I've been trying to install the latest NVIDIA driver for my 7800GS card. dl the driver from NVIDIA. ctrl+alt+F1. stop gdm3, after I hit agree I get an error. The CC version check failed: The compiler used to compile the kernel (gcc4.3) dows not match the current compiler (gcc4.4). The Linux 2.6 kernel module loader rejects kernel module built with a..
I want to install the nvidia drivers from the repository (they seem quite updated lately). But i hit some issues:
# aptitude install nvidia-glx The following NEW packages will be installed: libgl1-nvidia-alternatives{ab} libgl1-nvidia-glx{ab} libglx-nvidia-alternatives{a} nvidia-glx nvidia-installer-cleanup{a} nvidia-kernel-common{a} nvidia-kernel-dkms{a} nvidia-support{a} nvidia-vdpau-driver{a}
[Code]...
Since the nvidia packages are in testing i assume they can be installed, do they?
Using online Debian guide, installed latest nvidia-current, glx etc which seems to be 195.xx Machine boots to GUI but monitor setting menu doesnt respond nor is there an nvidia specific one. xorg.conf shows 'nvidia' driver but I suspect I am still on 'nouveau' since the synapatic package manager doesn't show an nvidia xserver-xorg-video choice.
Second question, any trailheads for using wheezy based drivers (i.e. nvidia's latest 270.xx) with squeeze?
how do i install the latest deluge release from the repository? Do Deluge have their own repository of the latest release? openSUSE repository does not have the latest release. I am in search of a bitorrent client. i have uninstalled Ktorrent, i dont want that. in windows i was used to Utorrent.
I installed Debian Squeeze with no issues. I went to install latest Nvidia driver as done previously with Lenny. Used instructions that worked on lenny from "the trooper" [url]
Downloaded th latest driver for my GeForce 7300 GS vidio card, driver package NVIDIA-Linux-x86-260.19.12.run
Used "method # 2 as described in HOW TO,as it worked perfectly in the past on Lenny. Only syntax I changed was instead of gdm I typed gdm3 as it appears that is the new name for gnome in Squeeze.
Did as folows:
Now the trouble showed up, Unfortunatly I can only go off my memory. A question was asked stating that something did not match, it needed a 3 and the driver had a 4 version or somethng of this sort. then it asked if I new what I was doing (and I lied) and selected yes. And whammo, it didn't work. (This question was asked when i did in Lenny and it is working perfectly still on that system). I now can not boot to GUI, I notice when system boots it starts in "S" mode although I select normal boot from grub2.
Not too bad if I got to reinstall as little is on the system. I just want to know what I am missing on the instalation deal or should I be going about this difrently with Squeeze.
I've installed Redhat fedora core 12 on my pc. I need to install the latest NVidia on my PC. My VGA Card is NVidia Geforce 9300M. I downloaded the latest drivers from NVidia website. I followed all instructions; however, I received the following error on the log file.
I updated my up to date F12 to F13. I have what must be a 640X480 display with no way to change it. I get an error:
"Error: Cannot retrieve repository metadata (repomd.xml) for repository: pgdg90. Please verify its path and try again" on all Yum commands so no yum installs are possible. I don't have the /usr/bin/GLX command So theAIGLX doesn't work.
As most of us are aware we have moved to a stable KDE repo url for all future updates. But how do I know what Repos are current? Is there a bulletin board I can check mine against?
Is there any way to update firefox to the latest stable version, like 3.6.x through the repos on OpenSUSE 11.2? And will it cause any problems if it can be done?
The latest in experimental is 1.1... the stable by upstream is 1.2 and the latest unstable is 1.3. So is there a repository where I can get the latest unstable automatically?
how to check what my latest installed drivers are and how to install the latest? If I search for Nvidia in YaST then noting comes up. I beleive the latest drivers from Nvidia are 195.xxx
I'm on Debian stable, I want to know if I could continue on Debian stable but install the latest version of KDE (5.6.1) without moving to testing or unstable. I want to install KDE latest (5.6.1) without having to have all of my other installs to be potentially unstable.
I have the Package nouveau-0.0.16-6.20100423git13c1043.fc13.x86_64 installed. Max resolution I can have is 800*600, can't seem find a linux driver for nvs on the nvidia site.

What does it mean by flashplugin-nonfree 1:3.6.1 ? What does 1:3.6.1 mean? What's the version of flash player? How can I install latest version of flash player? Websites say outdated flash player. What to do?
For my desktop use, I wanted to keep my office suite and web browser updated while continuing to run Debian stable as my base. Here is how to install the latest Firefox and Libreoffice packages on Squeeze. Download Firefox 4 here. Then as root:
Code: mv firefox*.tar.bz2 /opt cd /opt tar -xvjf firefox*.tar.bz2 ln -s /opt/firefox /usr/local/firefox4 ln -s /usr/local/firefox4/firefox /usr/local/bin/firefox4 rm firefox*.tar.bz2 [Code].....
It will install Libreoffice in /opt and the packages will show up in Synaptic Package Manager under "Local". The installation automatically creates menu entries in Gnome for Libreoffice applications. I've had no problems thus far using the latest Libreoffice 3.2.2 and Firefox 4. Hope this is helpful for anyone else wanting to install.
I'm having another go at ubuntu!I have Ubuntu 10.10 running (a fresh install).I went to the nvidia site and downloaded the linux drivers for it, (it's a .run file). So I try runnig it via the terminal, it goes great untill it mentions that I need to exit the X Window system?
So I tried pressing ctrl+alt+f2 (switches to a root terminal?) and tried runnig it from there but no luck either
I have been trying to install Filezilla on a virtual server and my laptop. Both are running Debian 8.1 Jessie. The former is running the 4.1.5 kernel and the latter 3.16.0.
installed filezilla on the virtual server. It fails on my laptop:
Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done E: Unable to locate package filezilla
Code: Select allaptitude search filezilla and Code: Select allapt-cache search filezilla brings up nothing.
I assume I must simply add the apt repository. I have only managed to find a repo for Ubuntu at [URL] ..... I don't know the differences (if any) between packages in Ubuntu and Debian but since the repo describes itself as having been ported from Debian, I assume there are differences.
I have downloaded the filezilla package from the Filezilla site [URL] ...., but every reference I find to installing Filezilla on Debian discusses apt-get so this is my preferred option.
It says it requires version 2.17, but the one in the repository is libblkid1 (2.16.2-0) as seen on [URL]... I guess almost no one else is getting this as it isnt fixed! And it is such an important program (mkfs.ext*) Should i install the one from sid's repository? If this is such a huge bug as it seemes to be, why hasnt it been fixd for more than a day (after an "aptitude upgrade", then i noticed this).
I'm trying to install Kamailio DEB repository. (see http://www.kamailio.org/dokuwiki/doku.php/packages:debs)
These are the steps I've done(as explained on the web site): 1. First download and add our GPG key to your apt key list: wget http://deb.kamailio.org/kamailiodebkey.gpg apt-key add kamailiodebkey.gpg
2.Then add the repository lines to your /etc/apt/sources.list file depending on the Kamailio version of your choice: deb http://deb.kamailio.org/kamailio lenny main deb-src http://deb.kamailio.org/kamailio lenny main
I wish to install debian on a number of boxes and have resolved on a network install. I'll first do a minimal install using the network install iso on a usb stick, then reboot and complete the installation using a local caching repo (apt-cacher) on the LAN. As a way of further minimizing bandwidth usage, I wonder if I could extract the .debs from a full installation cd and use them to populate the local repo?
Anyone know what happened here or what I need to do? I'm running Fedora 12 and had the nvidia video driver setup and working perfectly from rpmfusion repo ... I just did a yum update and now my display is stuck on 800X600 ....
[URL]. I now have both monitor working and noticed my drivers are not current. I have the older ones installed. The 260.19.06 one. I installed via the suggested restricted driver utility in ubuntu 10.10. I don't have full use of the graphics and would like to install the latest driver.
Question: 1. Do I uninstall nouvea and nv drivers (still installed) 2. Do I uninstall the current nvidia driver, then do a manual install of the latest driver from nvidia?
