View 2 Replies View RelatedI have been trying to install centos5.3 with an remote hdd (via ISCSI with Intel Nic and remote iscsi boot). If I install the centos with default partitioning (LVM, just /, swap, and /boot partitions), everything installs fine. However, if I install with custom partitions, particularly putting /var and /usr in their own partitions, I get all sorts of error during reboots. It tells me that the system cannot touch a couple files (in /var and /usr) because they do no exist. However, after boot, I can see these files and they existThe following files I can see so far that are being reported missing at boot are:
/var/run/getkey_done
/var/log/dmesg
/var/lock/subsys/kudzu

I have just finished an install of Cent 5.5. I loaded up a trunk for a software application I want to compile on cent, but I cannot read the .cpp files. The issue seems to be with the file extension. If I change the extension to .txt, they open just fine. My .FOR, .FPP, and .DAT files display fine, but the .cpp and .h give me an error, "Couldn't display...". What is the problem here that won't let me open these files in gedit?
View 5 Replies View RelatedNewbie here! Our website CMS is a Tomcat webapp, which runs on a CentOS 5.6 release (Final). The webapp needs a permanent increase of the max. open files value. Currently, the site is "crashing" frequently due to continuous "Too many open files" exceptions that eventually will occur when traffic increases.
This is what I've done to try to increase the max. open files value code...
But still, when I log in (as any user, incl. root), ulimit -n shows 1024, not 16384. Am I missing something here? And, more importantly; Will Tomcat be able to open > 1024 files after my changes mentioned above?
(PS: I also tried rebooting, but no difference.)
i have one big pdf file that i made from 272 Photos. Heard that djvu format is better at compression than pdf. But have no clue how to use it. I have in synaptic installed pdf2djvu package, and it is in /usr/bin, but have no idea how to use it
View 6 Replies View RelatedThere are quite a few threads in this forum on how to convert a DJVU file into a PDF (among which this thread the instruction of which I followed.) I converted a DJVU file by printing it to a PS file from the Document Viewer. Then I printed again the PS to file into a PDF from that same application. The second phase took more than 24 hours and resulted in a scanned PDF of less than 500 pages with a size of 315 MB! I have many books of more pages which come down to 1 MB only. What happened in the process to make it so damn slow and so inefficient? Is there a good alternative (not ps2pdf because it provides the same result)?
View 1 Replies View RelatedWhat happens is that I like the djvu format (a lot!), and I'd like to export all my pdf books (I'm studying the university and I have a lot of pdf books) to djvu format. The problem is that I found very uncomfortable to read a djvu book (with hundreds of pages) without the help of bookmarks or index.I have found some djvu files with bookmarks and that's why I believe that there is a way to do this.I found an application called djvubookmarker on sourceforge.net , but this application only works on Windows OS (and doesn't work really good, it has some bugs) so I haven't used wine to use this application with my Ubuntu.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI've downloaded some files from the Internet Archive. They come in different file formats and most of the time I use pdf. However, sometimes the scans are saves in colour instead of b/w. This makes it difficult/impossible to read on a dedicated ebook reader. In that case I downloaded the djvu files as on the PC you can select which layer (color, bw,fore, back) one would like to see. Selecting the bw gives excellent results. However, the ebook reader does not has this option.
The question is, how can I remove /extract a layer from the djvu file and save only this layer.
So far I've tried the following two approaches:
1) select bw in the djvu viewer on the PC and printed to postscript file. Followed by a ps2pdf conversion. This works, but generates a fairly large pdf file. Sure, I can again upload it to any2djvu but it just seems to much manual work for each file.
2) I tried the shared annotation feature and said (mode bw). This works on the PC as desired but is ignored on the ebook reader as the other layers are still present.
I've downloaded a book with djvu compression.how will I extract it .I'm using RHEL5 SERVER.

When I try to open any nfs-mounted file using OpenOffice, I get a pop-up window titled "Document in Use". The text of the message is:
"Document file 'abcde.odt' is locked for editing by:
Unknown User
Open document read-only or open a copy of the document for editing." I then have three options - <Open Read-Only>, <Open Copy>, & <Cancel> If I cp any of these files from the mounted directory to my home dir (not mounted), I can open them without problem. Also, my firefox & thunderbird date are in this mounted directory as well (sym links to ~dan/.mozilla & ~dan/.thunderbird). Both of these apps hang when trying to open, leaving two processes behind that need to be manually killed. Again, cp'ing the data out of the nfs-mounted dir onto a local dir resolves the issue, so I am 100% confident there is nothing missing or corrupted in the firefox &/or thunderbird data...

I have a while(1) loop, and the error is: glibtop: open (/proc/stat): Too many open files This error occurs after about a half hour to an hour of running. I've tried running this multiple times, both with using glib_close() at the end of the loop, using glib_init() and glib_close() at beginning/end, and just using glib_init(). The strange thing is these have no effect on the actual glib_get functions.

How do you convert Open Office (ODT) documents to Text files?
I have made a report using libre office. Now I wish to continue editing the document using lyx (latex front end). So the ODT file needs to be saved as some .tex file.
I don't see an option to do this in File menu (export/save as). So is there any other plugin to do this?
I just installed the nmap for port scanning and then run ./configure , make , make install command respectively. It works and then I successfully installed nmap under /usr/local/bin . nmap is a executable file not .exe . so my question is how can I open it .

Why does centos-release-notes have any dependancies ?
I can see no reason why centos-relese-notes should depend on centos-release when I try "yum erase centos-release-notes" I am told there are 72 dependancies including completely irrelevant packages such as tar all because of this unnecessary dependancy.
The centos-release-notes package simply contains a bunch of text/html files that nothing else relies upon, so why the dependancies ?
