CentOS 5 :: Can External Sun UltraSCSI Ufs Disk Be Mounted On CentOS

Jun 26, 2011

I need to read information from SUN hard disks which are about a decade old. My CentOS 5.6 mount command comes from util-linux 2.13-pre7."mount -t ufs -o ufstype=sun /dev/sdb2 /New" reports "mount: unknown filesystem type 'ufs'", though its man page describes such settings.How could I read an external UltraSCSI hard disk (yes: high pitch noise and only 9 GB capacity) on a current CentOS? Is that possible at all?

CentOS 5 :: Install CentOS 5.2, And The Installation Ran Out Of Disk Space After Running For About 2 Hours?

Feb 18, 2010

I am trying to install CentOS 5.2, and the installation ran out of disk space after running for about 2 hours.I checked the FAQ, and it said 1.2 GB. The disk is 3 GB. The default install was selected, and I think that it checks for sufficient available disk space before installing. Still, it ran for quite a while before announcing that it was out of disk space.The Installation Guide is not very helpful, since there is a blank page where the disk space requirement is supposed to be. I just picked the default installation. A search of the forums on "not enough disk space" did not return much.

CentOS 5 Hardware :: Installing CentOS 5.3 Using Custom ISO And Drive Disk?

Nov 10, 2009

I am having new hardware and IDE driver for that hardware as drive disk image (it8213_centos53.img). CentOS 5.3 installation is working fine with drive disk image at USB and CentOS 5.3 at DVD. Our application uses CentOS 5.3 and we build a custom kick-start ISO for installations. Using that ISO client is going to install on all hardware boxes.

Note while installing :
a) No network connection is avalible.
b) No USB isavalible.
c) No floppy is avalible.
d) Only single CD-ROM is avalible.

So, is it possible to build single custom kick-start CentOS 5.3 ISO which contains dirve disk image and entire installation will be done using that image. If so please let me know the steps to build it.

CentOS 5 :: Running Centos From USB As Hard Disk?

Sep 1, 2010

I have seen that is possible to boot from a USB stick and use a USB memory as hard drive.I have a server enable to hold 6 sata drives 3.5", But I want to use the 6 drives and make a Raid-5 setup for backups 5 -1 spare. /boot cannot be on a raid-5 level 0 or 1. But I want to have redundancy for my OS, them I can install Centos on a Raid-1 using 2 disk, which let me only 4 for the raid 5. I will run a backup I want to have a lot of space.

Using 4 disk for raid-5 2 TB I will have 6TB no spare, no spare is not a good option at least I will prefer 1 spare.Well, I was thinking, the server MoBo have USB support, if I open the box I can see the small entrances, If Centos let me installed on a USB memory drive, can I trust a USB memory stick?t night with bacula.

CentOS 5 :: DRBD Mounted Partition Not Updating?

Nov 4, 2009

I've been working at creating a highly available set of host servers for a linux diskless boot cluster.Each host machine is fitted with redundant power supplies and two 1TB drives in a Raid-1 configuration.When I first started this project they each had twin 160GB drives. In my original setup I had both nodes acting as primary systems so that I could mount /dev/drbd0 to my /data directory and see changes immediately.It had worked in the past where I could make a file in /data on the first machine and it would show up in the /data directory on the second machine. One day this had stopped working where if I made a file on the first machine it would display on the second one until I unmounted /data and remounted it to the /dev/drbd0 disk.

This is when I bought the new disks and decided to start from scratch. The weird thing is that if I make a file on the primary and remount on the secondary to see it and then delete it from the secondary and THEN delete it on the primary, the primary throws no error however it goes into read-only mode because it knows that file was already gone.Below is my configuration file, sda8 is an 820GB partition which is used for all of the data I want to replicate, currently populated with ~10GB of data. Sda7 is my metadisk partition which is 500MB large clearly more than needed by drbd.Also you will notice "incon-degr-cmd "halt -f";" is commented out. This is because when I go to actually use it drbd throws an error when reloading the configuration and I'm not sure why that is either

resource r0 {
protocol C;
#incon-degr-cmd "halt -f";

CentOS 5 :: NFS Mounted Directory Owned By Avahi-autoipd

Apr 15, 2009

I'm having trouble with an NFS mounted directory on a newly installed 5.3 server.

The directory mounts fine using this command:

However I cannot write to the directory despite it being mounted RW and having read-write access on the host (a Netapp Filer). If I check permissions on the mounted directory, I see it is owned by 'avahi-autoipd':

I have disabled the avahi-daemon in chkconfig, although it wasn't running to begin with. Any idea why this directory would be owned by avahi-autoipd and whether or not that has anything to do with why I can't write to the mounted directory?

CentOS 5 Server :: NFS Mount Of Loop Mounted ISO's Showing No Files

Jul 16, 2009

I'm having a problem accessing files via nfs where an iso has been mounted through the loop device on the nfs server. Basically what I am attempting to do is access the 6 CentOS 5.2 ISO's via NFS from one of my client machines. The client is able to mount the share and see its sub directories leading up to the mount point of the ISO, but the contents of the mounted ISO image are simply not visible (on the client, they are visible on the server).

Server config (CentOS 5):

/etc/fstab:
/home/user/iso/CentOS-5.2-x86_64-bin-1of7.iso /exportiso/centos/x64/5.2/disc1 iso9660 defaults,loop 0 0

[code].....

NFS is working correctly for other mounts between these two boxes, however.

CentOS 5 :: Installed 5.3 On An External USB Drive But Can't Boot From It

Oct 5, 2009

I recently installed CentOS 5.3 (from DVD media) on a Seagate 320GB external USB drive; this drive is connected to an Intel-based desktop computer (Intel D945GNT motherboard) with two internal SATA drives (both NTFS, as I'm running Windows XP SP3 as my primary OS). The install found the USB drive fine, and I manually configured my partitions; I had the install place the boot loader in the first sector of the boot partition of the external USB drive. I had set my BIOS to boot from the USB drive first; after a reboot, nothing happened...no GRUB menu, nada.

After some research, I had found an article discussing the need to rebuild the initrd for USB drive support. So, I booted the computer from the CentOS DVD, then went into 'linux rescue' mode; once I was at a command prompt, I navigated to the /boot directory and executed the following command:

mkinitrd --with-usb --preload=ehci-hcd --preload=usb-storage --preload=scsi_mod --preload=sd_mod ./usbinitrd-2.6.18-128.el5 2.6.18-128.el5

After the new "usbinitrd" was created, I edited grub.conf to reflect the new image, then attempted the reboot again from the USB drive. Still no GRUB menu.
