I have configured IPv6 in my main server and I can ping IPv6 address (eg. google). but I want to do the same on my VPS.What do I have to do to add an additional IPv6 IP to my already present VPS (IPv4 configured)?I tried the web, but no complete info of doing so anywhere.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI just kickstarted this box - I used eth0 and had no issues. After booting - eth0 is not available/present. This was not an issue in 5.2. This is a dell 4600 - both the 100mb intel and gig broadcom are onboard. I am about to try a different kernel. This is not a show stopper - it's plugged into 100m switch and I can just use eth1 - but I am curious as to what is different and why this no longer works.

I used to play with gw6c ( a client for tunnel broker ) It works well with fedora9 , fedora 10, but not with leonidas. my rpm is gw6c-6.0-0.4.beta4.fc9.i386.rpm ( a little old!) when I tried to install i have got this: libcrypto.so.7 est ncessaire pou w6c-6.0-0.4.beta4.fc9.i386 I try to make a soft link to libcrypto.so.0.9.8k, but nothing; The question :-Is there a solution for that pb - did you know a better client for non native ipv6 connectivity?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have been struggling to get FC15 to act as an IPv6 router for a while now, am sure I am missing something trivial.. The idea is that I have a ppp / adsl connection (this works fine), use the wireless card on my pc with hostapd and dhcpd to provide connections to other pcs (works fine), and radvd to delegate ipv6 addresses.
The issue seem to be that as soon as I turn on ipv6 forwarding (net.ipv6.conf.all.forwarding =1), the ppp connection no longer gets an IPv6 address. This means the router cannot ping any ipv6 address outside my network.
If I disable ipv6 routing, my router gets an IPv6 address on its ppp connection, and can ping things such as ipv6.google.com just fine, however (of course) no packets are forwarded from my network and radvd complains that forwarding is disabled.
I've got a little server setup on my local network and I'm trying to configure it to use miredo. I've got my laptop successfully using it, but for some reason miredo gives this error when I try to start it:

Now that IPv6 is becoming more and more common, I found the need to disable IPv6 on some interfaces but have it enabled on other. I found that /proc/sys/net/ipv6/conf/*/disable_ipv6 does exactly that. I am now wondering if anybody knows, why are networking scripts so counterintuitive. /etc/sysconfig/network has an option:
NETWORKING_IPV6=yes
All this option does is disable some ipv6 services (dhcpv6...), it does not disable IPv6 in whole (as one would assume...that's why you had to disable it with module parameters). Searching for more IP6 related config option, one can find that /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-* scripts can contain:
IPV6INIT=yes
Again, this option does not disable IPv6 protocol on the interface, it just skips running ifup-ipv6/ifdown-ipv6 scripts. I added a /sbin/ifup-pre-local. Now, this script runs before ethX entries are created (other scripts run when it's already too late) in /proc directory, so it modifies default values which are then used after those entries are created:

Ethernet card works, but Wireless card activation fails at bootup time. It also fails if I try it again from the Network Configuration UI.

I have a webserver to host some system application to the public. the server have two network interface. I set eth0 with wan IP and eth1 with internal LAN IP.the reason for the internal ip on eth1 is to enable LAN pc directly access to the webserver application..is this configuration is ok. sometimes the server link down and i have to restart network to get it back to normal again.. Is there any additional configuration in order to make the network stable.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have successfully installed Centos 5.3 on a Mac Pro which had 1 gig of ram. I upgraded to 5 gigs of ram and the OS cannot see the additional memory. I ran the command free -g and it showed me only 1GB of ram. I pulled the memory and put it in an identical Mac Pro running OSX and it saw the additional memory without any problem, so I know the crucial ram is good. Do anyone know if there is something I need to do in order for Centos to see the additional ram?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm running CentOS 5.2 on an ASUS M2NPV-VM motherboard. This motherboard includes an NVIDIA nForce 430 built-in Gigabit MAC (network interface). I've also installed a second PCI network interface card (NC100 Network Everywhere Fast Ethernet 10/100). The PCI-based card was configured as eth0, while the built-in NIC was configured as eth1. The machine is used as my firewall/router, so eth0 is my internal interface, while eth1 is my external interface. I've had some intermittent problems with the built-in (eth1) NIC. When booting the machine and it attempts to bring up the interface, I get the following message: forcedeth device eth1 does not seem to be present, delaying initialization From that time forward, there is no eth1, and so no external network, etc. If I try running /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifup eth1 (from that directory), it results in the same error.
Originally, I was getting this error when installing the operating system on the machine. At that time, I was using a 75' ethernet cable (as I was working on the machine in my office, and the external ethernet jack was in another part of the house). As soon as I moved the machine to its permanent location (which is within 2 feet of the ethernet jack), the problem went away. However, I just updated the kernel (via yum) from 2.6.18-92.1.22.el5 to 2.6.18-128.1.6.el5, and now it fails 9 out of 10 times. I'm not even sure what I can do to debug this. I'm assuming there is some kind of timing problem with the initialization. Is there a configuration parameter I can set to allow more time for the initialization to do what it needs to do, to prevent this error?

When my CentOS virtual machine boots it uses DHCP to get an IP address. It also overwrites resolv.conf with the DNS settings provided by the DHCP server. The DHCP server doesn't supply any search domains so I would like to get dhclient to put in a list of search domains when it writes it. How can I configure dhclient to do this?

View 8 Replies View RelatedI have been using ubuntu for a few years now but am a noob when comes to the technical side of things, so apologies for my lack of knowledge.
I am using ubuntu 10.10 on a ZOTAC IONITX-A-U Atom N330 1.6GHz Dual-Core Mini ITX Intel Motherboard and since I have upgraded from 10.04 I no longer have blue tooth capabilities. I have a logitech mx 5500 wireless keyboard and mouse, which uses a bluetooth dongle. This is the strange part as they have both been working until recently.
They both lost their charge and after replacing the batteries in my keyboard it no longer is able to connect. The mouse however works fine, until I dropped it So I bought a microsoft explorer mouse which came with its own bluetooth dongle. Which I plugged in and the mouse works fine.
But when I go to System> Preferences> Bluetooth
I get Bluetooth adapter not present and Your computer does not have any Bluetooth adapters plugged in.
I have spent the last week googling this and can't seem to find any relevant info.
I ran this in terminal code...
Am I wrong in assuming that the logitech and microsoft dongles are being seen?
I have also removed and reinstalled bluetooth and bluetooth manager in the software centre, and the same with synaptic package manager, to no avail.
With both dongles plugged in could this also cause a problem?
Is there another way of starting the bluetooth?

I have Ubuntu 10.10 installed on my laptop. My ISP natively supports ipv6, but since last weekend, I do not get an ipv6 ip. When I use a live cd however, I do get an ipv6 ip. For as far as I can see, all settings (/etc/network/interface and the settings in network manager) are exactly the same.

I have a problem with my ipv6 connection: although I can't get ipv6 address with DHCP, I can't use ipv6 network. I tried [URL], and the tortoise is static. I want to fix it out , so I use 'ifconfig' to see my network configuration:

Some people told me that the fisrt ipv6 address was wrong and unsuitable for ipv6 connecting. I tried /ect/init.d/networking restart but it didn't work. How can I use the second address as my ipv6 address and fix the problem out ? Now it seems there is not problem with the ip adress but the route. After watching some video, I suddenly could use ipv6. I did 'ifconfig' again and nothing was different. However, the result from the command 'ip -f inet6 route' changed: the last default route was gone and there was only one default route.
I have installed Bind 9.6.1 on my linux pc. I have to resolve domain name using IPv6 address. I have made following entry in the /etc/resolv.conf file code...
address of the machine on which Bind is running. The problem is that I am not able to ping open-ims.test domain name. If I use IPv4, everything works fine but how to ping domain using IPv6.
I have also made changes in dnszone file by replacing IPv4 address with IPv6 address and also changing A to AAAA.
I am having trouble adding additional search domains to ubuntu. I can add them to resolve.conf, but networkmanager will keep overwriting it. Is there somewhere else I can add the search domains?
View 9 Replies View Relatedi installed linux on this laptop around 2 years ago (hp g6000 laptop) with internal wireless card and was unable to get the internal wireless card to work under ubuntu. so i purchased a linux supported usb wifi stick, which worked perfectly (connected automatically on boot) each time. however, i moved house recently and lost this usb wifi stick. i am currently using a ethernet connection to my hub and have updated ubuntu to the current version. all software is also up to date. since i lost my old wifi stick, i have used this connection, however, yesterday when i was on videos, all of a sudden (without me having done anything {intentionally anyway}) i see the wireless connection graphic at the top right of the screen! both green dots lit and the connection was live! so i disconnected the ethernet and used the wifi all night without a hitch.
i was extremely happy with what had happened and could not work out why it had decided to work (having not been aware to doing anything, except sit and watch a videos video). so i shut down, go to bed, go to work the next day and come home looking forward to browsing the web from my sofa, and guess what, no internet connection once i logged in! i just think 'if it worked last night, it can work now'. i have ndiswrapper and i have the .inf driver file for the internal card installed in ndiswrapper. i have opened that tonight and it looks okay - except it says 'hardware present: no'. i do not understand what has happened at all. (also there is a wifi 'on off' switch on the front of the laptop, with an orange led but neither position makes any difference to the card working or not and it hasnt changed positions since i moved house (to the best of my knowledge anyway).
I have swapped out four known working, different bran network cards. Each one I get the same error as in the subject. If I boot to a Live CD such as CentOs 5.3 LiveCD both Nics are given an IP. This seems to only be happening with my CentOs 5.3 server install.I noticed the CentOS Live CD the Nics were reversed from eth0 to eth1 and eth1 to eth0.
At the moment as of the output of the commands, I am running two identical Nics, since the first one has always worked. I have previously used an rtl8139, 3com c3905-TX, onboard Rhine III based (now disabled) Here are steps I have done to try and figure this out:

I went through the system-config-network-tui. I copied /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth1 to the ifcfg-eth0 and edited for sanity. and as stated earlier, have swapped out four different nics for eth0, and booted to two different LiveCD's. Both LiveCD's work fine.
I recently upgraded mu Fedora 13 to Fedora 14, I decided to add another NIC that I assumed it'll be eth1, when I boot the PC and typed #ifconfig eth0, eth1, lo appears. But when I typed #setup eth1 is not present. Why is that? I remembered doing this in Centos 5.5 but it automatically appears after I added a NIC and boot the pc? what should I do?
