Networking :: Wireless Error "the Network Connection Has Been Disconnected"?
Apr 6, 2009
This computer is using a Linksys WMP54G network adapter, and running Linux Ubuntu 8.10 with all of the latest updates. It was working fine for a couple months, then one day the internet quit working on it. I've tried playing with all of the settings, and can't get it to connect to the network. The windows computers in the house work fine. I also hooked my Linksys WUSB54GS USB network adapter and that worked right away. When I put the WMP54G back in, it will detect the networks but it won't connect. It gives the message, "the network connection has been disconnected", right away. Can someone please help with this. I work doing tech support for a small ISP and am excellent troubleshooting Windows but Linux is another story.

Since I have started to use Ubuntu 9.10, I have had multiple wireless connection troubles. First of all, it says the signal is 2 bars, when in fact my router is right next to me as of right now. Second of all, when I try to connect to it, it asks for my password 3 times, then says disconnected. I'm on a hardwire right now, it's across my keyboard, and I'm in a tangled mess.

This is not the common problem that's on the stickied thread. I'm able to connect to my wireless network perfectly. I switch between Windows to game and Linux for desktop, coding, and hosting, so I can tell it has something to do with ubuntu 10.10. When I'm connected to my wireless network, at random times, my internet begins to slowdown, then I get disconnected from the internet, but the taskbar says I'm connected. This problem only happens in ubuntu and not Windows for some strange reason.
The applications that are usually open do not cause it, because it still does it even though I have little applications open (Google Chrome, gedit). When I'm on Teamspeak 3, I notice my ping rises to the 1000s randomly, and I get disconnected. Once again that only happens on Ubuntu.

How to enable wifi? I downloaded and installed Debian 6.00 and as I couldn't get online with my Tenda USB Wireless Adapter. I downloaded Debian 6.00 again, this time the CD Net Install version with Firmware included. However, the added firmware version of Debian does not find my wireless either. My wireless adopter is shown as Bus 001 Device 003: ID 148f:3072 Ralink Technology, Corp. RT3072 Wireless Adapter. There is a Network Icon in the Panel which when clicked shows "Create New Wireless Network". I have put in my ISP related network and my password and rebooted, but all I get is the message on my desktop:
"The Network Connection has been disconnected."
That isn't very polite, is it? Who has disconnected it and why remains a mystery to everyone except the culprit(s). I think I must have missed a basic step in the Wifi Enabling process. I checked the Use Permissions and everything is fine there, as User I have permissions to use modems and do networking and so forth. Also I should like to try "modprobe" but I see the package isn't in Synaptic Package Manager.

These problems just started the last couple of days but I have been using Lucid 10.04 for a month now. My wireless Signal varies in strength wildly. I sitting at home, not 20 feet from my router. I never had these problems before Ubuntu Lucid Lynx 10.04. I am running both Network Manager and Wicd.
Errors:
1. Wicd states "Wrong Password" which is not true.
2. Dropping off-line for no reason, sometimes 3 or 4 times a minute and sometimes it works fine for hours.
3. Firefox 3.6.3 Automatically Checking "Work Offline"!?
[Code]...
I have the Proper Wireless Drivers. I have not changed my wireless settings, channel or WPA for 8 months now so I know thats not it.

I have installed Fedora 13 and updated it. I simply cant use ssh to connect to this Fedora, not even locally. I have enabled port22 in firewall settings and nothing. Tried to disable firewall completely and nothing. I have disabled SELinux (not sure if it has something to do with this, but... ) and nothing. Entered "ALL: ALL" in /etc/hosts.allow and still nothing. Dont know what to do anymore.
Here is what happens when I try to ssh to this machine, even from it:
[flibio@surf ~]$ ssh localhost
warning: Need basic cursor movement capability, using vt100
flibio's password:
Authentication successful.
Disconnected; connection lost (Connection closed.).
Connection to localhost closed.
[flibio@surf ~]$
Looking into Services > sshd and it says "This service is dead."
So I tried:
[root@surf etc]# service sshd restart
Stopping sshd: [FAILED]
Starting sshd: : OpenSSH_5.4p1 on
: FATAL: Creating listener failed: port 22 probably already in use! .....
And still I get disconnected whenever I try to ssh to this machine from anywhere. Services says that sshd is allways dead, even restarting it but I can only restart it by doing a pkill sshd before.

My promlem is that I wrote a few simple script to monitor the network connection as follows:
script 1 "netmonitor.sh"
#!/bin/bash
# /usr/local/bin/netmonitor.sh
HOST=www.google.hu
ping -c 1 "$HOST" > /dev/null 2>&1 .....
So it's run every 5 minutes, and it works well, when it sees host is down, it restart the connection, BUT as the log shows below, about a half an hour after using the connection (for example the ssh through the internet or the vpn clients disconnected) , br0 (probably) goes down or something and the script needs always restarting the connection...
The log:
Fri Jan 21 14:45:01 CET 2011 Network is ready! .....
Fri Jan 21 15:55:41 CET 2011 Network seems down, rechecking...
Fri Jan 21 15:56:21 CET 2011 Network is down, restarting interface br0!
Fri Jan 21 15:56:48 CET 2011 Network is ready after interface br0 restart! .....
Then if I use again, its ready... Is it possible, that if system don't use the connection after getting the DHCP lease, it close the connection automaticly? Anyway it works ok, but I don't want to owerwrite my router's flash in every 5 seconds with te new lease, my script probably defeat it soon if I don't do anything.

OS: Maverick Ethernet driver: tested with sky2 an sk98lin This has been driving me crazy for the last few months: if I unplug ethernet cable while my laptop is on reconnecting it sometimes does not bring the connection back.
And once ethernet is gone nothing that I try seems to consistently bring it back. Rebooting, disabling/enabling the driver, disabling/enabling NIC in BIOS, changing driver from sky2 to sk98lin, deleting connection from Network Manager, resetting the router - nothing helps. It seems to come back randomly a few weeks later. Once I used live Ubuntu on a USB stick and ethernet came back not only on a live distro but then when I rebooted also on my main OS. But when I tried that trick next time ethernet was missing in the live distro as well.
Also once I was able to revive ethernet but compiling sk98lin driver, blacklisting sky2 and rebooting. Of course next time doing the same routine did not help. The thing is - ethernet works fine with either sky2 or sk98lin and I can unplug the cable and plug it back in most of the time without any issues. But then every so often - bang and I'm stuck with only wireless until ethernet suddenly starts working again.

Hi - I am new to Linux and Ubuntu so I have no idea how to fix or problem solve unfortunately I installed Ubuntu 9.10 from scratch recently on this laptop and all was good. I connected to my WIFI network no problem. It's WPA PSK encrypted, DHCP enabled. I just set it up in Network Manager and it was all fine. Then after a few days I installed a printer and some packages and updates via synaptics. The network connection started dropping after 20 mins or so. Only a reboot would restore it - auto connects at first, runs fine till it drops then never will reconnect. I posted on here, someone gave me some lines to put in a config file. I tried that. I didn't seem to help much, problem remained. Yesterday I checked for updates and there were a whole bunch so I just installed them all. Now I cannot connect at all. I have deleted and recreated the connection in Network Manager but it doesn't help. It tries to establish a connection but never achieves it. I am connecting to the internet now on the same laptop booted into Windows, so all the hardware is fine.
Can anyone who knows about ubuntu networking help? Do I need to do a complete reinstall? Seems a bit much, but it worked when I initially installed the OS. I want to like Ubuntu, but something as basic as connecting to the internet is pretty vital so reluctantly having to start using Windows again...

I checked with Windows 7 and several networks appeared, including my libraries, but Ubuntu was blank.

I installed Jolicloud OS with Windows XP before because Windows XP have too many virus to attachment to Internet so whenever I go on the internet, most of the link take us to random site so I just installed Jolicloud OS however, some reason, I don't like Jolicloud very much because it require to enter the user name and password to link Jolicloud so wasted my time to use it... Its cool but pointless.
So, I just realised Ubuntu also provided free Ubuntu OS for netbook. After I downloaded Ubuntu desktop 11.04 and installed the system (all the datas is now gone and only current OS is Ubuntu)So, once I installed it... The netbook seem running well and no problem however, there is a huge problem is wireless are not found so I can't even use the Internet!.This netbook only got wireless and nothing else to connect like cable (wired).

I'm having problems with my Internet. I just recently downloaded 10.04 (went from 8.04) and now I can't get online! I could yesterday! I don't have access to the router, but the internet works great on all my Windows computers. On my panel it show's my wireless connection bars with an exclamation mark and says disconnected. I don't know what to do! It's a Toshiba Satellite computer.
Also, I can't update anything, or install anything because I don't have direct access to the router. I know there is a lot of information about this problem already, but everything I've seen needs me to download new drivers. If you know how to do it from one computer to another I can do that. I'm just not very techy.

This morning I connected to internet, using the 'hidden network' feature of Ubuntu, like I always do. In the beginning it worked well, but after a while, while playing a game, I got disconnected. As I closed this game, I discovered that Ubuntu was asking for the WPA key (it was already filled out correctly) There were no changes made in the network while I was playing. My brother and his girlfriend can both connect using their Windows 7 laptops, so the network itself should be allright.

Ubuntu 10.04: no problems to connect to secured wifi networks. However, when trying to establish a connection to an insecure wifi after some time I get the message "disconnected, you are now offline" without ever having been connected. Once out of about 30 times I get a normal connection. My eeePC 1005HA is double boot and I can connect from WinXP without problems. There seems to be a DHCP timeout (see attached output of syslog). I have seen some posts about the same problem but none of them had a solution. I hate it to use WinXP just for the sake of connecting to the spot.

Just installed ubuntu 11.04 on an old pc. At first, I was unable use my wireless usb adapter (netgear wpn111), but was successful after installing ndiswrapper-common and ndiswrapper-utils-1.9 manually. cool! then I updated all packages successfully via synaptic package manager and rebooted.now I have lost network connectivity. the os still sees the wireless usb adapter, but I have no connectivity. the indicator applet shows an exclamation point.
How can I troubleshoot this? are there logs? can I fallback to a previous good state?I am new to ubuntu, but experienced in unix. note: my pc only has 1/2 GB memory if that matters. but, hey, it worked once.

I was on my wireless network when I accidently switched on "airplane mode". Several reboots later and I can't get back onto my network. It keeps prompting for a password, even though it's the correct password. I've booted into Mac OSX & Windows on the same laptop and they connect no problems.
How can I delete the network connection to take it from the top again ? You used to be able to right click on the network connection in F14, select "edit connections" and then delete anything that was offending. That seems to have been removed now though ? Where is it stored and where can I kill it ?

I just finished upgrading from 9.10 to 10.04 via the Update Manager. My first noticeable problem is that my wireless connection with my home network no longer functions on my IBM Thinkpad T42 laptop. The Network Manager applet shows that it detects my home network (and those of several of my neighbors), but I have not been able to get it to connect to this network. I've been using WPA & WPA2 Personal settings for security, and the Network Manager applet had correctly picked up the password that I had been using under 9.10. I've searched the Ubuntu Forums for "wireless T42" and thought I'd found a solution in a posting that recommended using the "wcid" network manager, but I've been unable to find wcid either via the Synaptic Package Manager or the Ubuntu Software Center.
1. I've noticed that in Lucid Lynx the Network Manager applet's icon in the top panel is no longer the vertical bars symbol that it displayed in
Karmic Koala; instead, the icon is a radiating fan display. In the Network Manager's edit Network Connections window, this fan icon is shown on the Wireless Connection tab, while the vertical bars icon is shown on the Mobile Broadband tab.
2. The Wireless Connection tab shows, on the line in which it shows awareness of my home wireless network (as "Auto 389690") that this connection was "Last Used" "1 month ago". It should be saying something like "today".
FWIW, the Network Manager detected my wired "eth0" connection with no difficulty. Both Jaunty and Karmic picked up my home wireless connection without any problems. Now I have no idea what to try next.
