View 2 RepliesI installed Subversion and xinetd and added Subversion as a service to xinetd.conf as instructed at http://www.codeandcoffee.com/2007/06...rver-on-linux/
I restarted the xinetd service using /sbin/service. however, Subversion does not end up being listed in /etc/xinetd.d nor does it seem to be running and occupying the port altogether.
I have simpe question about xinetd what happen to my system if i remove xinetd.conf what can i do to dont allow anyone delete xinetd.conf.

I have managed to delete my yum.conf file and do not have a backup. I have tried reinstalling yum and it does complete but when I try and run yum I get cannot find any conf file. Is there a standard conf file I can download? I am running centos 5.3.

I've been scanning the apache2 docs for the past few days and have not come up with an answer my following issue:
In my httpd.conf file, at the very end, I have the line
Include conf/vhosts/vhost_*.conf
However, when I run apache checkconfig or try to start apache, it gives me the error:
httpd: Syntax error on line 993 of /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf: Could not open configuration file /etc/httpd/conf/vhosts/vhost_1.conf: Permission denied
It appears as if the Include line is correct - in terms of it grabbing the first virtual host conf file. However, I'm confused on the permissions. the /etc/httpd folder is owned by root:root, as are the subfolders. As a test, I chown'd the conf/vhost folder combination and all the vhost files to apache:apache to see if that made a difference, and it appeared to make no difference at all. The log files don't contain anything (assumed because apache isn't starting). If I place the contents of the vhosts in a singular vhosts.conf it works - with the permissions set to root:root. I'd like to avoid having to use one vhosts conf for the configuration I'm trying to achieve - as it would make my life a lot easier.
yesterday I installed my first CentOS system. Before I was always using Debian for my servers. When I configured my vsftpd I was just wondering how to setup xinetd or inetd for listening on ports and starting vsftpd. I found /etc/xinetd.d. But there is no xinetd installed by default. Why? Shall I start all my services in standalone mode? What is the concept of CentOS in this issue?

I'm setting up my CentOS server and I'm having issue with the VNC server. I've set up xinetd services for connections all of which work individually bringing me to a login window. But only one will work at a time. If I kill the process or if I click the disconnect button I can make a new one but as they are terminal sessions (using wait) I wanted to be able to leave one logged in and have the option of another connection if I wanted to log on a different user.
Can someone help with the setting which would be to allow more than one connection? I know if you setup permanent session paths in vncserver this should work but (and I'm sure this has worked for me in the past) the xinetd method is supposed to open up sessions as required. I am working from a write-up for doing this in Ubuntu and aside from odd path differences the only noticeable change is the guide uses vnc4server rather than vncserver that comes pre-installed on CentOS. Should that matter?
When i run the command:
It shows output as:

View 10 Replies View RelatedWhat is the best way of specifying the names of ethernet devices in CentOS5.5 or later? There seems to be at least two ways of doing this: Would the 60_net.rule file override a 010_netinterfaces.rules file because it gets executed later, or would the 010_ net interfaces. rule file set up the info in /sys which would then be used by 60_net.rule?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am trying to see if a can get a centos 5.5 server setup as an smtp store and forward spamfilter by following the Centos Wiki and the freespamfilter.org guide by Mr88Talent at [url], which relates to another linux distro.
The spamfilter is essentially working! however, i have one issue with DCC.
test problem:
I'm not sure if anyone else would be interested in a Centos version of Mr88Talent's tutorial, but a very rough and completely untested first effort is available at the following url: [url]
Any opinions on this setup or just a total slating of everything i have done wrong would be welcome as i don't want to waste time trying to use a setup that is just not going to be practical or reliable to maintain / keep operational.
I have read that yum update can break this type of system - which concerns me.
The intended use of the spamfilter is for a small business (only about twenty e-mail accounts). However, they still need to reliably receive e-mails (hopefully with less spam though).
I installed centos 5.5 Ent as host and i installed vmware server 2.2. i need to Change the location of the 'Virtual Machines' directory(/var/lib/vmware/Virtual Machines) to a directory on /home(/home/Virtual Machines) where there is more disk space.Reinstalling centos and reinstalling Vmware server is not the option for me.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI "inherited" a cluster of 2 systems with XenCluster, based on CentOS 5.5. About five weeks ago I ran the (long overdue) yum update, which crashed in the middle of updating on both nodes, so I had to reinstall all those packages by hand and had to re-enable their startup. So both systems are already in the not-ideal state.
One system rebooted itself during my absence and now won't boot anymore. It seems to boil down to clustered lvm not being activated in the initrd and therefore no VolGroup00 available, which contains the root. The other volume group has good reasons to be clustered but the root does not need to be. But I can't fix it from a rescue CD, every time the error comes up that the volume group is clustered. The exact error display at boot is at
http://people.cs.uu.nl/koos/screen-20100913140414.png
what do I do to either fix the startup to ignore VolGroup00 being clustered OR change the status of VolGroup00 to non-clustered?I notice the other system has this too so my best guess is that I'll have the same problem in a bigger way when this system reboots too. Hoping for no power failures...Relevant versions of stuff:
centos 5.5
kernel 2.6.18-194.11.1.el5xen
mkinitrd-5.1.19.6-61.el5_5.2
lvm2-2.02.56-8.el5_5.6
lvm2-cluster-2.02.56-7.el5_5.4
(from the still running system)
When ever I have an issue with our LDAP server (which I was able to fix) we see the following errors in /var/log/messages and it causes problems with our services running on that box, e.g. httpd, nrpe, xinetd, etc. Aug 8 17:44:42 hostname httpd: nss_ldap: failed to bind to LDAP server ldap://serveraddress/: Can't contact LDAP server Aug 8 17:44:42 hostname httpd: nss_ldap: reconnecting to LDAP server (sleeping 64 seconds)... I am only wanting to authenticate SSH and Sudo and not services like httpd, nrpe, xinetd etc.
