The pc has 3 disks sda and sdb not partitioned (for future raid use, the first 3 disks are hot pluggable) and sdc (on sata port 4) with
sdc1 for /boot (shared)
sdc2 set to swap
sdc3 extended
sdc5 for another linux distribution
[Code]....
I have installed without any problem but at time to configure the bootloader the only choiches are sda or sdc1.
I have also lilo installed on the mbr so i have added in its configuration the image and the initrd of centos with root configured as /dev/sdc6.
In every case the system stat, try to find raid devices, try to resume from sdc4 (this will be another problem in the future, I need to disable this), and later hal with a kernel panic unable to find root.
I think the kernel command line parameters are not correct but seriously i am not able to find them.

I have installed NoMachine NxClient deb, on Ubuntu 11.04, Nx installed and I connected to my uni server fine. The Nx program was originally in the applications drop down menu in "others". After a restart Nx was no longer in the menu, I dl'd again and found in Ubuntu software center that there was an option to reinstall NXClient, so I reinstalled and the icons appeared in applications/internet. After a restart they(the NX icons) disappeared again.No other programs have disappeared from the app menu like that.edit: after finding edit menu, I noticed nx client (show) was not "ticked" in internet selection. after a reboot the icon is now available in the app/internet menu.Previous to this I found what I thought was the application in shell $/usr/NX/bin/nxclientbut it would not run from shell command.I added to the panel, created an application launcher for /usr/NX/bin/nxclient and it works there, too.

I have Centos 5 installed on a PC in the local network. I have installed the RPM dhcpv6-client-1.0.10-16.el5.i386.rpm on this PC to configure it as DHCP V6 client. The RPM was installed successfully, and I have done modifications to the following files:
1. /etc/sysconfig/network, set the networking to yes.
2. /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth1 set the BOOTPROTO=DHCP.
Now the problem is when I start the client on this pc as dhclient, it throws the following errors, and logs out after some time. All the network configurations were lost and the PC gets disconnected from the network.
[root@ServerB]# dhclient

I am trying to attach my server to 2 diferent networks, with fixed ip addresses,
eth0 = 192.168.0.2 255.255.255.0 with gateway 192.168.0.1. This is currently working, and I can ssh o the machine on this address
eth1 = 192.168.150.5 255.255.255.0 with gateway 192.168.150.1
When I try and start eth1 with ifconfig eth1 up, I get the error message "eth1: unknown interface: no such device"
I have configured eth1 using system-config-network-tui and /etc/sysconfig/networking/devices/ifcfg-eth1 looks correct
GATEWAY=192.168.150.1
TYPE=Ethernet
DEVICE=eth1
BOOTPROTO=none

I'm stepping out with LDAP for the first time. It's up and running. My Question is really closer to DB4, the Berkely database. When I start the ldap service I get this output:
# service ldap restart

Checking configuration files for slapd: bdb_db_open: Warning - No DB_CONFIG file found in directory /var/lib/ldap: (2)
Expect poor performance for suffix dc=example,dc=com.

I am configuring my Apache Server to enable checking CA Revocation List, and my Configuration lists as following :
Code:
SSLCARevocationFile /etc/httpd/confi.d/ssl.crt/CRL1.crl
But the server can not start, and the log says:
Code:
Unable to configure X.509 Storage for certificate
If I try this command to view content of my CRL file :
Code:
openssl crl -text -in CRL1.crl -noout
the console shows :
Code:
error:0906D06C:PEM routines:PEM_read_bio:no start line:pem_lib:647:Expecting: X509 CRL
I think there is something wrong with my CRL file, such as the file format.Is there any requirement to the CRL file? What can I do to enable this CRL file checking?

I have a remote Lucid machine running Neatx to which I can successfully connect using the NoMachine nxclient under Windows. Using the same connection credentials under Karmic and nxclient doesn't work.
I attach screen shots of the session logs under both Windows and Karmic. They appear identical except for the 'Using shared memory parameters' field. Is this important? No authentication errors appear, so I don't think that's the problem. The Karmic session displays 'Established the display connection' and then fails after exactly one minute.

This thread (nxserver now broken?) has inspired me to install FreeNX and the client from nomachine on openSUSE-11.2 (this is the version used on both, server and client machine). The good news is: basically it works. I can connect and get the desktop. However, I have some trouble with the keyboard. Up and Down arrow keys do not work. The up arrow triggers a screen snapshot. The down arrow key does nothing. I tried to connect using qtnx as well. This does not work. Result is:

I'm running nxfree to log into my remote xubuntu PC from my local xubuntu laptop since the X protocol was broken.Has been working fine. Recently upgraded from Lucid 32bit to Maverick 64bit Xubuntu.Now when I run nxclient in fullscreen mode, if I minimize the window (or just log out) my local display does not return.I'm left with just the background colour. The windows are still there but not visible. For example I can:* randomly right-click and a menu pertaining to the invisible window appears;* press alt-tab and cycle through the windows but activating one does not display it (it remains invisible);* press ALT-F and bring up the current active (but invisible) application file menu;Basically I press ALT-F and ALT-TAB and close everything and then log out and log back in to restore the windows/panels.

when I try to su, with the right password I know it is because I have reset it with a sudo, it says su: incorrect password. Looking at /var/log/messages I see su: Unable to open admin password file: Permission denied. This must mean that the file has incorrect permissions and or owner/group. I am wondering if anyone knew where the file was located and the correct permissions/owner/group.

cups does not start with the server. When I try to start from the terminal I get the error message cupsd: Unable to read configuration file '/etc/cups/cupsd.conf' - exiting! cupsd: Child exited with status 1!
The log files show nothing. cupsd.conf exists. It is user - root and group - root with permissions set at 0644. My interpretation of this is that the program is not launching from either boot or terminal for a fundamental reason. I do not quite see what that reason is ..

I'm configuring a new Centos 5.5 server in replacement of an old W2K server.The topology of our network is simple : one file/dhcp/dns relay server and workstations (PC's and some MAC's) plus network printers and scanners.All the workstations have dynamic IP addresses (easier because a lot of 'dynamic' changes : new persons with their own laptop, ...) and the server and printers/scanners have fixed IP addresses.I edited the dhcpd.conf (see here underneath), I have the file dhcpd.leases but it doesn't start !
