Feb 11, 2010My Linux machine's all Ethernet ports are connected to Cisco 2960SCG switch. Linux machine is having two Ethernet cards. First one is using "e1000" Ethernet driver and the second one is with "nxge" Ethernet driver.
Problem is; I am successful while trying to delete VLAN interfaces over motherboard PCI Ethernet card, but if i try the same on other PCI card the following messages are coming,and soon system getting hanged.

Jun 25, 2010I have configured dhcp3-server on my debian box and I'm wanting to offer dhcp on one of the vlan interfaces. The dhcp is functioning but when I test applying it to a different vlan, the original PC can still get an IP. For example: eth1 has vlan100 and vlan200. Our managed switch has the ports configured such the pc1 is on vlan100 and pc2 is on vlan2. This works fine and I can inter-route between vlans with static IPs. Our dhcp config is currently set as:

CentOS 5 Networking :: Setup Two NIC's And VLAN's?
Sep 12, 2011I'm trying to setup a Asterisk box with two NIC's. The idea is that one NIC connects to the LAN on VLAN2 (for internal voice) and the other to the SIP trunk on my ISP's Cisco 1811, configured for VLAN3.
Some info: The Cisco's VLAN1 + 2 are available on my switch. VLAN1 = 10.105.44.x with gateway .254 (the Cisco). VLAN2 = 10.106.45.x with gateway .254 (the Cisco). The Cisco's VLAN3 is available on only a single port on de Cisco, connected to one of de NIC's of the Asterisk box, eth1, with IP 10.106.46.1 and gateway .254 (the Cisco). The other NIC, eth0, is connected to the switch, on a port setup for VLAN2.
So, what I'm trying to achieve: Use eth1 tagged with VLAN3 to connect to the SIP trunk. (I could do this with a static route because my provider has a fixed IP to connect to) Use eth0 for all other traffic.
Here are some config files I've setup so far (I'm stuck on connecting to the SIP provider):

Jan 12, 2011My company hosts five Servers with CentOS 5 installed in a Data Center. The Data Center assigns a VLAN to each customer so that they can organize customers and also count traffic. The VLAN assigned to my company is in the form 62.103.X.X with a subnet mask 255.255.255.240 so the IPs that we can use in our Servers are 13. The first IP in the VLAN (for example 62.103.1.1) is the Gateway and the rest, that are calculated from the subnet mask, are assigned to servers(62.103.1.2 up to 62.103.1.14).
The problem I have is that we have run out of IPs in our VLAN. We have used all IPs and we want some more. The Data Center can assign new IPs but not grow our VLAN IPs by expanding the subnet mask. So they gave us a new VLAN with some IPs (for example 62.104.X.X with a subnet mask 255.255.255.192) They told me that I had to use as gateway the gateway of the first VLAN 62.103.1.1 and assign the new IPs as usual. So I assigned to one of the CentOS 5 servers the IP 62.104.1.2 and set the gateway to 62.103.1.1. Unfortunately this did not work and we could not establish connectivity to the Internet.Is it possible to assign a gateway outside of the IPs that are in the subnet? Could it be a problem with the VLAN setup by the Data Center?

Apr 19, 2009I have an Asterisk-server with 2 interfaces, a WAN-interface (eth1) and a LAN-interface (eth0).
SETUP :
IAX-provider(internet) --> firewall --> Asterisk-server --> switch --> clients_on_LAN
So everything coming from the IAX-provider on port 4569 is forwarded to the Asterisk-server's WAN-interface (eth1).
This needs then be routed to an internal SIP-phone (an IVR-system will define which one) via eth0.
When a call is initiated from an internal SIP-phone (they register to the IP-address assigned to eth0) it needs to be routed via eth1 to the gateway (192.168.4.250). Asterisk will setup an IAX-channel on WAN-interface (eth1) to the IAX-provider (via gateway).
So... will this work :
route add -net ip_IAXprovider netmask 255.255.255.0 gw 192.168.4.250 dev eth1

Jun 3, 2010Centos el5xen x86_64 in a company network, novell-netware, Static IP I have several issues with the Xen network configuration. This configuration worked before, and was maded by a other personn with a higher level in centos and network . I'm trying to re-install xen in bridging mode.
1) The dom0 ping in the company network, but can't acess to the Internet.
I de-activated firewall, iptables and SE-Linux for the test.

CentOS 5 Networking :: Shutting Down Interface On Link Down State?
May 17, 2011I have a problem. I want interface to shut down once there is a link down state detected. If you set up eth0, and then plug cable out, eth0 stays up, just loosing the RUNNING flag. I want it to go down completely.
I've stumbled upon netplugd, and I've tried using it. It is a daemon that detects states in (link up) and out (link down) from kernel netlink interface. If I have this daemon up, it detects that link is down (eg. cable removed from interface), and it runs correctly /etc/netplug.d/netplug eth0 out. That script then runs ifdown eth0. And that's ok.
But very next moment netplugd runs /etc/netplug.d/netplug eth0 probe, and probe section of that script runs "ip link set eth0 up", which then turns interface back on!I've tried commenting out that line, but then new problem occurs - after the link is up, netplug cannot figure that out and bring back interface. Has anyone have this kind of problem, and any viable solution with netplug?

CentOS 5 Networking :: External Traffic Starts Going Over Internal Interface
Feb 16, 2010I have a DELL running CentOS 5.4 with 2 active NICs, one with an external IP address (eth0) on 123.456.78.9 and another that is connected to our internal network (eth1), 192.168.2.x. When I reboot the server, everything works glowingly. External traffic is correctly routed over the external interface (eth0) and internal traffic over the internal interface (eth1). After some random amount of time, a couple of hours and sometimes a couple of days, all traffic starts getting routed over our internal network, so DNS requests fail, internet pages don't load, smtp connections fail, etc.
I'm assuming that everything that's not headed for our .1, .2 or VPN internal networks would go out the external interface. And why this works for a period of time and then stops working is beyond me. And when external traffic starts going over the internal interface, I just reboot and it starts working like it's supposed to again.

the problem is that with the above configuration, i connected 3 linux boxes on the switch but non of them could connect with each other.
when i did a ping, it says "destination unreachable"
what am i missing out here, and whats the fix?
i assigned static ip address to these boxes, also there's no router in this network by the way. i dont think i will need one either as all the machines in in the same vlan2.

May 20, 2009I have managed to configure a wireles PCI card on CentOS 5.3 and it seems to work fine. It is a off brand (Hercules) with a Ralink RT61 chipset. I installed the most current driver (RT2501PCI/mPCI/CB(RT61:RT2561/RT2561S/RT2661) from the rt2x00 Open Source Project. I now have a question that might be very simple for one or more of you to answer. When I issue the command "shutdown -h now", the machine starts to come down and brings down eth0 cleanly, but when it attempts to bring down wlan0, the machine hangs and never brings down the interface OR powers off the box. The only way to complete the power off is to "hard" power off the machine.

I assume that the same command was attempted during the boot process (please correct me if I am wrong) to use DHCP to get an address for eth0, but failed for the same reason it is failing after boot when I run it manually, whatever that reason may be.

It is quite mysterious to me why running 'dhclient eth0' will work, but manually running 'dhclient' does not.

Aug 5, 2009I'm preparing to "follow" these directions which will make VirtualBox's networking behave like VMWare's "NAT" networking. Of course, these instructions are for a Ubuntu/Debian setup.
I am quite certain that I can write a script that'll do the equivalent steps on my Fedora 11 box -- which is acceptable to me. I would, however, like to know how to splice this stuff into NetworkManager and/or /etc/sysconfig/networking/devices/, to do this the "right" way.
The desired networking behavior:
-VM's get assigned addresses via DHCP on a virtual network
-VM's can talk to each other and to their physical host
-VM traffic out to the 'real world' is NATted
