I have centos 5, and apache. I've recently had to make a website in Polish, which has some characters that do not seem to be supported on Centos. Is there a way to install more character sets?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am having a problem editing / decoding files and characters in UFT-8 on my CentOS installs. I have a single FreeBSD server where the problem does not exist. Basically, what happens is that Danish special characters, as well as other non-ASCII characters, come out garbled when processed on the system. As an example, if I open a vim editor and type characters like � it comes out as ø
If I try using nano, the characters come out as Relatedly, if I import UTF-8 encoded files from other sources, they also appear broken when edited locally. I have tried updating the system language using system-config-language. Also, I have no desktop environment installed, I access my servers only through the command line. View 3 Replies View RelatedI have recently upgraded to a VPS for the purpose of web hosting a group of sites related to my business.The reason for the upgrade was because we wish to run a shopping cart software which required greater memory for PHP and the VPS was the most economic solution. So, I have very basic linux knowledge but I am the definition of a newbie when it comes to going further than just scratching the surface of server configuration! I have successfully hosted our main site for a number of weeks but recently the postfix service stopped sending mail. I have Plesk Control Panel installed and postfix continually shows as not started even though in SSH the service status is definitely running - I have gone through the troubleshooting checklist here (http://www.postfix-book.com/debugging.html#d0e6) but can't get any further than section 2.1 as when running the host command (#host relay-test.mail-abuse.org), I get # -bash: host:command not found. I've gone further in the document but not found any issues...
When postfix was working properly (i.e. sending emails!), the plesk CP showed the service as started and all emails from the website were sending as normal. The mailq command is showing the messages stuck in the mailq and the maillog shows the following:- http://pastebin.centos.org/36446 - these are the latest few pages.To check the configuration and basic elements I have flushed the mailq (which shows a stack of messages waiting) and I have also spent a long time (2 weeks) reading up on the parameters that should be in main.cf and master.cf.I have found that when I 'telnet localhost 25' I get the following response...[root@s15397216]# telnet localhost 25Trying 127.0.0.1...Connected to localhost.Escape character is '^]'.
I was messing around with the alternate character panel app and made a custom character set. I then wanted to put it on a new panel and created a new panel. I moved the character set to that panel, and then started to mess around with the panel settings (auto hide, show hide buttons, and expand, to be specific.) So far so good, until I moved the panel from the right side of the screen to the top. I already had a panel here, and it seemed not to like hiding a panel when there was already one on the top.
When the new panel hid itself, all my panels stopped responding (any clicks on them did nothing) and my processor started going at 100%. I tried a reboot and the only thing that changed is that now I can't even see my panels. I'm guessing I need to change the settings back manually through the prompt, but I don't know how to do that. I am using 10.04 and have not upgraded gnome since upgrading to 10.04.
I have 4 drives. Two identical pairs. Each pair does something different and serves a different purpose to my system. Can I set up two RAID 1 arrays?

When I start the connection and the Firefox browser, I always find that Firefox has set itself to work offline. I use File->work offline and uncheck that box. This fixes the problem, but only till the next reboot. Even if I exit Firefox "in an orderly manner", the next time it will have set itself to work offline.
I had this problem in previous Fedora versions. I read about two solutions on the web. One was to write a script that removed a file called extensions.cache before Firefox ran. The other was to type about:config in the address bar of Firefox, acknowledge the warning message, and use the right mouse button to togglethe value ofoolkit.networkmanager.disable from "false" to "true".Are either of these good solutions? What exactly does "network manager" do? I think of it as the gui under System->Administration->Network, but it must be more.
When I installed Slackware, I deselected a few software sets like KDE and TCL, but now I would like to install KDE (btw, what is TCL for? Is it something important that I should have installed, or is it something like "if you don't know, you don't need it"?). What would be the best way to install the KDE software set and even have a menu to deselect a few packages I know I won't use?produces a list of kde packages (including the kde language packages), but I don't know if that's everything in the kde set. It seems like it's not, since it's transcending the software set boundaries to provide options for the internationalization packages, too.
View 6 Replies View RelatedThe installer can't see my raid controller (I assume) as I'm getting the following error:"Error opening /dev/mapper/isw_jbhgjgjj_Vol0: No such device or address"It just sees them as 4 individual drives: sda, sdb, sdc and sdd.Please note that I have set up the RAID 5 in the controller bios interface and the image name is Vol0, which it seems that it tries to load but for some particular reason it can't.I have also tried different bios settings and nothing worked.

I created RAID 5 array and is working fine (adaptec status says Optimal) but I can't install CentOS to that array (1.5TB size).

I'm asked for a driver, which I have downloaded from Adaptec site and extracted contents to USB drive (in installation found as /sba1) which has now a lot of IMG and some ISO files on it.
I try to load (I simplified names) RHEL5.img, CENTOS.img... with x64 names (one exact name: aacraid driverdisk-CentOS-x86_64.img) and I always get the error message: "No devices of the appropriate type were found on this driver disk"
This is going on for a week now and I can't find the right driver or something I'm doing wrong to get install done.

I want to install CentOS from netinstall CD, but it doesn't work for wireless connection, because it just looks up for eth0 connection. Well, I connected server to wired USB connection and it's named eth1. I want to use netinstall CD but using eth1 connection. Is there any way for doing it?

CentOS 5.3 installation is working fine with drive disk image at USB and CentOS 5.3 at DVD. Our application uses CentOS 5.3 and we build a custom kick-start ISO for installations. Using that ISO client is going to install on all hardware boxes.
Note while installing :
a) No network connection is avalible.
b) No USB isavalible.
c) No floppy is avalible.
d) Only single CD-ROM is avalible.
So, is it possible to build single custom kick-start CentOS 5.3 ISO which contains dirve disk image and entire installation will be done using that image. If so please let me know the steps to build it.

Two part question:
1. what tools are recommended for designing web pages?
2. What tool sets are recommended for maintaining them?
I suspect that the first question really addresses the second rather than the literal question because of the source of the request. Here's the environment. A small church wants to post and maintain a website. Various non-tech persons will be responsible for maintaining much of
the content of the site. This tells me that they want/need a site that contains the necessary content maintenance tools within the site itself, not a tool on the individual desktops with the only real need for the design/dev tools being for initial construction of the site and a GOOD book on site design to guide construction of the site in the first place.
When I reboot my computer, my iptables sets itself to a policy of dropping everything, adds a bunch of rules, and a bunch of extra chains, to the effect that (due to everything being set to drop) I can't do anything. I know how to fix this from the terminal to the extent of just clearing most of it and changing the policies back. However, what I don't know is how to make it stay that way. I have a file with the iptables rules I want, so every time I start up I just run iptables-restore, but I don't want to have to do this every time, particularly since others use this computer who do not have admin privileges.
I've tried changing /etc/network/interfaces with the added code pre-up iptables-restore < (etc) But that never does anything, or if it does it just makes stuff work even less. I've tried changing init.d before based on similar info elsewhere, still no luck. I don't know how to get it to stick, and I don't know why it is defaulting to the rules it is, other than that I used a firewall app a while ago and afterwards this was the result, for which I uninstalled that app after no success using it to reverse the damage.
I'm looking for a version of, or equialent to, Predator for Ubuntu 10.10. This program sets a USB drive as a key to the computer, locking it when removed. I've had no luck in finding an equivalent for Ubuntu, and the site does not have a version for Linux of any kind.

I have run ntpd on another platform with Slackware 12 (32bit) and never had any problems.
I've been trying to install the Fuppes media server onto CentOS and have had a few difficulties. I had to do a build from the source (svn build 578), then configure, make and make install. So far so good.Once I try to run fuppes, I get the error:[ERROR] Failed to bind socket to : 8.15.7.107:0.The documentation I've searched so far suggests that there is a config file that needs to be set with the appropriate ip address, but the file doesn't exist as the program hasn't started up yet!

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to install CentOS 5.5 on an old Pentium 4 desktop PC I have, which is not being used for much other than being a MTA, and I want to migrate this functionality onto the CentOS platform for stability (Windows is a perpetual nightmare. I partitioned a spare 20GB to experiment with, and I want to install CentOS into here to play around with first so I can move my files around between Windows and CentOS, until I'm happy all of the stuff is gone, then I can scrub the Windows partition and claim the space for CentOS.
So, I've downloaded and burned the DVD and tried to install. I start the install with no args from the main install menu, and the process goes through some probing and then comes up with the "Welcome to CentOS" menu. I go through this, and then it tries to start X Server. It fails, and falls back to text mode. I get the "Welcome to CentOS" screen again, and then proceed through it. I set my keyboard layout to UK, then this message comes up at the bottom of the screen:
"_X11TransSocketINETConnect() can't get address for localhost:6001: Temporary failure in name resolution"
then on the next line: "Cannot open display :1" If I force the install to text, by typing "linux text" at the first menu, I get about the same way through, but the install just hangs doing nothing, and no disc access to the install disc.
I need one help in Fedora 10. I've tried searching all over google and I've not found anything relevant to my problem. I installed Fedora 10 choosing only the basic set of packges. i.e. I uncheck 'Office and Prod' and 'Software Dev' during installation. I wanted to install the base packages and then wanted to install what I need later on. Now that everything is stable and working fine, I want to install the software dev and office package but I dont know how to do this. I am not finding any option to install packages from the DVD or such. Is there any config script that will install all the packages from those two sets. I dont want to install package one by one.
