Debian Configuration :: Network Connection Has Been Disconnected

Jul 5, 2011

How to enable wifi? I downloaded and installed Debian 6.00 and as I couldn't get online with my Tenda USB Wireless Adapter. I downloaded Debian 6.00 again, this time the CD Net Install version with Firmware included. However, the added firmware version of Debian does not find my wireless either. My wireless adopter is shown as Bus 001 Device 003: ID 148f:3072 Ralink Technology, Corp. RT3072 Wireless Adapter. There is a Network Icon in the Panel which when clicked shows "Create New Wireless Network". I have put in my ISP related network and my password and rebooted, but all I get is the message on my desktop:

"The Network Connection has been disconnected."

That isn't very polite, is it? Who has disconnected it and why remains a mystery to everyone except the culprit(s). I think I must have missed a basic step in the Wifi Enabling process. I checked the Use Permissions and everything is fine there, as User I have permissions to use modems and do networking and so forth. Also I should like to try "modprobe" but I see the package isn't in Synaptic Package Manager.

Fedora Networking :: WLAN Disconnected - Network Configuration Messed Up

Jul 20, 2009

Recently, I had the courage of installing Fedora 11 on my laptop while risking of trashing my Windows XP. Fortunately, the installation went fine and windows and fedora seems to be working together. But I needed to reinstall Fedora because I didn't do the partitioning right. After that the problem arises. I couldn't connect to the wlan. The first installation it was working fine. Now I can't. I select the network, enter the password and then it just says "Disconnected" or something like that then nothing else happens. So I had to reinstall it again thinking I did something wrong on the installation. But still it wasn't working. But it seems to be working when I boot from the live cd. I must have messed up my network configuration.

Debian Configuration :: WiFi Connection Stuck At (Setting Network Address)

Oct 9, 2015

I have Debian 8.2 with KDE 4.14 and everything runs perfect, except for the internet connection. This problem happens randomly when I turn on my machine. Sometimes when the desktop loads, the connection is already settled.

But sometimes when the desktop loads, the wifi icon is still loading and keeps stuck at "setting network address". Since this problem happens randomly I really don't know what is happening here. My wifi chip is this:

Code: Select all01:00.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation Centrino Wireless-N 130 (rev 34)

This is the problem:

I installed Debian with non-free firmware because of this chip.

Networking :: Wireless Error "the Network Connection Has Been Disconnected"?

Apr 6, 2009

This computer is using a Linksys WMP54G network adapter, and running Linux Ubuntu 8.10 with all of the latest updates. It was working fine for a couple months, then one day the internet quit working on it. I've tried playing with all of the settings, and can't get it to connect to the network. The windows computers in the house work fine. I also hooked my Linksys WUSB54GS USB network adapter and that worked right away. When I put the WMP54G back in, it will detect the networks but it won't connect. It gives the message, "the network connection has been disconnected", right away. Can someone please help with this. I work doing tech support for a small ISP and am excellent troubleshooting Windows but Linux is another story.

Debian Configuration :: WiFi Connection Which Then Is Sent To A Wired Connection

Sep 22, 2015

The situation: The office has a WiFi network on one DSL line, which is used for our VoIP call center, and a wired network for our internal network and the majority of web surfing/traffic . Part of the office must be temperature controlled/monitored - we have a rather nice digital thermometer which is WiFi enabled.I have a Debian Wheezy box with a WiFi card and ethernet connection

What I'm trying to accomplish:Connect wifi enabled thermometer to WiFi network so it can automatically send temp updates (currently I have to do it manually via USB)Have the Wheezy box accept the downloaded file then send it to a back up server in the wired network

Side things that may be useful : Prefer to use wired connection for internet and apt and suchWiFi connection will really just be used for connecting to the thermometer

This [URL] .... topic got me thinking that there might be a way to bring the two networks together, but I don't know if that will wreak havoc on things. I know, the Windows and Mac OS don't like having ethernet and wifi at the same time, might Linux be better for this?

v&n had this to offer in the prior thread [URL] .... which I'll be doing more research on.

Ubuntu :: Network Connection Configuration 10.04?

Jul 23, 2010

I guess this should come under the title "why can't they leave well enough alone?" Today I had occasion to configure a couple of machines with static IP addresses for some testing. My 8.04 machine - no problem. Invoke network-admin, unlock (with sudo credentials), set the desired IP, netmask and gateway. It is good to go. On the 10.04 box I did the following:

Right clicked on the network icon in the notification area (nm-connection-editor) - I see Auto eth0 (last used, never). So what have I been using for connectivity since I installed 10.04???

I then select Auto eth0 and press [Edit]. Under the IPv4 Settings tab I change "Method" Manual and enter my settings. However, I cannot Apply the changes - the [Apply] button is grayed out. So I try the same thing via the menu System; Preferences; Network Connections - same problem the [Apply] button is grayed out. So then I create a desktop icon to "gksu nm-connection-editor". Now I can Apply my changes and perform my testing. Then it is time to set things back to DHCP. Should be simple.

I invoke "gksu nm-connection-editor" from my icon. Change Auto eth0 back to Method: Automatic (DHCP). Apply and the network icon appears to restart. But I have no Internet connectivity.

I can reach my router. I can reach my DSL modem. The connection to the Internet is still working on other PCs. In frustration I reboot the 10.04 box. I still cannot access the Internet. And the Auto eth0 interface shows never used.

I change Method: to Automatic (DHCP) Addresses only and enter my DNS servers for Opendns.org. Reboot and I am now able to connect to the Internet. Remove the DNS addresses and no connection. I did NOT have these specified in the network connection setup before changing to/from a static IP address.

While doing all this it seems that a new network connection "Wired network1" was created although it shows never used. I delete it, no change. I delete Auto eth0 and reboot. Now another new network connection "Auto Ethernet" appears and I can connect to the Internet without having the specify the DNS addresses in the network connections configuration. Interestingly this connection shows Last Used - now! Also after removing Auto eth0 and trying to Apply changes I am prompted for my password when I click the [Apply] button (starting the applet from the notifier icon, not my gksu launcher).

Fedora Networking :: F13 - SSHD Disconnected (Connection Closed)

Aug 8, 2010

I have installed Fedora 13 and updated it. I simply cant use ssh to connect to this Fedora, not even locally. I have enabled port22 in firewall settings and nothing. Tried to disable firewall completely and nothing. I have disabled SELinux (not sure if it has something to do with this, but... ) and nothing. Entered "ALL: ALL" in /etc/hosts.allow and still nothing. Dont know what to do anymore.

Here is what happens when I try to ssh to this machine, even from it:
[flibio@surf ~]$ ssh localhost
warning: Need basic cursor movement capability, using vt100
flibio's password:
Authentication successful.
Disconnected; connection lost (Connection closed.).
Connection to localhost closed.
[flibio@surf ~]$

Looking into Services > sshd and it says "This service is dead."
So I tried:
[root@surf etc]# service sshd restart
Stopping sshd: [FAILED]
Starting sshd: : OpenSSH_5.4p1 on
: FATAL: Creating listener failed: port 22 probably already in use! .....

And still I get disconnected whenever I try to ssh to this machine from anywhere. Services says that sshd is allways dead, even restarting it but I can only restart it by doing a pkill sshd before.

Ubuntu Networking :: Script To Monitor Connection - VPN Client Disconnected

Jan 22, 2011

My promlem is that I wrote a few simple script to monitor the network connection as follows:

script 1 "netmonitor.sh"
#!/bin/bash
# /usr/local/bin/netmonitor.sh
HOST=www.google.hu
ping -c 1 "$HOST" > /dev/null 2>&1 .....

So it's run every 5 minutes, and it works well, when it sees host is down, it restart the connection, BUT as the log shows below, about a half an hour after using the connection (for example the ssh through the internet or the vpn clients disconnected) , br0 (probably) goes down or something and the script needs always restarting the connection...

The log:
Fri Jan 21 14:45:01 CET 2011 Network is ready! .....
Fri Jan 21 15:55:41 CET 2011 Network seems down, rechecking...
Fri Jan 21 15:56:21 CET 2011 Network is down, restarting interface br0!
Fri Jan 21 15:56:48 CET 2011 Network is ready after interface br0 restart! .....

Then if I use again, its ready... Is it possible, that if system don't use the connection after getting the DHCP lease, it close the connection automaticly? Anyway it works ok, but I don't want to owerwrite my router's flash in every 5 seconds with te new lease, my script probably defeat it soon if I don't do anything.

Ubuntu Networking :: Ethernet Connection Does Not Come Back If Cable Had Been Manually Disconnected

Jan 28, 2011

OS: Maverick Ethernet driver: tested with sky2 an sk98lin This has been driving me crazy for the last few months: if I unplug ethernet cable while my laptop is on reconnecting it sometimes does not bring the connection back.

And once ethernet is gone nothing that I try seems to consistently bring it back. Rebooting, disabling/enabling the driver, disabling/enabling NIC in BIOS, changing driver from sky2 to sk98lin, deleting connection from Network Manager, resetting the router - nothing helps. It seems to come back randomly a few weeks later. Once I used live Ubuntu on a USB stick and ethernet came back not only on a live distro but then when I rebooted also on my main OS. But when I tried that trick next time ethernet was missing in the live distro as well.

Also once I was able to revive ethernet but compiling sk98lin driver, blacklisting sky2 and rebooting. Of course next time doing the same routine did not help. The thing is - ethernet works fine with either sky2 or sk98lin and I can unplug the cable and plug it back in most of the time without any issues. But then every so often - bang and I'm stuck with only wireless until ethernet suddenly starts working again.

Ubuntu Networking :: Wireless Connection - Internet Begins To Slowdown Then Get Disconnected

Feb 9, 2011

This is not the common problem that's on the stickied thread. I'm able to connect to my wireless network perfectly. I switch between Windows to game and Linux for desktop, coding, and hosting, so I can tell it has something to do with ubuntu 10.10. When I'm connected to my wireless network, at random times, my internet begins to slowdown, then I get disconnected from the internet, but the taskbar says I'm connected. This problem only happens in ubuntu and not Windows for some strange reason.

The applications that are usually open do not cause it, because it still does it even though I have little applications open (Google Chrome, gedit). When I'm on Teamspeak 3, I notice my ping rises to the 1000s randomly, and I get disconnected. Once again that only happens on Ubuntu.

Debian :: Network Manager Can't Share Network Connection?

Nov 13, 2015

In Googling around it appears that the Network Manager used to have a nice simple (obvious, logical, straightforward, intuitive, easy-to-use... ... can you tell I'm a bit surprised that there's not a simple button to do this, it's pretty common functionality ) option in the IPv4 tab called "Shared to other computers" allowing you to share your network connection with any computers connected to yours... kind of like this:

[URL] ....

Professor Google seems to indicate that this may have existed in Debian at one point but, I don't see this option anymore. How do I get it back (or is there another gui way to do this without editing the /etc/network/interfaces file... if there's no other way to do this... that's fine but I'd prefer an easy method of enabling and disabling sharing)?

What I'm trying to do... I have a Beaglebone Black connected via IP over USB. When I'm ssh'ed into the BeagleBone, I want to be able to use aptitude install to grab new packages etc... and that kind of requires access to the outside world. Everything I've found so far seems to to require a modification to the interfaces file but since (according to the interfaces man page) the preferred method is to use the network manager if possible... I'm trying to avoid that.

* It should be noted that I'm running sid with the experimental 4.3 kernel so... maybe in doing so I've shot myself in the foot?

Fedora Networking :: Network Connection Intermittent After DHCP Configuration - Stops Working Randomly

Jul 17, 2009

I'm having a bizarre problem where my network connection stops working randomly. At first I thought it was a DNS issue since Firefox simply chilled out on "Looking up [hostname]" until it timed out, but after further investigation (pinging IP's, "host" and "dig" being unable to reach servers) it became apparent that I couldn't even access the DNS servers i.e. the Wicked Connection of the East was most sincerely dead.

There are two strange things about this: one, there are no errors except "timeout". The network manager is happy, Firefox is happy until the lookup fails... Two, the failures only start *after* DHCP configuration. DHCP configuration never has any trouble sending or receiving packets. I'm going to try static IP and whatnot to see if that helps, more information later.

Debian Configuration :: Network Not Work When Use 2 Network Cards

Oct 24, 2010

I'm planning to use Debian as the OS for a firewall machine, which will sit between my internet connection and the rest of my computers. Now my network is all wired, no wireless whatsoever. I'm using the onboard the motherboards cat5 socket which seems to be using the VIA rhine driver and I'm also using a 3com 100MBps card.

I can list the machine spec if you want but it's nothing special, an old Athlon 64 rig with 1gb ram and an OEM motherboard, it all seems to work ok apart from the internet doesn't' seem to work. Lenny seems to detect both cards ok and I even used the net install CD and it managed to download everything using the 3com card.

The strange thing is when I'm in Lenny, I can't seem to connect. I can ping google, but when I try and view a webpage, the browser just sits there with a while screen... Could it be that using 2 network cards is confusing Debian? Right now I've only got the modem hooked up the the 3com card, and nothing connected to the onboard network card.
