I have been searching the forums for quite a while, to add extra Loopback adapter in Centos 5.1, but no success! Could you please suggest me the steps? in Windows, it is quite easy to add as many adapters as you want. wondering, if this is even possible in Linux? I have to run GNS3/Dynamips for router emulation and bind those Loopback adapters to virtual routers!

I've the same results if i give the command with sudo;. Consider that i'm working on Kernel 2.6.18-128.1.16.el5 on a notebook with AMD 64 cpu.
I'm running a Source Dedicated Server on my Ubuntu laptop, and to connect to it via external IP from other computers in the network I need to enable loopback in my router.This was working fine, but then I disconnected my laptop for a few days, and when I came back the wireless stopped working on my Xbox. I reset the router to factory defaults, and then setup everything again. It was all working fine until I enabled loopback again and power cycled my router. Now every time I do that, the internet on Ubuntu stops working and the wireless on the Xbox stops working.
Edit: You can ignore this I guess. It seems I was actually DISABLING loopback by enabling that router option, which I guess caused this. Strange, because the first time enabling this option was the only way to get my external ip to work. Oh well, everything is fine now.
I have a Centos 5.2 VM running under Windows 2008 Hyper-V. If I add two "legacy Nic's" and bridge them, everything appears to work fine. However, if I remove the legacy nics and replace them with two synthetic nics (linux integration components), the nics seems to function fine UNTIL I add them to a bridge.This VM will eventually be used as a DansGuardian/Squid transparent proxy for a local library. The logical layout is represented by the attached jpg image. I have also included the ifcfg- scripts for the adapters and bridge for both scenarios.It would also be useful if someone else has Hyper-V with the integration components and dual physical nics to see if they can reproduce my symptoms on their box.Legacy Adapters:

The garage in my house is a dead spot for my current wifi router.I can't get a signal there.Moving my router within the limits of my cabling doesn't fix it. But I have two other routers I'm no longer using.Is it possible to use one of them as a wireless access point to extend the range of my current router?If so, what is the general procedure for doing that? My main router is a Verizon Actiontec M424WR. My other unused routers are a D-Link and a Netgear, both of which have wireless capability. The Netgear had a superior range, as I recall.

Sys admins came in and copied the hosts file from one of the servers down to my desktop and ever sincethen machine has been slow (progs take 10-20seconds to load). RunningGnome. Luckily I saved the old hosts file and copied it back and all is now well. But I'd like to understand why, particularly as I will need to change myhostname in the future.

Installed latest version of sipXecs (PBX system) which is based on CentOS. The install went fine. During the first boot up all the messages come back with OK until it reachs a message about loopback. It hanges on this message and will go no further.

But when I tried to connect to the internet, the trouble began.My network card is installed and the status is "OK". The network card is a "Realtek RTL 8168C(P)/8111C(P)".The status of the device said "Inactive" and when I tried to activate it, it came with an error: Failed; no link present. Check Cable?Now the cable is connected as it should be.So next step I did is put in a static IP. Now the activation works fine.However I still have no internet. I can't even ping to my router!I need some new drivers for my graphics card too, but first I need the network to work, than I can download other stuff..

I have a Netgear WG111T USB and a Edimax EW-7711UAn USB.
I have the latest version of ubuntu.
I have installed ndiswrapper, and loaded the windows drivers in for the netgear, and it will show up in iwconfig but wont connect to anything, I got rid of network manager and installed wicd as I heard that may solve the problem, to no avail.
The Edimax one, I got because I read it worked straight out of the box, but looking into it apparently i need to compile the firmware from ralinks website, but I get errors with that.
Im not too fussed what one I use as long as I get a wireless connection, currently i have it connected to my laptop through a cable and bridging the connections.

I want to use centos as a developer server on my desktop before deploying my stuff to the internet.
I have a netgear DG834G router. It's IP address on my local network is 192.168.0.1 and connected to the adsl line. The router is set up to act as an dhcp server too. On the router I have reserved ip address for the nics per their mac addresses.
My server is on a dual boot desktop. The other boot is XP and works fine, picks up dhcp.
I don't know how to connect Centos to the router.
I have tried to play with the network manager but to no avail.
I can ping localhost, interface eth0 is there, but i can't ping to the router.
I have set the manager system/administration/network to get dhcp automatically.
I can't activate the eth0 although the hardware device says it is OK.
I've looked at firewall and iptalbes.
I have a CentOS server that has some problems with the network configuration. I can't find the correct settings / help on internet
The computer has 3 network connections. ETH0 is connected to a router (a FritzBox 7050 with IP address 192.168.178.1). The ETH0 card has a fixed IP-address 192.168.178.22 - gw 192.168.178.1. Firefox as well as the webserver are working fine. ETH1 is not working (and not activated) because of problems with the drivers. ETH2 should be the intranet connection. This interfacecard has IP-address 192.168.17.1 and is connected to a switch. After the switch I have 1 computer attached with IP-address 192.168.17.3 - gw 192.168.17.1 A ping from the server to this computer gives good results and a ping from the computer to the server also. trying to ping to the fritz-box or to the internet constantly fails. As far as I can search, I'm certain that the failing is caused by routing-problems on the CentOS server.

I have two computers and a wi-fi router. A notebook with Ubuntu 10.04 and a desktop with Windows 7. Whenever the notebook is on, the desktop starts having horrible Internet speed, and eventually disconnects. If I turn the notebook off (or disconnect from the network) it starts working fine again. Both computers connect to the router via wi-fi. I should also note that the connection runs flawlessly on Ubuntu.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am using 2 wireless network adaptors,one intel 5300 AGN (driver iwlagn)and the other one smc ezconnect ( driver zd1211rw), a usb adaptor The intel 5300 AGN has a hardware switch.
However, everytime i turn off the hardware switch of intel 5300 AGN, the smc ezconnect adaptor is turned off too. How to I prevent this(how to make 2 switch for 2 adaptors?)
Running Fedora 13 and have it working great acting as my firewall/router/samba server etc. The problem is the connection is shared by a fair number of us and the ISP is getting annoyed with the amount of torrent traffic. One of us has access to a wireless network and we'd like to figure out how to route some of the traffic through that without having to disconnect from the current network. I put a wireless card in the fedora box and can connect to the wireless but then it messes up the current network and pretty much nothing works.
At the least if I could run a torrent client (e.g. ktorrent or whatever) on the Linux box and have it download through the wireless card on tcp port XXXXX I would be happy. The torrent client and those tcp/udp ports can be dedicated to that wireless card, the rest of the network doesn't need to get involved if that makes things simpler. Not looking for a step by step tutorial, just an explanation of what needs to be done and a shove in the right direction. My experience is limited to single WAN connections up to this point.

I changed /etc/sysconfig/network to include GATEWAY=192.168.1.1 From the internet I have a modem-192.168.2.1, a telecom voip box-192.168.15.1, and then my router 192.168.1.1 I'm able to ping machines attached to the router but nothing beyond that. I tried to get the results for ifconfig via putty on this machine but it says command not found. I can get it when I log in at the box in question though.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm in a spot where my wireless access is about 200 ft from my computer so I bought a tl-wn721 adapter. I have already gotten the drivers for it but somehow I am still stuck with my wireless adapter built in to my sony vaio sz220 (yeah I know it's old...that's why I run ubuntu). So how do I change wireless adapters? The system does say that the realtek drivers associated with the 721 adapter are in use and enabled but in Win 7 I have much higher signal than what is currently displayed. Usually it's somewhere in the high 80 or 90s. Now it's hard to even get 70 and that's how I know that I'm on my built in adapter. I ran lspci -nn and this was my output. I might just not be searching for the right thing. BTW I'm running 10.04 LTS.

Like some others I have found people are having problems with network manager from time to time. It seems that wicd is the solution. Will this work with ubuntu 10.04?
I have a Linksys router configured via Windows 7 and have to other PC's using Ubunto, and would like to share folders on the 2 Linux boxes with the Windows Laptop. I can see the windows network through the Linux machines but not vice-versa. I also have a Konica 1400W printer connected to the Linux box but can't get the W7 laptop to find it.Sharing message box states I haven't installed the correct sharing packages, but cant find them
