Is it possible to install Firefox xpi extensions into Konqueror? I can't find anything about this. All I can determine is that this xpi is a compressed directory with javascript and config files.

I am wondering the "new way" to install firefox extensions for all users.
From [URL] we can see that the "old way" is no longer available.

I would like to start using Firefox 4.X beta and I read it was possible to install extensions such as Ad Block and No Script . What I would like is step by step instructions on how to add these currently non compatible extensions.

I click on the extension and it shows a button that I can turn ON or OFF. It's OFF by default. Then I click it, it turns ON and I'm asked if I want to download and install that extension. I say Yes! But then nothing happens. If I visit "Installed extensions" session, it says there are no extensions installed. And if I refresh the extension page, the ON button becomes OFF again. No matter how many times I try to do this, the result is the same. I tryed it with Iceweasel (v. 24.2.0) and Google Chrome (v. 32.0.1700.77) and default gnome-shell (v. 3.8.4).
I was using firefox 3.X (latest) until recently but it irked for two reasons:
- it takes forever for everything
- it kept crashing (as in really really often)
first I got rid of some extensions to save some thinking energy, but didn't help much, so I downgraded and am now running 2.0 silly thing is, none of my extensions work - they seem to be 'registered' to FF3 (which I purged) This also applies to new addons installed from FF2.
I'm running centos 5 on my other pc, the latest version downloadable, and when i go to run firefox or konqueror to browse the web, they don't load. there is no errors, or errors in the logs, so i don't know what to do.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have developed an audio problem; although continue to get sound with kaffeine and aamrok, firefox recently quit playing sound; no software updates were performed, it just quit. It has always been buggy, like audio would cut out if another program tried to play a sound and firefox and/or aamrok would have to be restarted. this is different though, it's nothing to do with a conflict it just doesn't work. It won't play sound from flash videos from the internet or locally but I can see the vids, and it won't play mp3's (these both will play fine with aamrok or kaffeine). It worked fine until all of a sudden, Also, konqueror is exhibiting the same behavior as firefox, and it too used to play sound just fine.
I have already used yast to update anything to do with "codec" "xine" "flash" and "firefox"
Just this Konqueror issue bothers me really bad. So decide to share it here and see if anyone has a better solution.
Java support is really poor in konqueror.
For example,
1. on webex.com and just try to join a test meeting. It never opens the meeting window however there is no error or any kind prompt.
2. facebook.com, if you try to upload a picture, you have to choose simple uploading tool in konqueror in order to do the job.
Why java can not be made work properly like in firefox and chrome? Is there any critical hurdle that I did not know?
My solution: use konqueror for normal browsing and switch to firefox or chrome for java sites. This bothers, right?

I have a directory of a load of files without extensions. I know what the filetype should be, so is there any way of batch renaming the files to append a given extension onto it. i.e. text would be renamed as text.txt?

I have installed apache 2 and php 5 on my server. It works great but what I need is to add few extensions to PHP so it supports my website:
PDO (with MySQL and PostgreSQL driver)
curl
GD2 or Imagick
How can I do that?
I have located my php.ini file. It's in the /etc/php5/apache2.php.ini. I have used nano /etc/php5/apache2/php.ini to open it and I searched for "curl", "pdo" etc but there is no mention of them in the php.ini file. No commented lines with these extensions.
Will it work if I just add this on the end of my php.ini?

Can Firefox extensions be safely installed "the right way", that is, via Firefox interface? Or is it preferred to use the package manager? Some extensions I'm interested in aren't available in the official repositories while those that are available are quite outdated.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have KDE 4.4 and Firefox 3.6. Whenever I click a link from a plasmoid widget, it tries to open Konqueror and another instance of Firefox. The page actually loads in the opened Firefox window, but the task bar shows an instance of Konqueror and another instance of Firefox, that keeps loading for a while then close. See image below:
I currently have setup the browser default application as "firefox". If I set this option to use the default application, it opens in Konqueror and I don't see additional windows in the task bar. If I change the option to "firefox %u", then it exhibit the same issue, but the process is much faster, so the loading windows don't stay for long in the task bar. Additionally, it opens the link on a new Firefox window and opens the page twice. Although Konqueror is not loaded, the bouncing icon next to the mouse pointer shows up and stay for a while.

I used the Synaptic Package manager to successfully install Epiphany and Nautilus extensions. I restarted but the Epiphany extensions do not appear in the Tools/Extensions list and the Nautilus extensions do not appear in any of the commands.

*.org files (just org files not plain text files) are opened by default with emacs

As far as I know - i.e. for what I have been reading in the documentation - the default application for a given MIME-type is specified by writing into the group [Default Applications] in the mimeapps.list file

I just installed KDE and I had 2 minor problems with Konqueror:
1) Every time I emptying the trash, I'm getting the error message: "The file or folder /...path here.../.Trash-1000/files/...filename here does not exist.". Seems like I had deleted this file, and before emptying the trash, I deleted somehow this file outside Debian installation (probably from a live cd). Other than that, trash is working OK. I'm just wondering if there's a way to get rid of the error message. (Of course emptying the trash from command line, doesn't brings any message).
2) Konqueror stopped displaying thumbnails of JPGs, PNGs etc. (with the exception of Photobook view, which is not very convenient for large number of photos).
I bypassed this problem, installing d3lphin (since dolphin is not available for lenny), and browsing the photo catalogs with it.
I'm trying out Konqueror on Debian Lenny. I'm annoyed by the sounds it plays along with message boxes (for instance: sound of a breaking glass on message boxes showing an error). I can't neither find any setting for that nor I've been able to find some general setting.

If I use Konqueror to start Konsole (by pressing F4) and then run:

If I start Konsole directly, I do not receive any such errors.
Testing an upgrade Etch>Lenny 5.08, and one issue I've found is that "sudo konqueror" in a teminal no longer gives root priveleges, instead konqueror starts with limited rights. It also seems that using a .desktop shortcut, an attempt to run konqueror under any credentials other than the logged-on user fails.
Yet, 'sudo kwrite' works. Anyone met this before, or know why?
