I have a dedicated host on my lan to monitor other hosts/services using Nagios. I'm in the process of migrating to Zabbix on that host to perform the same purpose. Both Nagios and Zabbix monitor icmp ping latency (Nagios uses ping, Zabbix uses fping) and over time the latency to other hosts grows until threshold alarms are triggered. In one week, the average latency grows from sub-millisecond to over 100 milliseconds, and continues to grow until the Nagios host is rebooted. I have verified the latency numbers using ping/fping from the command line on the Nagios host.
The problem is that pings from the monitored hosts to the Nagios host show normal latency at the time the Nagios host is showing high latency from itself to the monitored hosts. The Nagios host and monitored hosts are all connected to the same Dell 24 port gigabit switch. I already posted this question on the Zabbix forums with a graph of the latency but there were no answers. [URL] why the icmp ping latency is growing over time and how I can fix it short of rebooting the host on a schedule.

I started seeing error log entries to this effect once we ported a Tomcat webapp, which connects to a remote database, from Tomcat 5 to Tomcat 6.0.26, but it seemed relatively harmless until now. The error we got at first was:

I have a CentOS 5.3 server. All of the other computers I have are Windows or Ubuntu. The Ubuntu machines sync to the time on the CentOS machine correctly. The problem is, some of the windows 2000 Pro and Windows XP Pro machines are an hour off when they sync. The CentOS machine is set to New York time.
When I run: (Assume the time is currently 10:06 AM on the server) net time \xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx /set /yes
On the correct machines I get the message:
Current time at \xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is 11/1/2010 10:06 AM
The command completed successfully.
But on the other machines I get:
Current time at \xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is 11/1/2010 9:06 AM
Local time (GTM-04:00) at \xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is 11/1/2010 10:06 AM
The command completed successfully.
Then the time on the windows computer is 9:06 instead of 10:06.
Is there something that needs changed on the CentOS Machine for the times to be correct?

I just installed centos 5.1 on my laptop. Then i upgraded it to 5.3. The problem that i am facing is that at a time only one application can use the audio device. Is this some kind of driver problem or an error in Centos? If one application is using the audio device and if i start the other application that also want to use the audio device it simply gives an error like audio device is locked by other application and is muted. In windows XP my audio device is shown as Sigmatel Audio.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am hosting two Virtual Servers both running Centos 5.3 on a host machine also running the same OS. The VM software in use is Xen, as supplied with the OS.The host machine's time and date is fine, however both Virtual Servers are running ahead of real time consitantly.Running /etc/init.d/ntpd restart will resolve the issue however one of these is running MailScanner and when the time suddenly goes backwards, sometimes by as much as an hour, it stops working properly.

I've read many guides but nothing too specific as to what I need to do. I want to use either sendmail or postfix, but I don't know if I should purchase an SMTP relay. If anyone could point me in the right direction it would be great. I also have bought a domain name that I want to use, but I just cant put all these pieces together as of right now.

Everything halts as if the system is having a kernel panic or worse -- even the clock halts. Around 13 seconds pass, everything returns to normal (the clock then jumps 13 seconds ahead, as well), and from the kernel pool log (dmesg) I observe this:

I have tried to update the graphics drivers to the latest version, to no avail. I also have no idea how this issue started in the first place. I use Slackware 13.1.0 on a fast x86 (4.1 GHz Core i7, 6 GiB RAM, SSD, GTX480, etc.). There are no other known issues with the system. I don't use any sort of package managers or automatic updates. This issue happens regardless of whether the media played is physically local on the computer, or if it is on a network.

Now these same messages are filling up my messages log and it's running non stop in the background. Has anyone seen anything on this error? I have searched through Google looking for help and I'm not finding much.
This box is a simple file/web server with no monitor hooked up and no GUI. I have also included the lspci ouput below if that might help. Really looking for any suggestions or input on how I might stop the error reporting since is filling up my log files quickly.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI was using Red Hat 7.3 forever and decided it was time for a change. I went to Fedora 10 but it was really buggy. CentOS 5.2 is VERY stable.Here is my problem.The server is command line only -- I tend to hate GUI"S.I setup Samba no problem disabling the ports needed through the firewall and that was straightforward.CUPS is a nightmare for me since CentOS locks down the cupsd.conf and then the firewall does its thing. I allowed port 631 through the firewall but then got lost on the cupsd.conf. It's been too long and the old redhat one won't work with CentOS (not surprising since it's a VERY old system) straight-forward CUPS tutorial for a command line interface. I just need it to be:
a) do this
b) do that
I have some virtual machines running with CentOS 5.3 (32 bit) and everything works as expected. To test a possible upgrade I took one of then and did yum clean all yum update after rebooting I get a kernel panic with the following message:
