I have set up a MythBox on Debian Lenny. I have a wireless connection using a Belkin USB WiFi Device. I am using ndiswrapper, wpa_supplicant, etc. I am using a static ip address. I have internet access without problems. However, if I try to ssh in or even ping my mythbox inside my network there is no connection. I have never had to do anything special to ssh into debian in my network before. I am confused that I have an internet connection but can't get a ping reply.
I am using centos box as a router. WAN side has a public ip and lan side also using a public ip. I configured dhcp server on the LAN side and it is working perfectly, pcs on the LAN side can able to access the internet.
Problem: Considering the fact that LAN IPs is using Public IP and it is presumed that from the internet it can be able to ping IPs inside the LAN but, alas, it couldn't.
No firewall has been config!
Question: What config should be done on the box so that IPs inside the LAN can be ping from the internet?
I am using CentOS 5.5, I installed squid3 in that machine. From my users machine i am not able to use our webmail address. Outlook shows pop3 error.cannot ping webmail address inside proxy.
This applies to my 2 opensuse PC's, my Windows PC is fine.I can ping a hostname, say "PC1" but I can not ping PC1.domain.local (even the host PC can not ping it's own FQDN). When I ping just the hostname the ping stats even list the FQDN.Onto the next issue, since all my PC's, have the domain prefix domain.local, my Synology can not. I can ping it's IP and that is it. I can resolve it's name with nmblookup just fine tho and that is what is killing me. How is this not resolving.Even weirder, I can browse to "Synology" in Network Servers under places on the slab.
I would like to ask something. Today my network Internet access suddenly slowed down, after inspecting the problem the hard way we disconnected one of our servers(ip=190, debian squeeze) from network and the network was alright again. When we plugged it back in, following symptoms were observed: computer 190 pinged gateway app. each 6th time. gateway(debian lenny) pinged computer 190 app each 6th time whole network Internet access was slowed down, local network functioned just fine
While pinging themselves, i ran iptraf on icmp packets on gateway and I saw what i thought was ping attack, lots of echo request coming from external address to computer 190. Blocking that address in iptables didn't help but restarting the gateway did, network Internet conenction is at full speed and gateway and computer 190 ping just fine.
My question is, what steps should I undertake in similar case (it's second time in 2 months) - to debug similar problems. Is it even possible for ping DOS to this kind of damage?
i have installed linux debian in my computer but i have aproblem , i have a ping only on my computer itself , not to gateway or other computers on my network .
Ip : 10.0.88.9 Gateway : 10.0.88.1 dns :10.0.88.7
note:when i have installed system i have no internet connection so it is not installed updates
I'm using debian lenny. When I boot with kernel 2.6.36, ping always respond with Network is Unreachable. But when I boot with kernel 2.6.26 it works. I can't even ping the dafault router of 2.6.26 kernel when I am at 2.6.36. Also, system/administration/network does not show any connections while it shows something at the other kernel.
I have a debian server installed with a static ip. Now i am able to ping my ip, but when i try to configure a domain name with the nameserver as my ip, i am not able to ping the domain name
I am using an virtual machine. where I need to ping from one machine to another. earlier I was able to ping. But after going to google.com once, I cannot ping back to this machine.
But if I gave ping -I eth1 <IP> then I can ping.
I cannot install any package, so tell me solution which includes not installing any package.
I just installed open Suse 11.3, and I cannot SSH my school. Upon further investigation I could not even ping any machines outside my local area network. Ironically I could nmap machines outside my local area network.
I installed openSUSE on one of my work system. The network port wasn't working when I was installing, but works fine now (checked in Windows). But for some reason, I am not able to configure the network. I used both Dynamic and Static IPs (both work fine in Windows) but still no go. I am using Yast Control Center for this purpose. I can't even ping the default gateway when I am using custom settings. When I use dynamic settings, it says Unreachable Network.
I'm new to SuSe and lateley I was trying to establish a Network, when some weired problems occured. I was able to establish the network and i have connection to the internet. The suse-machine is rechable by ping from all the other computers in the network. If I'm tryiing to ping the other computers from the suse-machine, nothing happens. The router responds without packet loss, but every other ping occurs in:
From 192.168.2.6: icmp_seq=2 Destination Host Unreachable From 192.168.2.6: icmp_seq=3 Destination Host Unreachable From 192.168.2.6: icmp_seq=4 Destination Host Unreachable From 192.168.2.6: icmp_seq=5 Destination Host Unreachable
I've been searching for some ideas to solve this problem but couldn't find any.
I try to use the "ping -a" command for getting an audible ping. But there is just silence The command "beep" works fine, so everything should be ok with the speaker (in the konsole).
I've been researching this all day with no luck thus far. Basically I need to cutoff port 21/ftp access from IP addresses outside of my local network. My local IP range is something like 192.168.0.100 - 192.168.0.150 -- so anything outside of this range would automatically be blocked.
Any IP address outside of this range would be denied as I use SFTP for remote access, etc. from home, etc.
I've researched IP tables, tcp wrappers, etc. but am still unsure which would be best for what is probably a simple fix.
I am creating podcasts that I like to download to my android phone. I host the podcasts on my home webserver and use dyndns for the website when outside the network. However, when I type in my dyndns website from inside my network, it will not work.
I realize i can use the ip address to get to the site, but since I use beyondpod for my podcasts, it's all saved in settings. So what i'd like to be able to do is download the podcasts to my phone from either inside or outside the network.
I am trying to route a security video server which is inside my network to the internet. my network is two interface eth0 (internet network xxx.xxx.xxx.198 and internal network 192.168.5.1
I have configured a samba server where I have configured it for /mnt dir to be exported/shared. When I verify this share, I see mnt dir but I want the content inside the mnt to be visible or chroot into mnt directly.
I am connected to a network with free traffic inside it and post-paid outer traffic. So I need a way to be able to separately monitor the download traffic from inside and outside the network. All the solutions I`ve found for now offer monitoring of ALL up/down traffic.
UPD: I`m connected to the internet through the network`s gate, so all the traffic comes through eth0. I wish to separate traffic incoming from the IPs on top from all other traffic
My Suse 11.4 wired network is not displayed in the bottom panel inside of my networkmanager. I can connect to the internet It just shows a red box with a white x inside near my clock is there anyway to get this working?
i am doing a project in which i have to use xen to create virtualised environment.I have already done this. now i am using the following setup
host os :- opensuse 11.1with ip 192.168.9.19 and with aliasing ip 192.16.9.14 guest os1:- opensuse 11.1 with ip 192.168.9.107 guest os2:- opensuse 11.1 with ip 192.16.9.13
I can ping the router, but I cannot ping anything outside of the network. The ping just sits there and eventually times out, no error message. I cannot download updates and it is the only box inside the network having any issues accessing the internet. I am running 10.10 server. I can get a list of packages on the update server, but not download them, it appears to be in an incoming issue. I'm using a motorola Netopia router in bridge mode with a netgear SRXN3205 as a router. Again every other system can download fine. I have tried running on one nic, no help dhcp, static again does nothing. I can pulls host [URL].. and I get
[code]...
It may be worth noting that I set the box up at home on a dlink router and it worked fine, however I am confused why it is the only system on the network having these issues every other box can ping just fine.
I am a new user to Linux but in the last couple of months gained some Idea about it,I am trying to set up a small network in my office having 3 windows xp PCs, two fedora10 PCsI have an adsl router with 4-port hub connecting to the internet, one switch (say sw1) and one linux PC (say linux1) is connected directly to the router, the three win xp PCs are connected to switch sw1.all the above is working fine, I am able to get connected to Internet In all the systems, and able to network among all the above four. Now I want to make the linux1 as a proxy server for, hence I added another network card into it connected it to another switch sw2, which is connected to another linux pc (say linux2).
I have tried a hundred things, and googled an equal no. and finally posting it here.In order to reduce confusion I have disabled DHCP in all machines, and given static ips insteadNetworkManager was not happy about it, hence to fix my static IP i disabled NetworkManager ('chkconfig NetworkManager off')
Why my redhat can;t ping to other network( if ping to gateway is ok) and than i can use internet and resolve to dns. selinux status is disable and iptables is flush
The NetworkManager applet on my desktop states that my router is 192.168.2.1 and that my first DNS server is 192.168.2.1, but I cannot ping any hosts on my network using by name. All my other computers are windows so the naming is netbios naming, but I don't know if that makes any difference to DNS. I take it that because the other computers are windows that I need a wins client or something on my Fedora laptop. I would rather not fill out my hosts file because the IP addresses of the windows boxes may change.
