CentOS 5 :: 2 Websites Accessing Same Mysql Db Configuration?

I have set up two identical websites and want them to access the same mysql database. I've entered the username/password/db name in the website database.inc file. However, one database works fine and displays correctly, the other just gives a blank page. I've tested apache and it can display a different site (one that does not access any db). So is there a configuration that i'm missing. Do i have identify the two different websites that access the db?

I am having no luck configuring ProFTPd on a Debian Lenny production server we use to host our MySQL databases and a few websites. I had originally set it up so I could login and manage our internal sites, but I have the need to allow a few clients in to access their sites that we host. I am trying to root the users in their site directory, which would be "/sites/www.whatever.com/".
It just hit me while typing this. Is it possible to create a user without a shell to prevent login via SSH and set the home folder to /sites/whatever instead of /home/username? That would allow me to continue operating with my current configuration and root them in their site while preventing SSH logins.

I have an application running on a centOS machine that needs to access a database on a CentOS server. I granted access to all users with a certain user name and password.i opened up port 3306 as well with the following command: /sbin/iptables -A INPUT -i eth0 -p tcp --destination-port 3306 -j ACCEPTbut whenever i try to connect from my machine i get an error:ERROR 2003 (HY000): Can't connect to MySQL server on '172.16.102.129' (113)I am using mysql version 5.0.77 on centOS 5.5.

I have installed debian on my laptop and included during the installation the webserver version. Now I want to develop a page locally to test it before I put it on the web. I first had an old reflex, jumping straight away and installing xampp. But then I thought that I already all that it takes as I installed the webserver feature of debian. I installed phpmyadmin ( with the command #apt-get install phpmyadmin) as to be able to create and attribute databases but when I try to log in I have the following message:
"Error
#2002 - The server is not responding (or the local MySQL server's socket is not correctly configured)"
I googled but I cannot find the mysql.conf (I searched using "find") but with no result. It is all very blury what is going on with this webserver option running on my laptop...

I have dual boot Fedora 8/XP. My net seams to be moody only in my fedora sometimes I have wait as long as 30 sec for the page to load where as in my windows it's fine no such delay. This happens randomly yesterday night I had tough time accessing this forum (in addition to other sites) now it's working fine.

I currently have a single mysql instance for a couple of websites. Both websites require that the user provide a username.
The thing I just noticed is that two people might choose the same username for both applications. Both of them would have grants to each others' tables, although neither would ever be able to access them, since they can only access through php scripts.
But, I'm now guessing this is not best practice. What does one do? Run multiple instances of mysql for several websites?

I need to Install MySql Server somewhere that I can access. Instead on installing it in a Windows box like I have for years, I'm thinking of putting it on a Ubuntu Server box (or virtual machine) instead. Should I do it on a Ubuntu Server or a Ubunto desktop box? I have never installed Ubuntu as a server, is it more or less the same as installing the desktop version? Lastly, is there multiple versions of Ubuntu where one might be more appropriate than another? All I want is a machine that I can access MySql via an IP address. Don't need DHCP, dns, Mail server or anything.

I just configured a complete Cent OS 5.2 system for use as a web server. I can configure Apache and PHP but MySQl seems to be causing some issues -

i find this is an issue which might be tiresome for everyone except for those experts. Esp. for the computers which are dual booting(both windows xp and centos installed in the same computer), that when we are in CentOS we need to switch onto windows immediately. and vice versa. i see this is possible only by shutting down the centos/windows and then restarting onto the other OS.
Can anyone tell me the the solution to work simultaneously both xp and centos without the need of shutting down and restarting There maybe or may not be the solution...but i find the pleasure to know if there is for example, remote desktop connection in windows xp, is there any solution, we can work on windows via centos or vice versa ( in the same machine),

I am trying to install php-mysql but I am getting conflicts. I manually installed
MySQL-shared-community-5.1.32-0.rhel5
MySQL-client-community-5.1.32-0.rhel5
MySQL-server-community-5.1.32-0.rhel5
and I can not seem to find a php-mysql that works with MySQL 5.1
I followed the below thread and added the CentOS-Testing.repo and did a yum update php and it updated 30 packages, but when I try to install php-mysql I get :

I've currently got a centos server setup in my home. It has 1 website running on it and I am using DynDNS.com's service to access the server. DynDNS works by redirecting a free url to the IP address of your server. I would like to add a second website under a different url. However, I'm not sure how to add a second IP address (which I would then use with DynDNS to create a new url).

here is what i am trying to do: i need to host a number of web sites at my mac, for example: hostone.com, hosttwo.com, hostthree.com and etc since i need to host more than one website at the same pc, i use name based virtual hosts so i have hostone at 192.168.0.1:1234 and a servername of "hostone" hosttwo at 192.168.0.1:1235 with a server name of "hosttwo" and etc
my question is , how do i config my local settings, so all of my local network computers can access "hostone" site by type "hostone" at their browser and "hosttwo" site by type "hosttwo" at their browser

I have a small network with my Centos 5.6 box and a Win XP PC on it.I can access the files on the PC from the Centos box by bringing up the RUN window (ALT-F2 in Gnome) and typing smb://192.168.1.X/C (where X is the address of the PC), and I get a window with the C: drive from my PC. I can then drag/drop files between the Centos box and the PC. Here are my questions:
1) I want to script the file transfer, so how do I do this from the command line?
2) On the PC, I have 2 drives C, and E. They appear to be set up the same, but the E drive looks empty when I do this using the interactive method above.
I found this tutorial http:[url]..... but I can't get my PC "visible" in the smbtree.Really, I just want to write a script that does a backup on the Centos box and copies it to the E (External) Drive on the PC. (I'm a novice when it comes to administration)

I currently have a Samba share on a Debian 7 system. This share was only ever used by Windows systems on the network.
I just finished setting up a Debian 8 system with Xfce, and now I would like to connect to the share. I already installed gvfs-backends and gvfs-bin. When I go to Thunar file manager, and click browse network, I'm presented with a "Windows Network" shortcut. When clicked it says: Failed to open "Windows Network". Failed to retrieve share list from server: No such file or directory.

When I boot up, or come out of standby, etc, it takes about a minute for my Windows shares on Win 7 to show up under Network. Is there anything I can try that will make this initial connection faster? Either on Debian or the Win7 machine? I have the latest Debian vanilla. This is over wifi. My other devices list the shares right away.

I have server with Debian and Apache installed. Webpage content located in /var/www folder. For failserver I have Windows server 2003, which runs Mysql service thats needed for library software. And on this machine theres Inetpub/wwwroot with library webcontent. Sofar its only accessible localy. How can make Apche webserver to take content from this local server machine and show it publicly.

I am using Squeeze and all appears OK at first... I have a DHCP lease, PING to router works, apache servering fine in and outside the network, Epiphany seems to connects to default debian.org only, BUT I cannot connect to any other websites and apt will not connect to any servers. I installed once, tried to fix problem, gave up and reinstalled and still have the same problem.
I unistalled Network Manager thinking that was the problem, but still the same issue. Is there a default firewall blocking certain connections or am I missing something I'm supposed to know about? I installed some non-free firmware in the beginning of install and all worked... and I connected fine when downloading packages during install.

I tried to reinstall Centos, and the reinstall failed due to a flash disk being pulled out in the middle of the operation. I am left with an un-bootable system and I want to access my data, if possible.
Prior to the reinstall the disk info was:

I have a webservice which runs under Apache Tomcat. The service is started via a script in /etc/init.d. During the course of the Web service processing, the software must make use of the two NVIDIA GPUs on the computer to do some graphics processing. When this system is booted but not logged in, the web service is accessible but the software cannot access the software cannot access the X server to do it's processing. However, when I am logged in, the user can access the X servers and run correctly. I have tried various solutions but I always have to be logged in to run the software. I seem to have permissions problems but I'm unsure how to resolve them
Is there any way to grant permissions to root (the tomcat service is started as root) to allow it to run the software without logging in?
I am running CentOS 5.4 with Gnome display manager.

I am able to log in via VNC through a browser (on my Window laptop), however when I try to access my USB hard drive on the Centos Server, it says:
Error org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.AccessDenied
Does anyone know of any step by step instructions so that I can be able to access my USB Hard drive?
I have found a few posts on the internet about this, however the fixes are either vague/hard to understand etc?
