I have a Logitech G11 keyboard with additional function keys from G1 to G18 and I added those keys to my XKeysymDB and ~/.xmodmaprc accordingly. According to xev, all those keys are working properly, eg.:
$ xev
...
KeyPress event, serial 35, synthetic NO, window 0x3400001,
root 0x15d, subw 0x0, time 3518287, (167,-33), root:(1501,366),
state 0x10, keycode 175 (keysym 0x15000001, G1), same_screen YES,
XLookupString gives 0 bytes:
XmbLookupString gives 0 bytes:
XFilterEvent returns: False
Now, if I try to bind any of those keys to global shortcuts in KDE I got a dialog telling: "The key you just pressed is not supported by Qt." these keys were working perfectly well in Lenny and KDE 3.5. I did some research, and it really seems that this is a some kind of "feature" in KDE 4.2 or Qt. So, is there any way to fix this easily in Squeeze without switching to Wheezy or even Sid?

enables a full screen mode in Gnome. I was previously able to do this via the KDE menu. The main purpose for this, was to get mplayer working in full screen mode when watching my media links. I am now unable to do this since switching to gnome.

I refrained from posting this in the Kernel Vulns thread earlier, due to its zero-day status. But now that the issue has been Slashdotted, there's no use in keeping us from publicly discussing this vulnerability. The link to the article (from which I quote below) is here. Brad Spengler's original announcement on the Dailydave mailing list is here.Quote:A researcher has published exploit code for a new vulnerability he discovered in the Linux kernel. The vulnerability is an especially interesting one in that the researcher who discovered it, Brad Spengler, has demonstrated that he can use the weakness to defeat many of the add-on security protections offered by SELinux and AppArmor.

I recently got VMC and cant get it to work on my OS, tried searching everywhere but only can find help with I386 OS which I believe is for 32bit machines because I got this message "Error: Dependency is not satisfiable: ozerocdoff" when I tried to install software. One site had links to some sort of drivers, but the pages are invalid and wont load. Is there any software/drivers that can enable me to use VMC on my 64bit machine or must I continue having to revert back to windows? If so could someone please add links?

I have two major issues, and one minor one, after I started using Ubuntu, I tried searching the forum for them, but couldn't find anything relevant to my problems.First issue: Screenshots and the cursor.This is probably a very easily fixed issue, but none-the-less, I can not figure it out.How do I NOT include the cursor in my screenshots on Ubuntu 9.10?What I do is, I press the Prt Scrn button, and my cursor is always there in the image, and I don't want that.Second is pidgin.I love it, but every time I boot it up, my friendly name is reverted back to firefoxfag.I think it has something to do with me using gmail for msn, but I'm not sure...Also, as a last very small issue, the global hotkeys on audacious don't respond unless i open preferences, open settings for global hotkeys, then close down the settings..

Booting up fails with code 126. I am greeted with the following error everyime I start up.
Checking root file system.../etc/rcS.d/S10checkroot.sh: line 174: /sbin/logsave: Permission denied
failed (code 126).
It then says an automatic fsck failed and a manual fsck must be performed, then the system restarted. I have done a manual fsck and it did nothing. I booted up the system with knoppix and did it, nothing.

I recently switched from windows xp to ubuntu and have been very impressed so far. However, I've run into a bit of a problem. My laptop has a switch on the side that enables or disables the wireless card and every now and again its inevitable that someone accidentally switches it off. When I had windows xp all you had to do to re-enable it was to go to the device manager and turn it back on however ubuntu apparently doesn't have a device manager. so I need help. my wireless card info is05:00.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 3945ABG [Golan] Network Connection (rev 02)

Lately when I've tried to update my packages many of them don't update. I get nothing out of the ordinary when using the terminal but when I try to update via the Update manger I get this error message:
Code:

I've tried several different mirrors but get the same error with every one. Same result with ftp as well. Yesterday I upgraded to Wheezy and every package successfully upgraded, but today the problem started again.

Does anyone here have experience with using the Debian Live Builder from HERE? Every time I attempt a build, it fails. I thought it strange that it didn't let me select 'amd64' under 'LB_ARCHITECTURE', 'testing' under 'LB_DISTRIBUTION', or multiple options under 'LB_LINUX_FLAVOURS'. Does anyone see what I might have done wrong?

LB_BINARY_IMAGES="iso-hybrid"
LB_DISTRIBUTION="sid"
LB_PACKAGES_LISTS="minimal"
LB_TASKS=""
LB_PACKAGES="dpkg aptitude wget wvdial ppp sudo"

I have bunch of partitions on my Debian server installation, so I was experimenting with partitions and saw that is one partition fails fsck on booting time, system waits for root password or CTRL+D key combination. The problem is that my Debian machine is headless and I use only SSH to it. So if fsck fails, I can't to login to SSH (off course, because it is not loaded at this time). So I need to go with monitor and keyboard to machine and press CTRL+D.One option is to disable disk checking at startup by changing fstab file. I don't like this option. Is there any possibility to auto continue booting Debian machine ?

I would like to have a global equalizer in KDE. I have done a bit of searching and didn't find anything that looked promising. It looks easy with ubuntu since it uses Pulse audio. I actually installed pulse audio and it seems to have somewhat integrated lol but I can't find an equalizer to see if it works.

Using KDE 4.6+, I'd like to have a predefined set of hotkeys for all users of the computer. E.g. the "XF86Calculator"-key starting "kcalc" as a default for all users without everyone being forced to deal with the absolutely messy and un-intuitive KDE hotkey configuration. Is there a way to do that? Preferably something like an "*.desktop"-file in /usr/local in order to be consistent with the rest of the system.

I'm looking for the file in which global keybindings are set for Gnote. The man page claims they are stored in gconf --> '/apps/gnote/global_keybindings/open_start_here', /apps /gnote/global_keybindings/show_note_ menu'
I have a ~/.gconf/apps/gnote directory, but no files to set the individual keybindings. The keybindings work and can be set from within gnote, so i know they have to be somewhere on my system. Anyone have any ideas where I might look? I'm using Openbox on a Karmic command line install. I have no gconf-editor, and gnote looks to be the only program installed that uses gconf.

I actually like some aspects of the global menu, but the reality is that a better solution for non-maximized windows is to just have the menu in the titlebar, and have title hide when you hover over it to reveal the menu, just like it does for maximized windows. You aren't losing any screen space with this solution.Having to click on a window, then go all the way back to the top left of the screen is hardly a convenience, especially when using a touchpad.
