I installed a second hard drive to my CentOS box. In the LVM GUI tool i see the hard drive but the "Initialize Entity" button is grayed out. I am not very familiar with using the LVM tool so i am not sure what to do from here.

The server's os is CentOS 4.7 x86_64, I tried to google for the answer, but had no anything useful information.
I have been beating my head against a wall with this for more than an hour.... I purchased a new Ethernet Card to bump up the other side of my network from 10/100 to Gigabit. I previously had a 3c905c 3com card in there before. the chipset I purchased was a realtek 8169 Gigabit..... I removed the old card and put the new one in. Then I ran netconfig but realized that it was holding onto eth0 with 3com's MAC address, so I went and removed the /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0 file. did a service network restart no eth0 trying to start - perfect... I reran netconfig and configured eth0 with all it settings "Netconfig Did recognise the Realtek 8169"
I saw device not initalized when doing an ifup eth0 So I lsmod and saw the 3com module still running - removed the module rmmod 3com - and checked for 8169 - not running... modprobe 8169 and then checked.. bingo its running... service network restart - same error r8169 device eth0 does not seem to be present... delaying initialization. ok - eff it - ill reboot It came up same thing - did not expect it to change... checked /etc/modprobe.conf - i see its aliased... Verified all things are running... I really don't know where to turn... Im sure I could just call it eth2 but then im going to be rewriting all my iptables "firewall rules" and im trying to avoid that.... ** yes I know I could just use sed to replace all eth0 with eth2 ** but then im not learning why and what i am missing...

I have a clean install of Fedora 12 and trying to mount a second hard disk with data created under Fedora 8. Nautilus lists the hard disk and can see all the folders and files under Places > Computer. However, Nautilus only lists hte hard disk (/dev/sdc) but no partitions (e.g. sdc1, sdc2) under Filesystem. LVM shows Partition1, Partition2 and UnPartitioned space under /dev/sdc. LVM shows Partition2 as 'uninitialized Disk Entity /dev/sdc2'. If I try to 'Block Initialize' Partition2 (which is the largest listed partition), LVM warns all data in the partition will be erased. A partition with all the data is on the hard disk because Nautilus can see it but the partition is not listed under /dev/sdc so I can mount it.

We purchased a virtual server from GoDaddy (1 month trial) to set up as a proxy for our networks (24 of them). I am having 2 separate issues. The first is I can't configure/install NAT and support is telling me the only way I can is to purchase a dedicated server. Here's the error:

I have burned an iso image onto a disk in order to install flashplayer on my linspire system. i saved the tar.gz to /home/myname/easyiso. what's the next step? I realize I need to learn a LOT of language and procedural material in order to really begin command line operations; this is how I'm getting started. After I double click it's shortcut it takes LibreOffice Writer 35 seconds to come up fully. I've reinstalled it, played with the memory settings, no change. If I turn on quickstarter it works fine but as many people have noted, you have to turn quickstarter off before you shutdown otherwise the system hangs.
I would like LibreOffice to initialize within 10 seconds and be able to do a shutdown by just clicking shutdown.

I have a PS/2 mouse, a PS/2 to USB adapter, and a USB port on my Dell Inspiron 1100 laptop. The adapter has trouble initializing, whether I have it plugged in at boot time or I plug it in later. Sometimes it initializes okay, but usually it doesn't. That means that I have to keep unplugging it and plugging it back in until it initializes. Sometimes it just works; sometimes it works after a few plugs, but sometimes after plugging it in a few dozen times I give up. Once it is initialized, it works fine until I shut down. Also, once it works, I can unplug it and plug it back in, and it will initialize properly each time from then on.
