Debian Configuration :: Blender Crashes On Open Radeon-graphix

Jan 18, 2016

I have this one comp with an Radeon (MSI-R7850) card in it and its been working fine untill I tried to open Blender (3D creation Studio) today. Blender pops open and crashes. I opened it in command line to get the output but I dont know where to go from there. Blender used to work just fine on this comp. does on my others (they're NVidia).

Debian Multimedia :: No 3D With Radeon HD 4200, Open-source Drivers?

Feb 21, 2010

I'm running a Squeeze system on a PC with an ATI Radeon HD 4200 graphics card. Until recently I had been using the fglrx drivers without difficulty, but a recent upgrade removed fglrx - apparently this is because ATI has yet to release drivers for Xorg 1.7. So I've switched to the open source driver (radeon), but am not getting any 3D acceleration - hence can't run desktop effects in either kwin or compiz. When I run "glxinfo | grep OpenGL" I get the following:

OpenGL vendor string: Mesa Project
OpenGL renderer string: Software Rasterizer
OpenGL version string: 2.1 Mesa 7.6.1
OpenGL shading language version string: 1.20
OpenGL extensions:

It's the software rasterizer that is the problem, I gather. After Googling for similar problems encountered by others, I've installed firmware-linux and firmware-linux-nonfree, but to no effect. All fglrx-* packages are purged. Does anyone have any other thoughts? (I don't currently have an xorg.conf file in use.)

Debian Configuration :: ATI Radeon Xpress 1100 Driver In Squeeze?

Mar 4, 2011

Alright, Lenny has a working "fglrx-driver" package for my laptop, but Squeeze does not. Would it be possible to install the one from Lenny on Squeeze since Squeeze has newer libraries and such? I know I can't install new stuff with older libraries, but can I install the old stuff with newer libraries? I am at the end of my rope here! I mean ATI sucks and we all know this, but I've always found a Linux/open-source alternative that worked, until Squeeze.

Debian Hardware :: ATI R7 Graphics Card - Open Source Radeon Or Fglrx Catalyst?

Jul 11, 2014

I've set up this new PC, the graphic card I picked is the ATI R7 260X, pretty good card with lots of core processors, high clock and 2GB memory. I'm now currently using the 14.4 catalyst drive, it works actually alright, though, there are some mishaps with this driver:

First my hdmi screen had scale down, leaving black borders around, even though the catalyst control said the correct native resolution, this turned out to be a underscan that fglrx does and I've finally managed to fix it. Other caveat is that the screen simply won't suspend or turn off( via software), DPMS actually works, forcing it turns the screen blank for some seconds but something does not allow the screen to sleep.

Performance wise it seems pretty good though, everything is pretty smooth, being able to play games maxed out on resolution and ultra settings, though, I still haven't tested out that many games.

The open-source radeon on the other hand, well its open-source, fully xorg and linux compatible, which is a major plus point. It seem it has come a long way, supporting lot of features and providing better performance in some cases.

Before installing Catalyst I had issues with mesa and steam, steam would complain about not finding the 32bit libraries, this is however a steam runtime issue, maybe it could already be fixed.

Debian Configuration :: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470 Non-free Driver Installation?

Jun 6, 2011

1- I'm trying to install the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470 driver over the non-free repository ...the problem is that until now i didn't found a recent documentation ...and to be honest i don't know which procedure should i use to rightly install the driver .

2- I have two graphic cards (integrated Intel with the i5 processor), and i can't change the default one to the ati! because debian had set the intel card as a native one...! that's why i´ m wondering if just an installation of the non-free drivers will solve this or not! Debian Configuration :: Squeeze: Suspend/hibernate Resume Fails With Radeon Graphics

Aug 6, 2010

I am running Squeeze on an older Compaq EVO laptop with radeon graphics.

A few months ago, after an upgrade, suspend and hibernate stopped working. The suspend or hibernate worked fine, but the resume just hung with a black screen. I finally got around to looking into it and found a workaround.

The workaround is to disable Kernel Mode Setting for the radeon. This can be done by adding the boot parameter "radeon.modeset=0" or by editing /etc/modprobe.d/radeon-kms.conf so that it includes the line "options radeon modeset=0".

If you are interested in the details, you can search for problem reports related to radeon kernel mode setting.

Debian Configuration :: Virtualbox Crashes When Fullscreen Is Activated

Sep 22, 2015

I have installed installed Debian 9 (stretch/unstable) which has GNOME 3.16.3 and runs Linux kernel 4.1.0-2 by default in Virtualbox 5.0. The host OS is Windows 8.1 On each instance of activating full screen mode in the VM, a freeze occurs then an abrupt close (abort).

I am inclined to believe that this problem resides in the OS (Debian 9) rather than Virtualbox or the Host. The reason being is that prior to installing Debian 9 (today) I had Jessie installed for quite some time where this error/issue never surfaced.

This issue is rather complicated in the sense that if alternating between full screen and normal mode quickly, this occurs whereas, if done every 10 seconds or thereabout it happens almost seamlessly. Also, if 3DAcceleration is switched off that doesn't occur.

How do I find the root of this problem and a resolution to it?

Also, is it possible to make the Debian installer accept an existing set of partitions? Or even alter the size of the automatically created partitions? Does expert mode let you control the partitions? How many other very detailed things would I have to know to use expert mode, though?

Debian Configuration :: Radeon DRI Driver, Clicking "Apply" It Fails?

Mar 3, 2011

i couldn't get out after many hours of reading documents/posts/forums etc.

The issue:In Kde 4.4.5, using xorg and radeon opensource driver, i can't set OpenGL for desktop effects. Clicking "Apply" it fails. OpenGL seems corrupted someway. I have to stay on XRender. This is the glxinfo output:

glxinfo | grep OpenGL
OpenGL vendor string: Mesa Project
OpenGL renderer string: Software Rasterizer
OpenGL version string: 2.1 Mesa 7.7.1
OpenGL shading language version string: 1.20
OpenGL extensions:

The story:i was running previously kde with nvidia propertary driver and a nvidia board. Then i removed the board for a fault and put a sapphire radeon HD5450. Initially i set up propertary radeon fglrx. At the end, i decided to use the opensource drivers, removed in the best way all fglrx files and links. So i then followed the wiki for reinstall open source radeon drivers, did it many times, also reinstalling xorg with purge, same for libgl1-mesa-xxx etc, but i still cannot use the OpenGL hardware support (should be DRI, that is correctly installed but not loaded).

Seems to be really an opengl corruption, if i disable the check on apply, and select OpenGL rendering, i get a complete blank screen.

Debian Configuration :: How To Open Ports On Debian?

When that did not work I posted on the thunderbird forum. It was decided there I had a problem with debian since both the thunderbird and router settings were right. doing more research I used nmap and netstat to check for open ports and it seems to me I only have tcp 80 and udp 138 open. downloaded firestarter hoping to solve the problem but in the events section it does not show thunderbird trying to connect to any port. Is this a case of not understanding what I am looking for here. Is there some way to open all ports on debian and then using firestarter to block the traffic I do not want.

Debian Hardware :: Launching Blender Makes The Sound Cut Out?

Jun 7, 2010

After becoming somewhat disillusioned with a number of other distro's I decided to turn to debian and I must say I like it! Install was a breeze, I even did my own partitioning instead of letting the installer handle it ... Squeeze 2.6.32-trunk-amd64,
Intel Core2 Quad (Q9550)
Asus Pro Turbo main board,

It seems that simply unplugging all USB devices and rebooting was all I needed to do.The other sound issue I have (that also occurs on a number of other distro's) happens when I launch Blender. Debian Configuration :: Firewall Up But Ports Still Open

Sep 9, 2011

I have just switched over from firestart to gufw.I have set all incoming traffic to deny and all outgoing traffic to allow.I have rules set for incoming traffic, and have only opened 1 port on my system for torrents. My router also only has the same port opened which again is for torrents.I use "Network Tools" which is included on squeeze and do a portscan of 192.168.1.100 and 127.0.0.1 I get all kinds of crazy ports coming back as opened. What is even stranger is if I do a few scans, these ports change, so one port on one scan may come up as open, then it will disappear and a different port may show as open.

Mind you none but the torrent port is forwarded in my router, I have no idea what any of these other ports are, or why they are even showing up.What the heck is going on? I dont think this is normal? Am I at any higher risk for attack?

Debian Configuration :: When Open A Web Browser - Can't Resolve The Host Name

Mar 29, 2011

I've just installed Debian Squeeze from a live CD. When I open a web browser (be it iceweasel or epiphany) and try to go to google.com, it tells me it can't resolve the host name. [Edit: They do, however, allow me to go anywhere on debian.org, minus the search feature] I also get the same error when I try to go to my website running on a local server. However, when I type the server's IP address (192.168.0.10), it goes to the website fine. Basically, any program I run that needs to resolve a host name returns an error, with the exception of the host command:

I've tried changing my DNS server IP from 192.168.0.1 (my router, configured to provide DNS) to 192.168.1.254 (my internet modem, also configured to provide DNS). That didn't help any. Then I changed my DNS server IP to the same one used by the modem, and now everything works.

I've tried googling my way out of the issue, and I've found where someone had the same issue as I've got and fixed it by adding "blacklist ipv6" to their /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf file, but that didn't work for me.

So, recap: Why does resolving domain names fail for certain applications (except the "host" program) when the DNS server IP is that of my router or modem (which works fine for all of my other computers), but suddenly works when I point the computer straight to my ISP's DNS servers, and how can I permanently fix the problem?
