CentOS 5 :: WARNING: At Fs/dquot.c:814 Dquot_claim_reserved_space()?
May 6, 2011
I have a CentOS 5.6 x64 server getting TONS of these errors showing up in the syslog. Not sure exactly what is causing them. I have run file system checks on all the ext4 partitions and they came back clean. The host is running in a VMWare ESXi virtual machine, with its virtual disks residing on VMFS file systems, if that helps. None of my other Linux VMs are getting these errors.

I have been updating my system and making a few changes and now I have a serious problem with GNOME (as far a I understand). In the Desktop if I try to start some applications such as the text editor gedit it crashes and won't start. Some applictions start from the menu some don't (e.g. services) and others start and then crash if I try to example manipulate them (e.g. open a file in openoffice).
In the case of gedit if I try to run it from the command line as root I get the following
# gedit
(gedit:6475): GnomeUI-WARNING **: While connecting to session manager: Authentication Rejected, reason : None of the authentication protocols specified are supported and host-based authentication failed.Illegal instruction [code]....
When I try to start the services (i.e. /usr/bin/system-config-services) I get:
Mar 20 00:35:54 ##### kernel: system-config-s[6536] trap invalid opcode rip:3e18ffd008 rsp:7fffeeffdb30 error:0
in /var/log/messages

I am trying to determine if I should upgrade PHP's PEAR on my server. I am trying to check the version of PEAR currently installed. I am getting the following error when I use the pear -V command:
Warning: realpath(): open_basedir restriction in effect. File(/tmp) is not within the allowed path(s): (/usr/share/pear:/usr/share/php) in System.php on line 459
I tried adding /tmp to my php.ini file, but then when I use the pear -V command it doesn't do anything. I do not get any errors or anything. I am also trying to install symfony and have the same situation described above when I use the following command: pear cannel-discover pear.symfony-project.com

I am running Nagios on CentOS. Everything is working fine, all my clients status is ok. One thing which is confusing me is "Root Partition WARNING" on my own server which has Nagios installed. I think that these things are controlled by nrpe, which is installed in clients servers. what i want to know is how i manage my own server, in which config files i have to make changes?

Since a few days I get a warning in the login screen: User's $HOME/.dmrc file is being ignored. This prevents the default session and language from being saved. File should be owned by user and have 644 permissions. User's $HOME directory must be owned by user and not writable by other users" see this snapshot: [URL]... first of all: Why does this warning appear now. My centOS is running fine since a few months.
Secondly: All requirements mentioned in the warning are valid:
Yes, I owned the file exclusively with rw permissions and I owned the parent directory. So whats the error here? Can I simply delete the file $HOME.dmrc? What exactly is saved in this file?

I tried posting this before and I'm not sure what happened but I don't think it worked, so if it did please forgive the double post.am very very new to centOS and linux in general. I just want to setup a test web server that more closely mirrors our actual web server that is hosted by rackspace. I've installed centOS and tried to setup Apache, PHP and MySQL from a guide on the web using Yum. When I go to localhost in the web browser I'm able to see the default apache page. However when I create a php page it's just blank. When I look at the apache error logs I get this: PHP Warning: Unknown: failed to open stream: Permission denied in Unknown on line 0
I've been searching alot on the internet and I know the issue is permission related, but I don't know how to fix it. I've seen some forum posts that say you need to use the chmod 775 command on the /var/www/html folder.Currently when I do ls -l /var/www/html it returns
-rw------- 1 root root 19 May 5 13:16 index.php
-rw------- 1 root root 19 May 5 13:15 index.php~
I'm sure that this isn't correct but like I said I don't know much about how to set permissions or who the owner needs to be. I've done alot of searching and seen similar posts, but no one seems to explain it clearly.

Do I say yes or no to this? I don't know what it is.

I am trying to zip up my Home directory (zip -r -9 /Destination /home/joe) & when I do I get the error below in a constant loop until I hit ctrl-c to stop. This use to work fine. The only change I made lately was change the permissions to 700 but I don't see how this would do anything.Quote:

For example, the gparted application menu item doesn't work; using it means that there is almost no filesystem support. The only way to get it to work is to open a terminal, run 'su -', and then open it from there. As another example, I tried creating a nautilus script to open files as root with a command like this:
Code:
for uri in $NAUTILUS_SCRIPT_SELECTED_URIS; do
gnomesu -c "gnome-open '$uri'"
done
When I try using it, it just fails. Typing out the command in the terminal gives this (tested on a text file):
Code:
No protocol specified
(gedit:13672): Gtk-WARNING **: cannot open display: :0
I'm pretty sure the problem is that it's granting privileges, but not using the full root environment, or something along those lines.

This does not happen from my user profile....xhost + actually solves the issue....so I guess I just need to add the host root to the list of hosts allowed to access the x server...
I try xhost +root......but that does not work....

Since a few days all of my computers (3) running Ubuntu 9.10 report on startup that my external drive has "lots of bad sectors".I have checked this disk on Windows XP with chkdsk and with the SeaTools diagnostic tool dowloaded from Seagate. Both report no problems.Does anyone else suspect these Ubuntu "bad sector" warnings are unreliable?
