Ubuntu Servers :: Shows Double Sysinfo On Login?
May 1, 2011
When I SSH into any of my Ubuntu 10.04.2 LTS (x86) server installations I get TWO sysinfos. One for current time and another from April 20.
Code:
Linux ubuntusrv1 2.6.32-31-generic-pae #61-Ubuntu SMP Fri Apr 8 20:00:13 UTC 2011 i686 GNU/Linux
Ubuntu 10.04.2 LTS
Welcome to Ubuntu!

Last login: Sun May 1 08:45:53 2011 from 192.168.10.198 At first I only notices the 5 packages can be updated. But after runing apt-get update and upgrade as well as trying aptitude full-upgrade without any packages being updated I noticed the sysinfo actually showing two different days. Any idea on how to get rid of the second one?

How can I manage to avoid double login to a user account in the server by remote users? Is there a way to block it or to hide logged user accounts?
I have two server, one f12, the other f13 (behind a firewalled router) and want them to serve desktops to anybody in the local network. User accounts in both servers are established as username: user1 password: user:1 , username: user2 password: user2 ....... Every remote user should take an available user on server but no multilogin to the same user. Remote users are no adult so they can mistake. That's the problem. On the remote dektop section unmark everyone can see my desktop didnt help.

I have a virgin install of OS11.3/KDE4.41 I can find No info on how to modify the kio-sysinfo (sysinfo:/) page. On my system, I got a lot of partitions. (I triple boot 11.3, 11.2, &Win7) the sysinfo:/ page lists all partitions twice. once as a mount, and once as a device. Ideally it'd be one or the other. I'm not exactly adverse to going to the source. But, it's been a long time. know how to modify (Easily????) the info or layout of that page?

Possible Duplicate: Basic ssh tunneling through generic linux ssh server/client. I'm have trouble transfering files again from my work PC, which is a linux machine to my home windows PC.My work has changed it so I now need to SSH twice before I can access my PC.So I need to:
ssh username@server.name
password: xxxxx
I then need to do it again.
ssh computer_name
password: xxxxx
I've tried accessing directly via my computers IP but to of no avail. Is there a way I can use pscp or file zilla to ssh twice so I can transfer files?

I just added "export PATH=.:'printevn PATH'" to ~/.bashrc, then i can't use any commands, like "vim" or 'ls', it shows 'command not found'.
I cound't figure it out why. Then I logged out and tried to login. Another more serious problem occurred. after I type in login id and pass, it shows login seems to be right, but it doesn't login normally, but immediately bring me back to the login dialog box, and ask me to type log info again. I tried many times, it just constantly brought me back to the login page.

I found this page online. And I thought it was really nice, and I really like the way torrentflux was added, thats a must for me. I am wondering if there is a better approach now, or if this approach is still good, and I was just wondering if someone could double-check the code, see if its good. I have an old dell laying around, and I thought it was finally time to put it to good use. So here it is.[URL]..

Everything looks fine until when the login screen should show up but doesn't. The cursor is there and can move. I can switch to terminal by ctl-alt-F*, and login. After gdm stop and startx, gnome is back but only in fail safe mode, with non-movable non-resizable window, only one workspace, and cursor is a black cross.
I ever met a similar case before, which comes to the login screen but it keeps reloading after entering password. Finally got solved by run sudo apt-get install --reinstall ubuntu-desktop in terminal. This time it doesn't work anymore.

I installed Sysinfo 0.7, unfortunately I set 'Section to start in' to System. As some of you probably already know, and I didn't, is that there's a bug in Sysinfo, that crashes the app, when System is selected[URL]... What this means, is that I can't run Sysinfo anymore, because it crashes on startup. Starting it as superuser works, but since I use Gnome Do, I would like to launch it w/o having to go through the terminal.
What I've tried: Did a complete removal from Synaptics, thinking this would delete settings as well. It didn't. Ran locate sysinfo from terminal, looking for a settings file. no luck
My question (finally): How to I delete og change the current settings in Sysinfo for my user?

I recently upgraded to 11.2 using the net install. When I try to access sysinfo:/ in Konqueror, it gives me nothing useful. No RAM, no hard disks, or any of that. All I do get is this:
file:/usr/share/kde4/apps/sysinfo/about/style.css
My Computer
Folders, Harddisks, Removable Devices, System Information and more...
My root partition is on the hard drive that is connected to a Rosewill RC-210 sata card if that has anything to do with it.

I don't know what caused it, but as I boot into Ubuntu (9.10), the login screen never appears. Boot splash shows, then the cursor shows up but never the login screen. I haven't found anything that will reset the default gdm or login screen that works.

I am running Lucid x64 on an Gigabyte Mobo with an Intel E6500 CPU.I think this script pulls the temperature from /proc/acpi/thermal_zone. However, that directory is empty.I can get the cpu temp by using lm-sensors or by running this:
Code:
cat /sys/class/hwmon/hwmon0/device/temp1_input
Any ideas on how to get landscape-sysinfo to display the temperature

After installing Meerkat, some windows close (and take their apps along with them into oblivion E.g., when I run Applications -> System Tools -> Sysinfo, selecting the FIRST MENU OPTION, i.e., System, causes the app to close suddenly.
There are other small examples, in Firefox, e.g., but I'm not compiling a dossier here. Aside from the butt-ugly Ubuntu font, there don't seem to be (m)any major issues. Well, EXCEPT THAT MY WALLPAPERS have vanished, but I'm sure Q.A.

My laptop's been locking up in Linux (Ubuntu, Backtrack, Puppy) periodically for a while now. When it locked up, it was always immune to the magic of SysRq, which I thought might indicate a hardware problem. It became so bad that I had to stop using the laptop.
Today, when I turned it on and tried to boot into Fedora 12, I got the following error (just once, it just locked up at various points during the splash screen after this once):
double fault: 0000 [#1] SMP
last sysfs file:
CPU 0

Pid: 1, co m: swapper Not ta nted 2.6.32.11-99.fc 2.x86_64 #VGN-T 250N
RIP: 0010:[<ff
All the seemingly missing letters were really missing, not my typos.
As you can see, kernel version is 2.6.32.11-99.fc12.x86_64 and my laptop is a Sony Vaio TZ 250N (Core 2 Duo ULV 1.2GHZ). Note that with the other remaining kernels from the updates, nothing ever happened other than the locking up. The core temperatures hover pretty high, about 55-60C peak but this is still below the critical temp. Memtest came up clean when the problem first started happening.

Well this problem has been here since Lucid. When I start up my computer and select Ubuntu, I get a blinking underscore for about most of the start up time for Ubuntu. Then It quickly shows the nice Ubuntu Loading Screen (Plymouth) for about two seconds, then it gets to the login screen. I am using the Open Source ATI drivers, I believe the open drivers are called "radeon".

So I have installed LXDE on my SuSE install to have a addition to the GNOME desktop. The installation went fine (of course). But I'm now faced with a problem with the transparency in LXDE, I have a box around my cairo-dock with a piece of my login screen background (looks like the well-known black-box bug. See Screen shot). This is a bit strange and I've been looking at the solutions for the black-box bug since I've had it before, but have not found a way to sort this yetv(though i have found many solutions for the black-box bug itself).
But, not only is this box around cairo-dock, the rest of the transparency in LXDE also shows the login screen background. See screen shot. Screen shot: [URL] As you can see, i haven't had time to work on the eye-candy yet.

I tried installing 10.04 via Wubi on a friend's notebook and have hit problems with the display. The installation seemed to proceed OK (took ages to download / install - left it running overnight) until it came to boot to Ubuntu. The GRUB menu appears OK, but choosing Ubuntu leads to a blank screen with some icons at the bottom, which is displayed for a few seconds, then the (login?) screen just shows rolling display, like an out-of-tune analogue TV. I suspect that I need a graphics driver or something? The notebook is a logiQ notebook, with 128MB SiS Mirage-3 graphics.

I've checked gdmsetup and there isn't anything that I can see that keeps my general users from getting in remotely. I can get the Gnome to login as root but not as a user. SSH from PuTTY works fine for all users. The error I get actually says that the username or password is incorrect - checked using SSH and it is fine.

When I log into my Ubuntu server via SSH it usually gives me the number of available updates. But a while ago it started saying this multiple times, and with different numbers. I've tried to install the updates. But one of the messages about updates always says there's updates available. Also the number seem to be static and never change.
Example:
Code:
login as: user
user@domain's password:
Linux Inceptor 2.6.32-31-generic #61-Ubuntu SMP Fri Apr 8 18:25:51 UTC 2011 x86_ 64 GNU/Linux
Ubuntu 10.04.2 LTS

I have a problem regarding the ubuntu enterprise cloud. I have installed CC,CLC,SC,NC and a client and logged into thje user interface using my browser for the first time with bith username and passwd as admin and downloaded the credentials. But now as I try to login with the same username and passwd, it says that its an invalid login. I understand we have to change the password on the first login but i don't remember doing the same.
I tried recover password option and gave the user name as admin and email address as my gmail id. It says that I have to follow the instructions sent to the mail, but there is no mail sent I have done it like 5 or 6 times with different mail ids

I just built a new 10.04 server. It has a 500Gb drive for the operating system and a 22 Terabyte drive that will be used for data. When I format the data partition, it only shows 2.2Tb available. I have this formatted as ext4. I know there is a 16Tb limit and I am going to repartition my drives, but shouldn't I at least be seeing 16Tb instead of 2.2

I'm hosting a server with Ubuntu 10.04. I've stumbled upon a strange problem. The server seems to refuse any login attempts, either with SSH or via a TTY after a reboot. After a couple of minutes (about 10 minutes or so) I able to login. The memory usage isn't high at login nor the system load. The auth.log doesn't show any login attempt before.problem? Or does anybody have a suggestion I could try to fix this?

Vsftpd virtual users, when a user connects via of ftp they can view all files in the file system. Have a virtual web server and vsftpd working, each user's username is their domain name. FTP works, but not the way I wish for it to work. I only wish for a user to be able to view the files under their username, not the entire Fedora file system and limit changes to files ONLY under their domain name.
