I've been poking around for the last week trying to find a suitable small business accounting software that will work for us. To make a long story short I stumbled upon SQL-Ledger and it looks like a very good application just what we're looking for... and low and behold its in the repositories! Anyway I installed the SQL-Ledger package but unfortunately there's no way to load or open this app. Synaptic shows its installed but there's no gui or and reference in the menu. Searching using the filter in the menu results in nothing. So I'm assuming SGL-Ledger just needs a gui associated with it to open it right??

Since Ubuntu and other Linux Distros are free to download and distribute. Would it be illegal for me to have a Small Business of my own that would charge individuals/small-businesses to Install and Setup Linux desktops. I wasn't sure how that GPL license worked. I figured I would be charging individuals for setting up Linux Desktops on their machines or small business/offices and training/teaching them on the various applications they could install on their own.
Also, would it be illegal to create websites using Apache, Tomcat and other Open Source tools and then sell those sites. I figured many people are turned off by learning or installing something other than Windows desktops on their pcs, just because it is different. If this cannot be done under the GPL license, then could someone tell me how I could go about starting my own small business to legally Setup/Install Linux distributions.

I have been using Trixbox CE for a couple of years and a client has asked me to setup a VOIP system with two phones and a couple of extensions. When he gets hit with a borage of phone calls I need to have the call that are behind the others to go the the next extension. I need redundancy if one Internet connection goes down and have the another kick in or failover. How does one configure Trixbox to failover to the other Internet connection and can someone give me a list of carriers in the Washington D.C area. Can someone point me in the right direction?

I want to set up a home computer as server. I've installed Ubuntu Server Edition 10.04, and can access it through SSH. However, I would like to have a browser based interface for managing things, such as installing a phpBB forum and stuff like that. Also, I want my friends to be able to share files on my home server as well. I know I can do it by using FTP, but I would rather not have them to install a FTP program.

I am certainly a Linux Newbie..I have a business with a network of PCs that need not get client files corrupted by viruses & other bad things from the internet...YET I would like to let my employees(who are way worse newbies than me..om Windows even...& stand good chance to mess up computers) use internet at times if they wish. My first thought was just separate side by side PCs, one to get on for Clients/business network etc, & the other to get trashed by the internet.
What I am thinking is a better alternative (& I need to know from yall who I'm sure are way beyond this newbie whether this thinking is correct) is to put something like Puppy Linux 5.0 on small memory USB flash drives & let them each have one to use for internet, simple application functions etc. Can I safely believe that running internet browsing on the flash drive with Puppy Linux booted & running as the OS is NOT going to potentially infect my windows XP business PCs with viruses etc?

We all know we can install a linux system such as Fedora 10 and use it. Being linux, one should in principle get the source codes for everything that has been precompiled (except the proprietary drivers such as nvidia) in the installation DVDs/CDs. Where are the source codes ? Is there a place I can download them ?
To avoid confusion, I am not referring to the kernel source that can be compiled to give a linux kernel, but that does not include the drivers, such as intel_drv.so.
To be more specific, the intel graphic i810 driver has been built into any linux system, but where is the exact source? One answer may be that primary source intellinuxgraphics.com. However, if anyone tries to download the every changing (i.e., keep updated almost every single day) driver source codes from freedesktop.org, it is almost certain that the source codes will not be the same as the one that is finalized in Fedora 10.

I'm looking for a rock solid stable USB wireless driver supported in CentOS 5.2 or even 5.3 (when it's released). I'd like specific manufacturer and model recommendations if possible. I want to stay away from zd1211rw and ndiswrapper.
I've tried a zd1211rw based SMC device with miserable results. I backported the USB IDs from 2.6.25 to get it working, as well as tried the RHEL 5.3 backported module. With both, zd1211rw intermittently creates a soft lockup situation where all ptys and ttys freeze. Pings, and other non-{p,t}ty services still work okay, but I have to halt via the power switch then reboot to get things back to normal.

I'm setting up an email server for a small office and need a few specific features. I was hoping that someone might give me a few recommendations to meet the following criteria:
IMAP support anti-spam some sort of webmail client - doesn't have to be fancy, but it needs a search function graphical administration panel The last one is so that other people in the office, who aren't necessarily familiar with linux, can do some basic administration. Adding mail boxes, etc.
I've seen the guide for Postfix/Dovecot. That's great but doesn't cover everything that I need. I've also seen Zimbra, which... Well I don't know, that may work, but the open source version has some features removed and that makes me leery. Have people had good experiences with open-source Zimbra? Is it sufficiently feature-complete?
Edit: Well, looks like I just needed to do a little more searching. This seems to cover most everything:[URL]... I'd still like to hear what people have to say about Zimbra though.

We have 6 Dell r610 running CentOS 5.4 with stock kernels, with a couple of Broadcom NetExtreme II 5706c 1GB NICs in them. The NICs are flaking under load, and we'd like to try some alternative NICs (in additional to playing around with driver and firmware upgrades to see if the Netextreme II's can be made stable). Assuming we do not want to do bonding or TOE and just want basic solid transport, can anyone recommend a server NIC that is rock solid with CentOS 5.4? The goal is stable as source-able, we just want to get some baseline functionality up and running while we fight the broadcom issues.

What's happening to the console screen resolution in version 11.3? I have been using an 80x24 character console screen to run character based software and I want 80x24 to fill the whole screen. To do that, I have chosen "text mode" on the initial dvd boot up screen (F3 before choosing install). Choosing a higher resolution installation produces gui installation screens and results in console screens with progressively higher resolution, smaller type and more characters/line and lines/page, as the gui resolution increases. The installation resolution does not seem to affect the xwindows resolution. However, when I installed ver 11.3 using the text mode installation, the console screens alt-F1 to alt-F6 had very small text and the 80x24 text area fit in a small rectangle in the upper left corner of the screen. How can I fix this? My system is an Asus M4A785-M motherboard with a 2.8 ghz quad core athlon II, using the onboard ATI Radeon HD 4200 GPU.

I'm looking at various low power consumption system options for running CentOS 5 on. The goal is to get a system that draws 20 watts or less, is silent (but I'll settle for very quiet), and is fast enough to be a light duty server. The kinds of things I envisage for it are low volume mail, http, ftp, subversion, ssh, maybe samba, and perhaps asterisk if I get enthused enough. Wireless network support isn't something I'll need and realistically the system is going to spend most of its running life being idle. I don't foresee any particular need to run X on it as I imagine that if I ever need to configure something graphically I'll do so by forwarding X over ssh.
I'm leaning towards the Asus Eee Box B202 as it's readily available, seems to be in the ball park of what I want, and I see on the forums here that other people have had success running CentOS 5 on it. Still, I'd prefer a silent system (though I suspect silent systems may only be available at a premium). So I'm after war stories and recommendations. What other low power systems have you run? For the Eee Box B202 or other system what kinds of real world power usage figures have you seen with CentOS when idle and when under load? Did the system perform below your expectations? If you needed to change the hardware (say, replace or upgrade the hard drive), was that straightforward or was it a chore?

That's why I type that command and I get " $Starting Nessus : ." There is nothing like interface of this software, when I try to search GUI from synaptic package manager. So What should I do ?

I want to create a small network of 3-5 computers. I want to have one computer as my server and have services like NFS, DHCP, NTP, etc. I want to connect it to 2-4 other clients that have the bare minimal installation of linux on them. I would like 1 client computer to have a static ip address and I would like another to receive a dynamic ip address from the server. How would I go about doing all of this without the assistance of GUI's? I want to be able to do all this with the ks.cfg and network config files.

I can not seem to find a pdf viewer browser plugin other than the actual craprobat plugin from Adobe. The default Ubuntu install comes with a perfectly good open source stand alone pdf viewer, but this means that the browser has to save it to your download directory then run the external viewer, and eventually your download directory is all cluttered up. I would much rather just view the pdf in the browser. Is there no open source browser plugin?
