I've been trying for probably 10 hours now to get the bcm4306 driver working on Debian. I finally got it installed using ndiswrapper... However, now ndiswrapper says that the hardware is not present! When I run lspci, though, it lists BCM4306 as the network controller. What is going on, and how do I fix it? It's on a Dell latitude D600.

I'm having a bit of trouble getting the wireless to work on a Dell Inspiron 9200. Following the instructions here didn't help, though I didn't get any errors along the way. Scanning for networks produced 'No scan results,' though. I'm using Ubuntu 10.04.1.

I'm fairly new to fedora, and I installed it on my gateway kav60 netbook. Everything works fine, except that the wifi is saying that the firmware is missing. Is there a way to fix this?

However, I have the problem I can't see any devices on my IDE port in my Asrock P43 mainboard, because the VIA VT6415 IDE controller isn't recognized. I typed an 'lspci -k', and I can clearly see there wasn't loaded any module to handle this VIA PATA controller.

I have had a Broadcom Corporation BCM4318 since Fedora 10. In addition, both Fedora 10 and 11 wouldn't recognize the card with out third-party drivers. I was pretty excited when I booted the 12 Live CD and it recognized it at boot.
Since this is my lab box I thought its time to give Fedora 12 a try.
I did an DVD upgrade from 11 to 12 and rebooted. The Broadcom came up fine this time. I did a yum upgrade to finish from whatever was not on the DVD and rebooted. This time no 'b43' network card was recognized. I still had my third part driver files so I:
b43-fwcutter -w /lib/firmware/ ./broadcom-wl-4.150.10.5/driver/wl_apsta_mimo.o
and a 'modprobe b43' and I had my card back.
I am sorry for dragging this out this far, but now every time the Fedora 12 box reboots I have to type in modprobe b43 to get my card to work. I did not have to do this for neither Fedora 10 nor 11.
I put a line in /etc/modprobe.conf - 'alias wlan0 b43' but I still don't get my wireless card until I type modprobe b43.

I have just installed a NEC 3.0 PCIe board in my CentOs 5 box, but the card is not recognised, and no drivers seem to be loaded for it. lspci says: USB Controller: NEC Corporation Unknown device 0194 (rev 03) The vendor says the board is supported on Linux kernels 2.6.16 and later. uname says my kernel is 2.6.18-194.17.1.el5
How do I get this device to be recognised, and drivers loaded for it?
I'm having a problem with the installation of Ubuntu Server 10.04 64bit on my IBM xSeries 346 Type 8840. During the installation the system won't recognize any disk, so it's asking which driver it should use for the RAID controller. There's a list of options, but nothing seems to work. I've been searching the IBM website for an appropriate driver, but there is no Ubuntu version (there is Red Hat, SUSE, etc). I was thinking about downloading the correct driver onto a floppy disk to finalize the installation, but apparently no 'general' Linux driver to solve the problem here.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an old IBM Xseries 300 server that i can use. So, i am trying to install Centos 5.3, but during the installation , no disk can be found. I have 2 disks (1+1 in mirror) connected to an IBM serveraid PCI card.
I installed Debian Lenny, and it recognize the card (so the disks) immediatly.

I'm using a "HuiJia USB Gamepad" to connect a standard N64 controller to my computer over USB. I'm doing this so that I can play games using mupen64plus, which uses the SDL to get input. My problem has to do with the way the adapter deals with C button events. Apparently, the u/d and l/r C buttons are treated by the adapter as joystick axes, so joystick events are generated by using them. But, for some reason, these events aren't recognized by SDL.
It gets stranger - if I cat the output of /dev/input/event5, the event gets printed when a C button is pressed. Furthermore, when I configure SDL to use the /dev/input/event* devices rather than /dev/input/js0, the C buttons are recognized! (Though, this leads to a situation where the joystick can't be calibrated... go figure). So, I can either have a correctly calibrated joystick with no C buttons or a miscalibrated joystick with working C buttons. Does anyone have any idea what I can do about this situation? The best outcome would be to force the C button joystick events to appear when using /dev/input/js0. Device as it appears in the output of lsusb:

Currently I'm running Ubuntu 10.10, Kernel 2.5.35-29-generic. I have a Broadcom 4318 for my WLAN and a Broadcom 4401-B0 for my ethernet. I followed the tutorial and I managed to get packet injection working on my WLAN; however, my ethernet connection isn't working. I tried sudo modeprobe b44, but I get the following message:

I have an issue with my Sound on OS 11.2.It is correctly recognized under hardware and the driver seems to start properly as well when I do rcalsasound start.But under Control Center / Sound Preference there is no audio hardware listed (and hene no sound playing)

It also does not seem to recognize the wireless card.I have an ethernet connection, but running ifconfig displays only the local connection.I have tried adding -nomodeset and -noacpi to the boot menu, but that does not seem to change things
View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm installing Squeeze on on a Dell Latitude D830 laptop with a Broadcom BCM4328 wireless network card, and I'm stuck on getting wireless internet to work. I have the 2.6.32-trunk-686-bigmem kernel. I run KDE and I have knetworkmanager installed to sort the network connections out. Unfortunately, knetworkmanager cannot find any wireless networks for eth2 (the wireless adapter). There is a wireless network, as other equipment can still connect to it.
I've installed the broadcom-sta drivers according to http://wiki.debian.org/wl. View 9 Replies View Relatedi just got ubuntu yesterday and had to play around with some settings and the fw-cutter tool to get my wireless working and it was...although i upgraded the kernel to 2.6.32-25-eneric...and it stopped working. the simple solution is to use the previous kernelersion...the wireless works there, but thats just not good enough for me ... it recognizes my card is there it just wont connect. originally i was using b43 driver and now it does not show in the system>hardware drivers list only the sta driver does, although when i try to install and activate it i get the error message "sorry, installation of this driver failed.please have a look at the log file for details: /var/log/jockey.log"
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a backup HDD with a different distro for my laptop and i can boot into it via external usb or if swapped into the laptop. This HDD/install in question is debian testing and was working fine, the issue arose suddenly. I was first suspecting a failure of hardware somewhere on the motherboard, but the hdd i was using with an external usb adapter also works when installed into the machine. also, the HDD is recognized once i have booted using the external HDD and distro, but it is not recognized by the bios. so i dunno, my first guess is something became corrupt within the testing install, but i guess its also possible that there is some wrong with the HDD but thats not immediately apparent as all the data is still accessible.
Should also note that the HDD with testing on it is also recognized when connected via the external usb adapter, while booted from alternative distro/HDD.
Also. just tried this, but i can get the testing HDD/disto to boot if connected externally. it was going pretty quick, but there i did catch a line about a corrupt filesystem. any commands to run to see what might be going on?? log files to look at?
I have FC 12 running and everything was working fine for about 2 weeks or so. Then today after I put my Daughter to bed, I booted up the laptop and it could not find any of the many WiFi networks that are present in my area, and when I tried to get it to connect to my home network through a saved configuration in the Network Connections Manager it kept asking for my WPA2 Password but it would not connect. So I got out my delopitated Cat-5 cable and tried to do an update and see if that would solve the problem. But alas it did not work (hence the posting of this tread ).
I even tried to unload the "B43" driver using code...
But that did not do the trick either. Is there any way to get it to work again without doing a re-install of the entire Operating System? I already had to do that, and it is a big pain in the A$$ because of a defective ATI Card in the laptop.
I am using open suse 11.1 in my acer emachine laptop. Everything is okay except Network cards are not working. It says that firmware is missing or kernel problems. My network cards are Broadcom network cards. How can I fix it?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a Broadcom Corporation NetXtreme BCM5721 network card on my server at work.Everything works fine for a few weeks, then randomly the network connection on the server will stop working. After it stops working, I will try to reconnect with the network manager, it shows a wired connection available, it shows the "connection in progress"animation, then the "connection disabled" icon.
I uninstalled the network manager and used manual configuration, but do you think the network manager was the issue? I can't have the server disconnecting randomly every few weeks with no way to know what the real problem is. Was there an issue with the network manager with 10.04?

I am very frustrated in that I would like to use Ubuntu 10.04 but it is useless without internet connectability. I am new to linux and do not understand where to get the appropriate drivers or how to install them. I wish someone would answer this post and either give me a clue what to do or just say "give up" and uninstall ubunutu.
Just installed 11.3 kde. When running the live cd both wireless and ethernet devices appeared in the network connections manager utility. I even connected to a wireless AP.I just booted up for the first time and none of these devices are available. There is no network manager icon in the system tray, and when the network manager utility is maually opened the only connection type i can select is vpn.I know that opensuse should be able to recognize these devices since they were available and working via the live cd, so can anyone help me restore them?
One extra piece of info, is that I am sharing a home directory with a gnome ubuntu install. there were a few minor issues i dealt with initially, but i didnt need to change this user's UID like I have had to do in the past so that's good. Each time i open a terminal I get two pieces of output assuming from the bash startup saying something like.URL...I highly doubt that these problems are related, but figured I'd post. Also if someone knows the solution to that as well, that would save me a bit of googling.
I can not get the node or cloud controllers to startup using the init.d scripts. I have a fresh install of CentOS 5.4 with Eucalyptus 1.6.2 I have compiled Eucalyptus and all packages using the RPM supplied from Eucalyptus and utilizing yum installer. I do not currently have any processes or applications listening currently on the ports on the boxes as well. I think it may be a permissions issue or something because I get a "permission denied error", but I am not sure if it is Eucalyptus or CentOS. It looks as if it is not binding to the address on the interface of the NIC. It may be something else however. I have the Node controller, Cloud controller, and Cluster controller on seperate physical boxes. When I try to run either the cloud controller or the node controller I get this message:

I've just begun with a fresh USB install of Ubuntu 11.04, and have run into the seemingly standard wireless network issue with the Broadcom 4311. I've read countless posts on this forum, and have installed the STA driver "proprietary..." through the GUI driver installer.
The usual symptoms seem to persist; I can connect to the network using my wired connection, but when I unplug no wireless network connections kick in, or show up, or seem to be responsive anywhere..Also, I should note that I've read the forum post HERE but without much further understanding or resolution.
I have a Fedora Box with chillispot loaded for a captive protal wifi network. I am needing my office lan to connect to a controller on the WIFI network. I have tried many different firewall rules and have only momentarly able to ping something on the other network. here's some configuration info and my firewall rules that I thought should work.
