CentOS 5 Hardware :: Dell Latitude E4300 & Broadcom 4322 Wireless Device Does Not Appear In Dmesg

Jun 11, 2009

I have a Dell Inspiron E4300 provided to me by my employer. I have installed CentOS 5 without much of a problem. The only issue is the wifi isn't working (doh!). I've had much experience with this kind of thing in the past (FreeBSD/ndiswrapper) with successes.
Here are some details:

[Code]...

The device does not appear in dmesg :(I have installed ndiswrapper (dkms-ndiswrapper and ndisgtk from RPMForge) and provided it with the correct Windows XP driver. It has installed the driver and ndisgtk tells me that the hardware is present.

Ubuntu Networking :: Broadcom 4322 Got It Working?

May 8, 2011

I have a broadcom 4322 and haven't successfully got it working yet. the hard drive failed in this laptop and i took it out. i am using a bootable flash drive with ubuntu on it installed. not the live edition. i am trying to find out if somehow since the hard drive is not in the laptop, if that could have anything to do with runnin off the usb flash drive it boots? i have a wired connection using the 8gb flash drive. since there are drivers for usb wifi devices which i know are different, is it possible that the wifi card is looking somewhere else instead of the usb port?

lsusb (i know i have a flash drive not a wifi usb card but this commands still shows this and ndiswrapper -l doesn't show nothing but blank next line to type on. i have tried alot of stuff

Ubuntu Networking :: Wireless Not Working - Dell Latitude E6510

Mar 23, 2011

I've recently partitioned off a section of my hard drive to run Ubuntu from and I'm having trouble with the network connections. In my device manager of Windows 7, it lists that my network adapters are

1. DW1520 Wireless-N WLAN Half-Mini Card

2. Intel(R) 82577LM Gigabit Network Connection

Is there something I'm not doing right in order to allow me to connect to a wireless connection? Are these devices even enabled in Linux systems?

Networking :: Wireless Card Not Detected On Dell Latitude D420?

Jan 26, 2011

I am running the latest version of arch linux on a Dell Latitude D420. So far everything has worked perfectly except the wireless. It seems that Arch does not even detect the wireless because ifconfig -a only gives me the loopback and eth0. I installed ndiswrapper as well as the drivers. lsmod | grep ndiswrapper shows that ndiswrapper is being loaded on boot. I tried to install the iwp3945 drivers, but they have become obsolete so pacman was unable to find them. I also tried installing the iwl3945 drivers as explained here [URL] but still no luck.

Ubuntu Networking :: Dell Latitude CPx Dynex Wireless Card Not Working

Mar 18, 2011

I have a 10 year old Dell Latitude CPx that has no ethernet or modem ports, and the only way to connect to the internet is the Dynex Wireless G DX-BNBC PCMCIA card. It came with Windows 98, and I put Xubuntu on it for a while. I believe it was Xubuntu 8 or 9. Back then I had no clue what to do whatsoever, so after a couple weeks removed it and put Windows 2000 on it. It worked, I used it for a while, but it was slow and 2000 took up a lot of space on the 12gb hard drive after all the updates. I left it forgotten and gathering dust for the past year.

Then a few days ago I discovered Lubuntu 10.10, and from what I've seen so far it is definitely a lot more compact and faster than 2000. However, the wireless card still won't work. It's somewhat recognized, because whenever I unplug it and plug it in a bubble pops up saying "you've been disconnected from the network"... which is odd, since it never says I'm connected, and says that the firmware is missing for this card. Anyway, I discovered something this time. By running "lspci -nn | grep -i 14e4":

OpenSUSE Wireless :: Dell Latitude E6500 Cannot Turn On Intel 5100 Wifi Card?

Nov 9, 2010

I have a Dell Latitude E6500 running Opensuse 11.3. As far as I can tell the module for my wireless card is loaded correctly and it's working:

Code:
sudo lspci | grep -i wifi
0c:00.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation WiFi Link 5100
Code:
[ 556.642557] iwlagn: Intel(R) Wireless WiFi Link AGN driver for Linux, in-tree:d
[ 556.642560] iwlagn: Copyright(c) 2003-2010 Intel Corporation

[Code].....

The funny thing is that it works fine in a Fedora installation, which has an older kernel and older drivers, on the same laptop. The fact that the indicator light doesn't come in when the physical switch is turned on suggests it's something to do with that switch.

Ubuntu Networking :: Dell Vostro 3500 / Broadcom STA Wireless - Wired Network

Mar 31, 2011

I just got a new laptop...Dell Vostro 3500. Took off Win put on Ubuntu...all went fine. I did all updates and app downloads using my WIRED NETWORK as wireless wasnt working. However I was more interested in setting up the new computer. Anyway so after all is installed up pops "Broadcom STA Wireless driver" Proprietary driver do you want to install. Obviously I said yes...

Well now My wireless is working great but for some reason my Wired (auto eth0) no longer works. It just says disconnected and its grayed in. I'm pretty much a newbie but did try a few things like:

apt-get update
apt-get "something" essential (thats not a command just from memory it was something like that)

However I've had no luck. This Broadcom driver seems to have knocked out my wired network.

OpenSUSE Wireless :: Device Is An Integrated Dell Wireless 1397 WLAN Mini-Card

Dec 25, 2009

My wireless device is an integrated Dell Wireless 1397 WLAN Mini-Card, I am unsure about the driver I have in use. I am sure I have a driver installed because the configuration screen shows my network. I currently have the computer plugged into my network via CAT 5 but I would like to be able to use the wireless (obviously.) I am using Open SuSE version 11.2 and I have run the updater. I could not see my wireless network before running the updater and I can now so I know that the updates have helped but I am again stuck. I have tried to search the wireless forum and I have tried to tinker with the settings in YaST , but nothing seems to be working. Reading the Welcome page of the wireless forum, I tried the Broadcom chip-set advice:

I have read and taken to heart the advice given for receiving help and if any more is needed I will gladly give it. I have a small amount of experience with SuSE Enterprise edition so I can understand some technical stuff but I am best at following specific instructions.

Networking :: Wirelss Broadcom 4312 On Dell D620 Not Loading Under CentOS 5 / Sort It?

I have installed CentOS 5 just downloaded yesterday on a Dell D620. Everything but the wireless card works. So I found this article:
http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/Laptops/Wireless/Broadcom
and followed it step by step and was able to complete all of the tasks. The problem is that obviously it still won't start. It is not even recognized as an adapter but when I run lspci -v it is there sure enough. When I look under the networking GUI it is listed there but it has no MAC assigned to it. Please let me know what command output you need to see and I'll get here asap. I have searched this forum and other sites and nothing so far has worked.

Ubuntu Networking :: Broadcom BCM4312 Dell Studio - Built In Wireless Card - 'disabled' And No Longer Works

Jun 10, 2010

I recently installed Ubuntu x64 on my dell studio 1535 using the windows installer (wubi).

All seems to be working fine apart from the built in wireless card, the proprietary driver (found in hardware drivers) installs and activates successfully and works perfectly. Until I shut down or restart the system. On the next boot the wireless card is 'disabled' and no longer works.

The card I have is a Broadcom Corporation BCM4312 802.11b/g

I am going to try a proper install on a second partition rather than using wubi later on but wondered if this was a commonly occuring problem?

The wireless card works as soon as the driver installs, however I am shown a "restart to activate driver" message and after restarting it's dead.

Ubuntu :: Finding A USB Wireless Device To Get Internet On A Dell Dimension 2400?

Oct 8, 2010

I would like recommendations for a USB wireless device to get Internet on a Dell Dimension 2400. It is an old computer but, Ubuntu 10.4 is running like a really fast steam train - like nothing will stop it. Hooray for Ubuntu - XP has been dumped from this machine when I inherited it as it was becoming bloated and inevitably slow (not that I wanted to keep it any way). So I only need a good easy to install wireless USB device for Internet connection. I bought a Realtek RT2070 chipset device without reading into the dos and don'ts. My own fault really as I have been spoilt with everything 'just working' with my laptop and Ultimate Edition Linux.

I have tried a few different driver versions for this thing and it simply won't see the device properly. I can get a @Connection Established' message with a couple of the drivers but, I never actually get connected. I have tried the Windows Wireless Drivers and although they all install I get the 'No Hardware Detected' next to the driver name every time. Something definitely not working somewhere.

So I am giving up with this one and hoping I can find one that people know works well and easily installed. Preferrably with a .deb file (asking a bit much I know but, in this day and age I expect it). After all the other Operating Systems have their own executables that work for all installations of everything. Oh, how I wish I had the time and know-how to do this for all peripherals for Linux. It would be like being in seventh heaven for everyone. No more compiling, or make commands just download and install...

I was amazed to see four simultaneous video feeds running in VideoLan the other day through Ultimate Edition on a Dell Studio 1537. I think I could have just kept opening and running the videos. They had no dropped frames at all - amazing when I considered the same day what crap Windows 7 was to stutter trying to play a CD with music.
