Debian :: Evolution Broken - Subprocess Paste Killed By Signal

Nov 30, 2010

Whenever I try to do anything in synaptic, apt-get, or aptitude I get error msg
dpkg: error processing /var/cache/apt/archives/evolution-common2.30.3-5_all.deb
(--unpack): failed in write on buffer copy for backend dpkg-deb during './usr/share/gnome/help/evolution/c/figures/evo_labels_a.png':No space left on device
configured to not write apport reports
dpkg-deb: subprocess paste killed by signal (Broken pipe)

This is from synaptic
E: /var/cache/apt/archives/evolution-common_2.30.3-5_all.deb: failed in write on buffer copy for backend dpkg-deb during `./usr/share/gnome/help/evolution/el/figures/evo_attachreminder_plugin.png'
I have also been getting /usr/ full notifications. I have tried to remove files but after I reboot they are still there.

Debian Multimedia :: Can't Paste In Evolution Mail Compose Box

Dec 16, 2010

After installing Epiphany and Evolution, I am unable to paste any text into Evolution compose box and gnome-terminal. Neither Ctrl+V nor Rightclick>>Paste work. However, middle-mouse button click pastes text.

I am on Debian Squeeze.

PS: I am sure Ctrl+V doesn't work in gnome-terminal, but rightclick>>paste should work. And in evolution compose box both Ctrl+V and rightclick>>paste should work.

Ubuntu :: Plymouth Main Process Killed By SEGV Signal?

Apr 20, 2011

I just installed Ubuntu on a Cr-48 netbook, which has an odd custom bios which can't boot regular bootloaders/kernelsI'm therefore using the existing kernel on the machine rather than the Ubuntu one, with no initrd/initramfs, just booting directly to the Ubuntu root filesystem.t's just a minimal text mode install right now, from the alternate installerAt boot time, plymouth crashes. It doesn't seem to actually affect the system, everything still boots just fine, but it doesn't seem like it should be doing that I get:

Code:

init: plymouth main process (70) killed by SEGV signal

Ubuntu :: Unable To Boot: Init: Plymouth Main Process (57) Killed By SEGV Signal

May 2, 2011

I upgraded from Ubuntu 10.0.4 to 11.0.4 on a Dell Optiplex. Now, when I boot, I am given the option to boot into different kernels. I select "ubuntu, with Linux 2.6.38-8-generic", which results in a black screen that reads

Code:

init: plymouth main process (58) killed by SEGV signal and that's where it hangs. Pressing ENTER or hitting Esc does nothing. What steps can I take to recover my machine and all the files I used to have on it?

Ubuntu :: Mouse Copy And Paste Broken Since Last Update

Jan 4, 2010

I started having some serious issues with my mouse after running updates yesterday. I am basically unable to copy and paste any text and this is making editing essays a major major major PITA! Basically when I click and drag my mouse to copy, the highlight looks good until I unclick then nothing is highlighted. Even trying to double click on words to highlight single words results in the entire paragraph being hightlighted. For my two laptops running 9.10 I have to disable the touchpad, I prefer a usb mouse, after logging in, but if leave the touchpad enabled the problem still exists.

This problem only showed up yesterday, after the update as best I can tell, and disabling my touchpad for like the past 4 or 5 releases, including 9.10. I run xubu/xfce4, but I have booted into Gnome and its the exact same problem. I have the problem on two laptops, both running 9.10, and both were updated yesterday. This is not one of those childish "that's it I am going back to winblowz, Linux suxorz!" , but I will have to temporarily go back and use MS Office until I can find out what is wrong here, b/c I gotta get essays written and without being able to copy text it is very rudimentary.

Ubuntu :: Evolution Spell Check Broken?

Jan 12, 2011

Sometime earlier this week, after an Update Manager update, spell check in Evolution broke.

It started underlining all words, even simple ones like "the".

I Googled around and found this article: [URL]

First, I did as recommended: 'Then go to "Edit | Preferences | Composer Preferences | Spell Checking", and enable the available languages." I found a list of languages and found that the USA version of English was enabled.

It then says, "You can also check gnome-enabled dictionaries by using gconf-editor. The GConf key /GNOME/Spell/language should contain a space-separated list of the languages you have enabled (i.e. en-US es for US english and Spanish)."

No such key found in GConf.

I followed the next instruction ("you could also try the hard way: Shut Evolution down by closing Evolution and then using the command evolution --force-shutdown. After that, run gconftool-2 --unset /GNOME/Spell/mtime.") which I did, gfcontool-2 --unset /GNOME/Spell/mtime returned with no error or comment.

But now, spell check isn't working at all, even misspelled words are not flagged, and "Edit | Preferences | Composer Preferences | Spell Checking" shows no languages to select from.

Finally, the instructions say, "If all this does not help, remove the file $HOME/.gconf/GNOME/Spell/%gconf.xml so all your spellchecking settings get deleted. The file gets recreated and according to some users on the Evolution mailing list, spellchecking should work again"

I found no "Spell" directory under "$HOME/.gconf"

I'm not a terrible speller, but do miss the okashunal werd, so having the spell checker working again would be useful.

Ubuntu :: Boot Broken And Evolution Mail Stranded

Running HP with 64 kbit AMD. Have upgraded to 10.04 and everything was good. Then I got the bright idea to use a live disk of 9.04 to create a working bootable flash drive (not a live iso). Now that it is done, the grub loader fails with error 21 and the flash drive goes to la-la land on bootup. All my data was backed up except the mail system. So can the grub loader be repaired or can the evolution files be off loaded using a live disk?

Debian :: Upgrades Killed Dri And Auto-shutoff?

Jan 5, 2010

Back when I was using Sarge, my machine could shut itself off when I halted it. However, I think due to some alleged security issues with my hardware, newer versions of Debian don't allow this. So, I have to manually shut it off after halting the computer. My computer is a Dell Optiplex GX1 PIII450 with 386 MB RAM.

Also, it has a 6MB mach64 video card (01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc 3D Rage Pro AGP 1X/2X (rev 5c)), that, back in the Sarge days, I could enable direct rendering with mach64-20060403-linux.i386 DRI. This no longer works given the changes in Debian. So, no planetpenguin-racer for me any longer.

Besides buying new hardware, is there a way to fix either (or both) of these issues? They both were fine in previous incarnations of Debian, but alas, are now casualties of the upgrades.

Debian Installation :: LUKS On Root Killed By Apt-get Update

Sep 24, 2015

Root LUKS to be broken by apt-get update? This did happen to me on 3 different laptops, both on previous install (from Debian 8.0), and also on clean installs (Debian 8.1), repeatedly.

When I reboot, grub starts, but then it cannot find the root file system (I end up with the emergency console).

Code: Select allLoading Linux 3.16.0-4-amd64 ...
Loading initial ramdisk ...
Loading, please wait...
[many seconds waiting]
ALERT! /dev/mapper/sda2_crypt does not exists.
modprobe: modprobe ehci-orion not found in modules.dep

This is the most simple, clean, conservative install ever, no closed driver.

But LUKS on the root file system:

Code: Select allone ext4 partition on /boot
one ext4 partition on / (trough LUKS, all defaults)

There is no LVM.

All the 3 laptops killed at different time, when updating. Clean install is fine until the first update.

Booting on the rescue system allows me to see everything.

Code: Select all$ update-grub
Generating grub configuration file ...
Found background image: /usr/share/images/desktop-base/desktop-grub.png
Found linux image: /boot/vmlinuz-3.16.0-4-amd64
Found initrd image: /boot/initrd.img-3.16.0-4-amd64
No volume groups found

How can I recover from this?

Debian Configuration :: Squeeze Update Killed KDE4?

May 17, 2010

I updated today and naturally removed the old nVidia driver, compiled it again after a reboot, and then rebooted again for good measure. I can log into KDE4, but all I get is a cursor and a solid black background. I deleted the ~/.kde, ~/.local, and quite a few other directories from my normal user account using the shell so KDE would reconfigure my settings when I logged in again, but it's the same problem. I went into ~/.kde/share/config/kwinrc and added the "Compositing" section with "Enabled=false" to rule out compositing. Now when I log into the system I get the default KDE4 wallpaper and a mouse cursor, but nothing else. I believe the latest update broke KDE4, or am I missing something? I have recreated my xorg.conf as well, and only set it to use the nVidia driver. So what can I do now?

And it just won`t run. The update included updates for Cairo Dock and it`s plugins, which it seems have all updated correctly and package manager says every available plugin IS installed as it was before, what I can do to correct this annoying issue?

However I failed to hold those packages so I suspect a subsequent upgrade undid all that work. Now what is happening is that I do not have X starting at all. These are the relevant nvidia, mesa and xserver files installed

Debian Programming :: Serial Port Signal Handler

Jan 14, 2015

Basically I'm intending to write serial RX signal handler.Application receives defined packages of data over serial which contains header and payload. Handler should analyse incoming stream and upon detection of header (header is 6B in length) switches to receive payload of length defined in header, then after receiving full message packs it and sends to application for handling.Problem I'm facing is that at random moments in signal I receive errors that "Resource temporarily unavailable" while reading from ttyOx device and I see that sometimes I miss incoming data. Also is it possible that if while I'm handling signal one more signal arrives and it is started to be handled parallel? If it is, what are the ways to prevent it? So I would be sure that no more signals will fire on same peripheral until I will finish handling what I have on my hands now.

Serial open and init:
Code: Select allint open_port(int port_nr) {
int fd; /* File descriptor for the port */
    switch (port_nr) {
    case 1:
        fd = open("/dev/ttyO1", O_RDWR | O_NOCTTY | O_NDELAY);
