Ubuntu Networking :: How To Connect Local Server From Internet
Nov 9, 2010
I have dynamic internet connection. In my network one machine run glassfish server in port 8080 (it IP address 192.168.1.3). If I type http://192.168.1.3:8080/ that load my glassfish server page. What I want is using dynamic IP like http://<DynamicIP>:8080/ load my glassfish server page. How can I do it ? My router is Dlink GLB-802C > I haven't good knowledge about network.
I have a Dell PowerEdge 1650 server with 3 NICs in it. I am trying to use one NIC (eth0) to connect to the internet, the second NIC (eth1) to share the internet connection to a LAN, and the third NIC (eth2) to connect to the LAN.
It is running Ubuntu server 8.10
The problem that I'm having is that NetworkManager (version 0.7.0) keeps setting eth2 as the default connection, and then I don't get any internet at all from the server.
My main goal is to be able to share files from the server to computers on the LAN. The secondary goal is to have a virtual machine hosting a Halo server, connected through eth2, so that it can host LAN games. But that is a secondary goal after I get the connections to work.
I've been looking around and finding other people who have done bits and pieces of this, but not the whole thing. I had been hoping to simply use the NetworkManger, but I don't mind editing config files.
Also I can't seem to find any good instructions on editing the /etc/network/interfaces file. The man file is incomplete, and everything seems to point back to the man file.
I Have Ubuntu 9.10 Server installed and for some reason after updating our server with the ubuntu update manager, we can no longer connect to the network via remote desktop, let alone not even able to ping. We are actually able to connect to the internet itself just fine so I dont understand why this isn't working
I am using Fedora 11 all upgrades, wireless network WUSB54G network adapter. I can get to the internet but cannot get to any Windows (192.168.1.100) or Fedora 11 (...104) computers, printer (....101, 105). Here are the tests I have run.
[root@Fedora2 sbin]# ping 192.168.1.1 PING 192.168.1.1 (192.168.1.1) 56(84) bytes of data. 64 bytes from 192.168.1.1: icmp_seq=1 ttl=64 time=1.76 ms 64 bytes from 192.168.1.1: icmp_seq=2 ttl=64 time=268 ms 64 bytes from 192.168.1.1: icmp_seq=3 ttl=64 time=1.63 ms ^C --- 192.168.1.1 ping statistics ---
I am trying to connect to a nfs server on my local network ( the server is a fedora 12 box ) using slackware 13.1 but I am having some problems. First of all I am sure that the server is configured ok and my desktop can ping the server but when I try :
mount -t nfs 10.0.0.1:/home/usr/file /home/usr/tmp I get the following error : mount.nfs: No route to host
And when I try to rpcinfo -p 10.0.0.1 I get the error :
rpcinfo: can't contact portmapper: RPC: Remote system error - No route to host
i would like to setup one of my old pcs as a file server and internet gateway; we are living in a large building shared with 40 others. the ubuntu box would be the one connected to the internet via ethernet and sharing connexion via wifi. i haven't started yet - presently, i am doing the ground work and reading before to start i understand sharing the internet is relatively simple and can be done from the GUI
What we would like is slightly like BT Fon or BT Open Zone in the UK: you can hook on a free network but in order to access outside (internet: email, web, ftp, etc) you need to login login would help us monitor fair usage. I imagine something with username and password for each user would do: as we are a few in the same building not everyone is actually paying for the connection and we don't want to end up with rather large excess bills. So the ones who are paying access both files and internet; those who dont just have access to the files on the local server.
Do i need Ubuntu server to set this up? What hardware would be ideal - given we are all far from rich but willing to have a nice setup
It would be great if you could share some knowledge around the topic and eventually provide some tutorial; also any heads-up on the hardware side would be great! (signal booster, etc - there's 3 floors and 3 buildings)
I cannot get my server to connect to the internet. I have tried everything. I can talk to my local network so thats not a issue. I think it is my dns and gateway. I am trying to use open dns but do not know how to configure it. Here is my configuration now:
I am unable to connect to the Internet in lucid via a proxy server using apt-get or synaptic. Opera & firefox connects to the internet fine with the proxy setting.
I have tried the following solutions:
1) set proxy setting using systems|preferences|network proxy
2) editing ~/.bashrc & /etc/.bashrc
3) creating a /etc/apt/apt.conf file.
4) putting the proxy setting in synaptic
For the proxy setting I have used the both the verbose name as well as the ip address. There is no logon requirements for the proxy server. Either formats work in the browsers.
I have a home network, with an OpenWrt router operating successfully as DHCP server (using DNSMasq). I'm planning to install LinuxMCE on my main fileserver and in order for this to properly detect devices around the home it requires that it is the DHCP server. That would be fine except that I sometimes power down the fileserver (eg. when my in-laws sleep in the spare room where the server lives) and that would leave me with no DHCP which creates problems (when my in-laws want to get their laptop connected to the internet).
One answer is to get new in-laws which would be OK except that I'm still pretty keen on my wife. Alternatively is there any way to set up a fallback DHCP server ie. the router would check if there's a functioning DHCP server on the network (ie. the fileserver) and if it gets no response it will serve DHCP addresses itself.
I have one pc on which I have installed slackware and samba (fixed IP, mask 255.255.255.0) I have another PC (also XP) which also has fixed IP running XP, and I can connect that to the slackware server easily My third PC connects to the internet and gets its IP address from the Cisco router(?) that provides the IP and mask on boot up.
I tried changing the IP and Mask on the slackware server to match the internet PC (which uses a mask 255.255.254.0) but the PC mask and IP changed on the internet PC I want the PC that connects to the internet to also be able to connect to the slackware server, but I see no need for the slackware server to also connect to the internet - I will mainly use it as a file server When I worked for another company I think the IT department talked about having 2 network cards in the PC that connects to the internet
I've tried /etc/init.d/mysql start, and it actually starts, or at least, it doesn't error out. But when I do pgrep mysql I get nothing, and when I try to login with mysql -p as root, I get
ERROR 2002 (HY000): Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' (2)
None of my other logins work, either, but since pgrep mysql didn't work, it's clear that MySQL just isn't running. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling mysql-server via apt-get, but I get the same thing. The logs in /var/log/syslog show this:
Apr 11 14:31:26 /etc/init.d/mysql[9774]: #007/usr/bin/mysqladmin: connect to server at 'localhost' failed Apr 11 14:31:26 /etc/init.d/mysql[9774]: error: 'Can't connect to local MySQL server
i have been havin a little trouble with my ftp server im using proftpd and have been able to connect to the box on local lan but it stops with an error about tls packet.
i have been following a guide on settin up my server [URL]...and have attached my config and error details
On this box I have Two seperate Ubuntu installations. Recently in both I seem to be having the same problem. I initially can connect to the internet as per normal and use any internet application. But after a period of time, sometimes just minutes, sometimes hours, even though the icon says connected, I cant update pages or send emails etc because there is no actual connection. My Physical connection is good I know - My Ubuntu laptop and Windows gamming PC connect fine during this period. So
Does this suggest an intermittent hardware fault or is there some thing in Ubuntu I can check to make sure that it is setup correctly and nothing has been corrupted? I am a lay PC person - I dont really want to be command prompting - Plug & Play and Point & Click is my limit.
I tried to install Xubuntu 10.10 Maverick as dual boot on my laptop. However when xubuntu is on, I can't find a way to connect to internet. When I try the 2 arrows on the up-right corner the option for wireless is deemed. I tried offline/online, that did not work either. when I click the firefox It says you are not connected.
I get this error. ERROR 2002 (HY000): Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' (2)
So, I checked whether the file mysqld.sock is there in its respective folder, but I could not find that file. How to create the file and start mysql server.
I am trying to setup a dhcp server for my internal network. I have two NICs, a modem, and a wireless router. I have my server connected directly to my modem which is providing me with Internet access on eth1 and is working fine. I have dhcp and dns setup on eth0 which is connected to my router. The router shows that it is connected to the Internet but when the router gives a client computer an IP address, the client is unable to connect to the Internet but can connect to the router. I will post my configuration files below with my current configuration.
I can connect to the internet through wifi, but I cannot connect to anything on my network. I have a printer and a NAS, so I would really like for this to work again. I have a dell laptop with a Broadcom card.
My local network contain four computers and they have dynamic Internet connection. i want to access one of my local network computer using ip address or name when i am at my office or any other place. so how can i do this sort of thing. I not care about security issues. My network all computer have Ubuntu 10.04 and their ip range is 192.168.1.2 to 192.168.1.6. Note :- My machine have glass-fish server that what i want to access(using 8080 port) remotely.
up until about four days ago connecting to the local LAN was as simple as booting Ubuntu, and letting nm-applet automatically connect on Auto Eth0 But the other day it just randomly stopped working, with no cause that I can think of. I can still connect to the internet (This is via a PPPOE connection, running through the same wired interface) so it can't be a hardware problem with the ethernet port/cables themselves. nm-applet just stays spinning in circles, and nothing ever happens. I tried deleting the auto Eth0 entry, and creating another LAN entry with exactly the same settings, but I still get the same problems. way to completely restore nm-applet settings? Or some other way to give me access to the local network?
In my computer networking class I have the option of doing a project where I set up a dns server for our classroom network. The problem is that this network is totally separate from the school network and we aren't allowed to connect it to the internet. I want all the machines to ping each other by name instead of ip using dns instead of host files on all 20 computers. I read on a site somewhere that you cannot do this because the dns queries will always go to the root servers. Is this correct? Is there some way I can do this using dns? The machine in question is using Ubuntu 9.04.
I wanted to be able to have separate NICs with separate IPs connecting to separate gateways on a machine so I could put an ftpd on each one. I tried binding an ftpd to each, and running separate instances of the ftpd. I tried virtual hosts.
NOTHING worked. I could either use one ftpd or the other. I could either connect via ssh on one IP or the other. the second I turned one NIC off stuff would work again. I messed with basic iproute commands, andnothng worked until I got this script to run, which allowed me to use each NIC independant of the other.
Code: #!/bin/sh #ip route flush all ip route del default dev eth1 ip route del default dev eth0 ip route del table 1 ip route add table 1 to default via 10.10.10.1 dev eth1 code....
But now, samba client doesn't work. cifs mounting doesn't work either. It can't connect.
BEFORE I ran that script, I could connect via ssh, or to the ftpd running on the machine using a LOCAL IP - 10.10.10.2. AFTER, I have to use the external IP, or I cannot connect. I know that has something to do with it, but I do not have the advanced linux routing knowledge to redo the script or come up with a solution.
I'm using fedora 13(x86_64).i got an error message while starting the mysql database software through the kernel. Code: [pradeep@localhost ~]$ mysql ERROR 2002 (HY000): Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (2) [pradeep@localhost ~]$ this is the first time i'm using the mysql in linux environment. do i have to configure anything before using it for the first time ?!
i am new member for this forum, i am doing copy data from virtualbox A centos machine to virtualbox B centos machine.first step i use mysqldump database xxx > xxx.sqlthan send to B machine by scp xxx.sql @B machine IP /root.but come to third step, the xxx.sql need import to B machine mysql database, the error occur again:# can't connect to local mysql server through socket 'opt/lampp/lampp/mysql/mysql.socki really dun know how to solve it, use almost 3 hour cannot do solve it,but i use win scp check the folder, i found mysql.sock is no at the /opt/lampp/lampp/mysql/mysql.sock but at/opt/lampp/var/mysql/mysql.socpi dun know how to continue it, i hope those centos user help me to overcomethe issue. thank you very much!centos version 5.5, xampp version 1.4
I some how installed mysql-5.1.46 (I believe I have installed) When I start mysql I am getting error: [root@501 ~]# mysql ERROR 2002 (HY000): Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/tmp/mysql.sock' (2)
Then when I restart: [root@501 ~]# /etc/init.d/mysql restart ERROR! MySQL manager or server PID file could not be found! Starting MySQL. ERROR! Manager of pid-file quit without updating file.
Then I tried to safe start mysql : [root@501 ~]# mysqld_safe 100426 21:36:49 mysqld_safe Logging to '/usr/local/mysql/data/501.training.com.err'. 100426 21:36:49 mysqld_safe Starting mysqld daemon with databases from /usr/local/mysql/data 100426 21:36:49 mysqld_safe mysqld from pid file /usr/local/mysql/data/501.training.com.pid ended .....
when i tried the command mysql -u root it is giving me an error that "Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock'(2)" although my mysql server is ruuning beacuse i m using XAMMP server and its inbuild mysql server is running i cannot use service mysqld start command beacuse this command try to start another instance of mysql and i required mysql of XAMMP.
