View 1 RepliesI have Slackware 13.1 with kernel 2.6.37. Everything is working fine, except that I can't mount any CD/DVD and automount is not working either. If I connect any USb to my laptop it doesn't automount, I need to manually mount it. The same case happens with CD/DVD only that I can't mount any CD/DVD even manually. Here's the output:

today when I inserted my usbpen in the laptop, automount did not work. I tried another pen with same result. I checked with mountmanager and both pens were working and actually mounted them manually, but automount which worked perfectly yesterday now is dead.I found a workaround installing usbmount from standard repository and now automount works again but usbpens are mounted in /MEDIA/usbx instead with their names as before and I have to open a root terminal tu unmount.
Unfortunately I use a pen for backup with unison and changing the mount position I have to modify unison profile every time, which is pretty uncomfortable.The problem May arise from the fact thgat yesterday I tried to manually compile and install the canon driver for my printer and trying to solve dependencies I had to compile and install Glib-2.26 pango-1.28.3 and gtk+2.22 from their sources.I did not manage to get a working canon driver but i may have made a mess with usb automount function.program/service is responsible for usb automount in ubuntu 10.10 so that i can reinstall or reconfigure it.
I don't use a KDE or Gnome, but want to have USB and cdrom media automounted by ivman. That worked fine with OS 11.1 (with the help of a selfmade "mountpolicies.fdi"). I installed and started ivman on a freshly installed and up-to-date OS 11.2 running icewm as WM, but an USB stick or USB disk is only automounted if ivman is restarted after every insertion of the device, or if it is present at boot time.

I have five partitions on the harddrive that I like to have automounted, because they contain a lot of virtual links between each other, and if the links are to an unmounted partition they appear to be dead links and do not mount the partition when selected.I have tried every combination of the media mount options in gconf-editor, but nothing works.If I have to edit etc/fstab, what do I need?

The DVD was created with Nero Express on a Windows XP SP3 system and reads perfectly well there.On CentOS 5.3 (at least) it will not automaount. I can mount and dismount the DVD manually. I can access the DVD with K3b.CDs mount just fine and come up as an Icon on the Gnome desktop. This is what I would like to happen for the DVD as well. The CD mounts at /media, which puzzles me. I read through a great deal on the web, but have found nothing that addresses the specfic probem. I know the Gnome Volume Manager and HAL are gone. I tried changing the autofs settings by adding the following line to the /etc/auto.misc file
dvd-fstype=auto,nosuid,nodev :/dev/dvdrw
to join the line for the CD, and then rebooting, but without success.
I'm running Debian sid and currently have xfce 4.8.0 installed. I have the thunar-volman package and it is configured to automount everything (cdrom & usb). I have hal, udev, gamin and autofs installed as well.For some reason though, automount just isn't working. It's starting to annoy me.I can mount the devices manually.I looked around already but most posts just advise you to install hal or something.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have build the fuse and ntfs-3g module. Via console I can mount ntfs volumes via mount -t ntfs-3g.But under gnome I get only the messagage that the system don't support ntfs. What must I change, that the gnome volume manger (I think) use ntfs-3g to mount the volumes.

With Lucid I can no longer use fstab in my laptops to automatically mount the desktop's shared media drive. Using the mount command works fine. One laptop is running Karmic, the other is running Hardy.This is the line in fstab on both laptops:

I have an IMAC (I7) that is running CENTOS 5.4 on and need to be able to mount a fireire disk automatically when plugged in. We can do this manually running: fdisk -l then choosing the correct disk and mounting it
mount /dev/scd1 mnt The problem we have is that this machine needs to go in a client office on the other side of the world and we need it to be idiot proof. I need to be able to autodetect and mount the disk like you would if it was running OSX. Obviously the hardware works, just the automount or autodetect does not work.
We've already commented out the blacklist in /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-firewire Is there some other setting I need to automount the disk. Alternatively I'll have to write an application to perform the fdisk and mount as root, which I don't particularly want to do.
i have two centos systems one automounts the external usb hard drive and other doesn't what do you think could be missing in the system that is not automounting the external usb drive.

What changed is last days I tried to build and install nautilus-sendto manually from source, and it required dependencies including GTK+3.0 (unstable), I don't know what happened exactly or if my system is broken, because some of this packages built and installed fine and others failed. I have been running a server for 3-4 years now, and my shares have been mounting just fine. Well, the network admin looked at a backup and seen that the last date backed up was june. I got to looking around and seen that the share is not mounting. I can mount it with sudo mount -a, which tells me my syntax is correct. I get an error about IPv4 socket not opened and it is aborting the operation when I run dmesg | tail, since I can use the above command to mount later, it sounds to me like it is trying to mount before the network connection is ready.
I have done some looking over some init scripts and found that in the /etc/rc.d/init.r/netfs script it has a line that states that it is checking to see if the network is up before it starts to mount the filesystems and the such. This is set to no, my question is, can I change this option to yes and get my desired results, waiting for the network to be up before it mounts the filesystems.
I got connecting to our NAS over NFS working perfectly. Direct NAS Reading & Writing - How? But on Saturday I found out it had stopped working. For no apparent reason, not straight after an update either I don't think. When I manually try to mount --verbose:

The fact smb://192.168.100.14/IHL works proves networking wise we're cool too. There is no firewall between this PC and the NAS, the NAS is instructed to allow my PC's LAN IP full access. OpenSuse's software firewall has been told to allow NFS Client too. Why would this setup break out of nowhere? How can I debug this best? I see nothing relevant in /var/log/messages How can I get it to work again? A hopeful reboot didn't do its usual wonders...

after looking around a bit i thought it would be better to get the sources from kernel.org directly and try to compile that one, but then i found it to have the exact same error. would be very nice if someone could direct me to a solution for this. i have the bwbar already installed on another server which runs CENTOS 4 , i installed it there AGES ago , so i dont really remember what was my method back then.

I installed the latest version of Centos 5.4.It came with Xen version 3.0.2 I think.I am running it on a Dell R510. It supports hardware virtualization.I was able to virtualize Windows XP and Windows 2003 server on it by selecting the install from DVD option.I was having problems trying to get a PCI DekTek card seen by the virtualized Windows domains so I tried to upgrade XEN to 3.4.2.I used the repos available from Gitmo and it went easy.
The only problem is now that when I try to create a "New virtual host" it only allows me to use HTTP, FTP option and not the iso or DVD option. They are greyed out. I was wondering if anyone has had this problem and might know a work around for the Xen 3.4.2 problem. Perhaps a better location for the kernel or something.
Agere got purchased by LSI and now LSI tech support claims there is no Linux driver for this card even though the literature clearly states the availability of a Linux driver.I have installed the firewire driver mentioned in other forum posts from ELRepo.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI installed CentOS 5.3 on my Shuttle SS-31T with SiS 190 network adapter. While booting the message "Bringing up eth 0 [ OK ]" appears. After booting it isn't possible to surf to an internet location (p.a. www.google.com). It's also impossible to ping other machines in the network. After typing ifconfig everything seems to be ok.
ipv6 is turned off
IP : 192.168.0.3
Subnet : 255.255.255.0
Gateway : 192.168.0.1
U have spent 4 days trying to configure my router thinking that it is my router that is not working but when I go to my dynamic dns or my static ip address it takes me to my admin router on the local computers.when I type httpd it says it cannot bind to port 0.0.0.0:80 i checked it is set up to listen to port 80 this is really confusing me i am beginning to think the people who built my server did not set it up properly if i go to localhost or 0.0.0.127 it goes to the apache default page fine.I have not changed anything since it wad installed except the centos 5 updates any ideas?When i login my password is root and the password is the default I have changed nothing else on the system as I still have no clue about it.Just to clarify on my router I have port 80 and port 443 set to my static ip address is this correct or should it be the eth0 Bcast ip address?Can anyone give me an idea of what i need to check? View 1 Replies View RelatedI have been setup a PDC with samba+ldap, is working, smbldap-tools working, I can create users, add machines, etc, really cool.Now I have seen MDS from Mandriva, cool tool to handle my network, I try to setup MDS, but looks like something is not good. I have follow the instructions from their site, I access the web page, but went I input my username + password my browser wait for ever and never receive any answer. It suppose that u have input the LDAP username and password from the admin. I had run the mmc-agent daemon as stand alone to see what is doing, but I see any issue:

pulled up an old clunker and put centos 5.4 on it the other day. well the grub spash screen appears but i have to manually hit enter to select a kernel.at the /boot/grub/grub.conf file and timeout=5. this is a new install. so I tried changing that value to 0 and it does boot the kernel immediately but never displays the splash screen. so something is not right I assume. btw I see a message (loading stage 2) for about 20 seconds as the computer boots and I have never seen that message on my ubuntu machine, so I wonder if something is off there.

Everything works normal:gui and terminal but no internet access. I'll run some commands on my Linux box and write the results , by hand , to this forum .

So if I'm understanding, it's trying to mod the user entry and the attribute isn't allowed.
Setting the memberofgroupattr to anything else gets me nothing noticeable. ldapsearch isn't showing memberof:
I've run the fixup-memberof.pl in /usr/lib64/dirsrv/slapd-hostname and I get:
I'm using ldapadmin from a Windows box to assign/delete people from groups. What I'm a little confused on is the difference between a group and a groupofuniquenames. I also see a difference when using the web gui (directory server gateway) in users. The gateway creates and entry while in ldapadmin I'm creating users. Not sure how that factors but the memberofgroupattr relies on what object class it is and I'm obviously trying the wrong things or something is busted elsewhere.
The error log isn't showing any other errors.
I can restart dirsrv just fine, nothing funny in the log when I do that:
i'm using centos 5.3 i think i restarted in a wrong way my computer and the gui isn't working anymore, i tried to login as root in the console login and run startx but it seemes i don't have X installed. Also i can't edit /etc/inittab because i don't have emacs or vim, how could i fix it?
