Debian Configuration :: Rigger A Script When An Email Is Received To Update MySQL Database?

Feb 10, 2010

how to trigger a script when an email is received to update my mySQL database. I do not want to physically send the message to the script, I just want the script to execute and to under execute under a specific mail account.

I thought of setting up a cron job at first, but decided going down that approach would be a huge waste of resources. What method would you recommend?

Software :: Cannot Get Php Script To UPDATE Mysql Database

Apr 11, 2011

I'm having problems with my coding. Here is the problem: I have a database with a list of products. I can list all the products OK At the side of each product I have an EDIT and DELETE button. The delete button works fine and deletes the item. The EDIT button displays a form with all the details from the database. I can then edit this form and click on UPDATE. This is the code that I have to update the database:

$group = $_REQUEST['group'];
$description = $_REQUEST['description'];
$quantity = $_REQUEST['quantity'];
$price = $_REQUEST['price'];
$type = $_REQUEST['type'];
$type2 = $_REQUEST['type2'];
$order = $_REQUEST['order'];
$status = $_REQUEST['status'];
....

I cannot see anything wrong with this code. But when I click on UPDATE (in the form), I get Error in executing UPDATE exhausts SET group = 'Alloy Silencers', description = 'RS 125 Aprilia', quantity = '1', price = '57.00', type = 'alloy', type2 = 'all', order = '', status = '1' WHERE id = '3' query

error:1064 You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near 'group = 'Alloy Silencers', description = 'RS 125 Aprilia', quantity = '1', price' at line 1I have used this code many time before in other projects without problems.

Debian Programming :: HTML5 To Access MYSQL Database

Jul 24, 2013

I have a MySQL database running on my local server, which I currently access via laptop, desktop using HTML/PHP.I want to re-write in HTML5, I have gone through a couple of HTML5 tutorials but cannot figure out the database interface. The best match I can find is Server-Sent Events, is this the best way forward? What about writing to the database? I have found several suggestions using Web SQL database but I don't think this is suitable as my database is also accessed from Python code on the server.

Programming :: Doing SQL Stuff From Received Email Messages

Apr 25, 2009

I was wondering if you could recommend a simple way to achieve functionality where received email messages are automatically processed and used in SQL commands (depending on certain criteria, of course). For example, say I have made a PHP-based blog application and it's located at example.com and I'd like to give members the option of posting to their blogs by sending email to a special @example.com address. The email messages received there will be inserted into a database depending on the sender's address, with the body becoming the post and the subject line becoming the post's title, etc.

Another example could be how those trouble ticket systems let customers submit tickets via email, while the support agents operate via a database-driven Web application. Is this the type of thing one must code from scratch, or is there an open source solution out there which only needs to be configured accordingly?

Debian Configuration :: ProFTPd Configuration - Use To Host MySQL Databases And A Few Websites

Nov 18, 2010

I am having no luck configuring ProFTPd on a Debian Lenny production server we use to host our MySQL databases and a few websites. I had originally set it up so I could login and manage our internal sites, but I have the need to allow a few clients in to access their sites that we host. I am trying to root the users in their site directory, which would be "/sites/www.whatever.com/".

It just hit me while typing this. Is it possible to create a user without a shell to prevent login via SSH and set the home folder to /sites/whatever instead of /home/username? That would allow me to continue operating with my current configuration and root them in their site while preventing SSH logins.

Server :: Configure Sendmail As Forwarder For All Received Email?

May 4, 2011

So I have two servers in my environment, I have an app server that runs my Java App on it and then I have a utility server. Right now, I have that utility server acting as a simple mail gateway so when my app server needs to send an e-mail out, it forwards it to the utility server and the utility server sends it out to where-ever it's destined to. The Java server always sends as one specific user, let's call it bob@company.com.

This set-up is working just fine right now. Now, I also have my company.com e-mail hosted at an e-mail provider for all of my user's e-mail accounts and such. I also have a bob@company.com e-mail account so if e-mails ever bounce, they end up in this inbox. Again, this works fine.

My app is pretty email dumb so it can't authenticate itself or anything, that's why I am using sendmail on my utility server instead of my e-mail provider's SMTP server. What I would like to do is to configure sendmail to forward all outbound e-mails (and authenticate) to my e-mail provider's SMTP gateway using the bob@company.com account and credentials. Is it possible to configure sendmail to do this?

Debian Configuration :: New Router, Now "no DHCPOFFERS Received"?

Oct 22, 2010

I'm getting some odd behavior from a new router (netgear wg614 i believe). It appears that it won't assign an IP address to any machine running linux, but it WILL assign an IP address just fine to windows machines. my laptop is running debian lenny, but it isn't just my laptop - other linux (or linux based) machines can't get an IP address from it, either (including my wii). yet my old windows desktop gets an IP address just fine, as do my friend's windows laptops. i did not have this problem with my old router. nor do i have this problem when i bring my laptop other places. i have this problem ONLY with this new router.

the workaround is to assign a static IP address to my laptop and my wii, which is fine, but... i still want to get to the bottom of it. my laptop is definitely associated with the router (iwconfig output confirms this), so it's not a problem with the card or the driver (right?). i can log into the router administration from my laptop. the router just won't give it an IP address. how can this be? considering:-the only thing that has changed is the router-the problem occurs with all non-windows machines-my laptop and wii both worked fine with my old router (and others), and the settings have not changed.so, is there something fundamentally different about how linux and windows request an IP address from a DHCP server? My knowledge of both linux and DHCP are "medium", and they don't overlap enough for me to figure this out, i guess.

Debian Configuration :: Apache Reverse Proxy - No Support For Common Database

Apr 14, 2010

I installed apache2 and mysql database on a Debian system. It is using reverse proxy on apache to redirect requests to apache2 running on any machine which is on Xen server as a Virtual host. I tried to install Drupal on it. Every thing went fine till I pointed my browser to:
http://IP of LAN where Drupal was installed/drupal
then I see an installation page of Drupal which welcomes me. I click install in English then it can not proceed to connect with database. Database configuration: Your web server does not appear to support any common database types. Check with your hosting provider to see if they offer any databases that Drupal supports.

I have created a database and username for Drupal separately. What should I check to. There is one more error

Debian Configuration :: Phpmyadmin Accessing Mysql On Debian Webserver?

I first had an old reflex, jumping straight away and installing xampp. But then I thought that I already all that it takes as I installed the webserver feature of debian. I installed phpmyadmin ( with the command #apt-get install phpmyadmin) as to be able to create and attribute databases but when I try to log in I have the following message:

"Error

I googled but I cannot find the mysql.conf (I searched using "find") but with no result. It is all very blury what is going on with this webserver option running on my laptop...

Debian Configuration :: Why Does /etc/aliases Choke On Email Addresses

Dec 21, 2010

Related to my last post in that it is another email issue, but something else I am having a problem with.

Debian Lenny on virtual KVM (32-bit, v5.0.7)

With Postfix it is necessary to have an alias for root, eg: root: someuser

In theory, and as far as I am aware, this can also be something like: root: someone@someaddress.tld

When I use the latter, though, the following happens whenever my system tries to redirect root email messages, but not when I use the root: someuser method in the aliases file (and, yes, I do know to use newaliases after amending the file).

The firewall is not an issue (tested with and without the firewall), nor are the resolvers, and the DNS for accounts on the box is all okay and fully propagated. Also, changing the email address to something like this.address@google.com does not work, either, - same error message.

Debian Configuration :: Can't Send Email From Command Line Using Mail

Mar 17, 2010

I'm running a desktop-less version of Debian via Sun VirtualBox. The reason I'm doing this is because I don't have enough graphics or RAM power to have a desktop environment running on top of my current desktop; also, I want to learn Linux through the command prompt. I'm running the AMD64 version of Debian; I'm not sure if that's relevant.

My main goal is to be able to email useful files from the virtual Debian to my main computer, so that I can save them for later if I ever decide to do a "real" installation of Debian on this computer. I realize now that there's probably some "easy" way to do this by reading the virtual machine's hard drive, but at this point, my curiosity wants to see this issue resolved. I started off wanting to find a command-line program to send my email with, and one was built-in. The syntax ~$ sudo mail -s "Subject" email@yahoo.com "This is a test email."

C^D
Cc:C^D ~$

is what I found. I tried it, and (unsurprisingly), it failed. I then learned that the mail command calls exim4, or something along those lines, so I needed to configure exim4. Soon thereafter, I learned that Yahoo's SMTP wasn't public, but Google's was. So, I found this web page which described how to configure exim4 to allow for email to be sent to a Gmail account. I made one, and followed the page word-for-word.

I sudo-mailled a test email to my Gmail account, and nothing happened. I waited a bit longer, and still, nothing happened. Finally, I started looking around, and found out about the exim4 logs in /var/log/exim4. In my mainlog, I think that it's telling me that Google denied my connection: <date><time><random numbers and letters> == **********.gmail.com R=send_via_gmail t=gmail_smtp defer (111): Connection refused

So, now, I'm just stuck. I don't know what I did wrong, I checked my exim4.conf.template twice for spelling errors, but I don't think I made any. At this point, I can only hope that someone else has had a similar problem, or knows what I'm doing wrong (or haven't done yet).
