number at the beginning of the line) for mysql-server-5.

Now type
Code:
sudo kill -9 XXXXX
where XXXXX is the process id for mysql-server, and enter your password. The upgrade process should now resume.

Ubuntu Servers :: Can't Reinstall Mysql-server After Power Failure During Aptitude Safe-upgrade

Jun 2, 2010

A week or so ago I ran an aptitude safe-upgrade and while it was updating mysql I suffered a power-failure. Now, this never really happens in Holland but of course this once it happened at the worst possible time.

I've tried a lot of different things to get mysql working again, but am running into all kinds of problems. First mysql won't shut off properly (it does startup with the computer but I can't connect to it at all) during an aptitude purge. If I kill the process mysql seems to purge properly, but I guess this is not the case because I wasn't able to install it then.

Things seem to have gone a bit more smoothly this time, however:

Code:
snek@snek-server:~$ sudo aptitude install mysql-server

Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done

Debian :: FreeRADIUS MySQL Authentication

Apr 8, 2015

I'm currently trying to set up FreeRADIUS with DaloRADIUS and I'm stuck at FreeRADIUS getting clients (as NAS-es) from the MySQL database.

FreeRADIUS will no longer start after uncommenting the following line in my /etc/freeradius/sql.conf (which is supposed to let it use the MySQL database):

Code: Select allreadclients = yes

I have ran "freeradius -X" to find out what's going on with this output:

Code: Select allrlm_sql (sql): Driver rlm_sql_mysql (module rlm_sql_mysql) loaded and linked
rlm_sql (sql): Attempting to connect to radius@localhost:/radius
rlm_sql (sql): starting 0
rlm_sql (sql): Attempting to connect rlm_sql_mysql #0
rlm_sql_mysql: Starting connect to MySQL server for #0

[Code] ....

So it seems that the radius user is not authenticated. However I have verified that the login details I entered in my sql.conf are the correct ones (I even tried manually logging in with them and it worked).
