I ordered my VPS and it came preconfig with CentOS 5 + VNC. I am able to connect to it via RealVNC on my Windows host. I get to my desktop but since it minimal no web browser. Anyone have a command I can run to install Firefox. Or is there another method. I can download from within.
This is what I did till now and all was installed with success: yum update wget [URL] yum install lighttpd chkconfig --levels 235 lighttpd on /etc/init.d/lighttpd start Must I configure something else too? if yes... what?
I installed CentOS. NetworkManager successfully installed and launched. I can ping any IP from terminal but I can't open any site in browser except 127.0.0.1 I can't open IP of the modem 192.168.1.1 in browser also.
I was trying to have access from a browser to the squirrelmail configtest page in my server, making some changes, I accidentaly remove the directory webmail. After I replace it with a backup apache2 can not start. This is what I have. Syntax error on line 281 of /etc/apache2/apache2.conf: Syntax error on line 1 of [URL].. closed. But I am sure there is a ?> at the end of this file.Base on what I read on [URL]...-with-the-tag/ I test without the ?> also, but I got the same error.
I installed a server called Oracle VM Manager, which is actually a web based application to manage Oracle VM server. After successfully installed everything, it suppose to be access by browser using But strange thing is, I can see web pages from the server itself with but any other machines to access it with hostname or ip address all failed.
I've installed CentOS 5.3+ xampp 1.7.2 (apache, proftpd and php5) +postgresql 8.4. And some strange errors appear from time to time, but can't reproduce it by wish. For example client opens a webpage on CentOS, the page can be open many times, but in some moment browser gives error as for non-existing page and when I check lampp's logs, there is only a record in error_log "[notice] child pid NNNN exit signal Segmentation fault (11)".
Or another example: client opens ssh-connection and ftp-connection. When ftp-connection got timed out and server closes it, ssh-connection unexpectedly gets closed the same moment without any errors in logs. And again it happens not everytime, but cannot be related to physical network because the same server on the same network with Fedora never had such errors. Possibly xampp-1.7.2 is not too compatible with CentOS 5.3? How to get more info from system in this case?

I have a linux server , there are many files in it , I want to let the user to use browser ( windows ) to access the files to upload / download files , as below command , the user can access the path in the server "linuxserver".
I'm running Fedora 10 with apache and I installed mod_dav_svn so that I could set up a secured remote code repository. It appeared to be working ok until I turned on SSL and basic Authentication.I even verified in my subversion.conf httpd configuration file that it is pointing to the correct password file. When I attempt to access it from my web browser, it prompts me for a user name and password, but it will not let me log in. I tried to disable SSL thinking that that might have been the problem, but I get the same results either way. Can anyone please help me resolve this problem?
I just set up my first server in my home with Ubuntu Server Edition, and I'm in the process of installing Jinzora on it. However, I cannot access the server through my web browser like I believe I should. Is it not just URL...?I am very much a server newbie, do I need to install another application to view my server in a web browser? I am able to connect through SSH just fine.
When my internet is slow & i try to open a web page then I get message in my firefox 3.6.3 that 'can't find server at www.website.com'. It isn't that URL is wrong but maybe connection to DNS server is slow or something similiar. I remember that wget tries 20 times by default to get the file (browsing is downloading+ decoding+ displaying).Does any web browser or addon tries repeatedly till it is successful in contacting website server? It can tell me 'trying nth attempt at www.website.com'
I have created a php page with only PHP Code: <? php echo "OK"; ?> in the code. When I go to that page in a browser, I get a blank page. Is that normal, or am I suppose to see the word "OK" displayed in a browser? When I became curious, I open up Wireshark to capture the packets, I see that my server is giving out a "HTTP/1.0 500 Internal Server Error".
Here's the entire tcp stream: Code: GET /services/test.php HTTP/1.1 Host: 192.168.1.5 User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.1; en-US; rv:1.9.2.3) Gecko/20100401 Firefox/3.6.3 Accept: text/html,application/xhtml+xml,application/xml;q=0.9,*/*;q=0.8 Accept-Language: en-us,en;q=0.5 Accept-Encoding: gzip,deflate Accept-Charset: ISO-8859-1,utf-8;q=0.7,*;q=0.7 .....

Browser can't find server at att.yahoo.com so no internet. My folding at home client with Stanford can't download {an upload went ok}. I have 2 other fedora boxes & 3 windows boxes thru the same router and they are all fine.
I can manually ping Stanford ok, Add/remove software within fed. works ok. I can type in 192.168.0.1 & get the page for my router The only thing I did between working & not working was to install Nvidia Cuda driver for my GTX275
My guess is something in the firewall got tweaked. but I've compared it to 2 working boxes & nothing jumps out at me.
It resides at 65.211.112.135 There are numerous domain names on this ip [URL]s Those are a few of them. Now if you try to ping 65.211.112.135 it does not respond, if you ping "www.barrierfree.us" it says pinging 65.211.112.135 but it also does not respond. BUT if you point your browser to one of the above domain names it will work, but it is quite slow.
I'm going away for the weekend and will only be able to bring my laptop that has the latest release of Ubuntu on it. My question is: will i be able to access my company's Terminal Server site [URL] from browser in Linux, and be able to launch the applications? (Outlook, etc.) Seems to connect to Windows Server 2008. If this works in Linux, that would make my life a lot easier..
One of my user wants to be able to upload file via browser to the server. For that, i need to grant apache read and write access to a folder. How much secure is allowing apache to grant complete read and write access to a folder ?
I have Fedora Core 13 running. I have successfully (I think) installed squid, although I may have it configured incorrectly. I can ssh into the box from work via putty, but I can't use the proxy. I get a message "the connection to the server was reset while the page was loading" I can use the proxy from my home network, and have watched the tcpdump for port 3128 while using the proxy. I have turned off iptables completely (I'm not sure yet how to just allow squid)...
I have installed mysql package in ubuntu 9.04 .I have also installed the query browser software can someone tell me how to configure the connection dialogue box in query browser. also my friend is using ubuntu 8.04 when he writes mysql in terminal he can directly execute database queries there but when i try the same thing on 9.04 i get an error as "Access denied for user 'ravi'@'localhost' (using password: NO)"
I have a personal apache server with php5 module in it that I have set to host user directories Host/~username. When I introduce any errors to the php file, such as echo "Syntax error; , I get a blank white screen. The error exists in the apache log file in /var/log.
I have found the php.ini file in and found every occurance of "error" in it and set it to "On" or E_ALL depending on what the argument wants. I still get a white screen.
I have to set up a proxy for my work's network. No computer except the proxy has a direct internet connection. The proxy will NOT be transparent so it authenticates with Active Directory and allows or denies pages. The squid proxy is up, and working accordingly, denying and allowing what's needed to who's needed. BUT! Thunderbird and Outlook didn't work, so in less than 10 minutes I was forced to fall back.
I read googling a lot, and searching a bit here about socks, which seems to be what I need but also that squid is already a socks proxy. Web pages were the concern, it's not needed that other stuff is authenticated, it might as well be transparent for Outlook, Thunderbird and other programs *for example, it's not needed to block a Warcraft III game, though, allowing it explicitly is not the point either* but as of now, none can connect *haven't actually tried Warcraft though, but stuff like Adobe's updater didn't work either and I recall someone mentioned Windows Live messenger didn't either* The Squid Proxy is a CentOS.
