Ubuntu :: Windows Fonts File Are Same Or Different?
Mar 12, 2011
that windows and Ubuntu have same founts file or different. because some fonts is very beautiful and i should purchase it for our Ubuntu 1010. or any font converter for Ubuntu Operating system.
I have been using Ubuntu at home for over a year now and just love it..by far because of the way it looks..but unfortunately I have to use XP for my one work computer and have wondered for a long time if there is a way to install a font in XP that will give me the Ubuntu font look on windows?
i am trying (at a loss) to import the windows fonts on to my ubuntu machine, I've fond a tut... but i'm still new to Linux and the command stuff, could anyone give me the heads up?
After Buying a Router I have Internet connection to Ubuntu. I used to surf the net using Ubuntu when I was using my Mobile to Get Internet. But after Getting ADSL I switched to Windows because My Past Modem didn't work with Ubuntu. So I bought a router.
Now My Problem is Ubuntu fonts are Smaller and bit different in Web Browsers. I have both Firefox and Cromium in Ubuntu.
Now I want is to make Ubuntu Browser Fonts make similar to Windows 7 or Any Windows version.
I installed a Gnome Theme that Works like Windows 7 theme but it didn't change the Browser fonts so I removed it.
I'm trying to use the windows fonts on my linux machine. I've found a nice tutorial which suggests to change the dpi to 96x96 (windows default).
It seems that i'm not able to change the dpi. I've tried with sax2 => no luck. Manually editing the xorg.conf file => no luck. My dpi remain always the same. I've logged out even rebooted. Same.
# xdpyinfo | grep dimen dimensions: 1600x900 pixels (443x249 millimeters) # xdpyinfo | grep resol resolution: 92x92 dots per inch
I've changed the dimensions to 423x238 mm. I should get a 96x96 dpi with these but no. After restarting, xdpyinfo shows the same old settings.
Is there any way to use TTF fonts for the screen (CLI not X-Windows)? I added a font in /usr/share/fonts/TTF and updated all font directories, and then issued the setconsolefont command, but my font is not there. Actually, I didn't see any TTF fonts in the list at all, even though there are already some in the TTF directory.
I have clean installed my system to 11.04 and lost some important fonts of course. I am using specialist IPA fonts for some important documents, but the file is in exe form. However, I have that blocked executable bit problem. It's getting really annoying, as now many legitimate programs that I have can't be used on Linux anymore. All I need to do is extract the file and then let Ubuntu install the ttf (as it has done so in the past).
I would like to use the Adobe Garamond Pro in my text doccument in open office writer. I got a text document where from a friend where it is used so I know that it can. But when I want to edit I cant find it in the fonts dropdown menu.
I have a folder with over 1500 fonts, I would like to move them to my /usr/share/fonts folder so that they can be used. Some are from Windows, some are just random extras. I've installed the msttcorefonts, but there are quite a few missing that make some wen pages look different.
How can I go about putting the fonts from my folder, into the appropriate /usr/share/fonts folder to be used? And how can I move them all? I can't drag and drop them, and mv FONT_NAME /usr/share/fonts for all of them will take a month or two. Is there a way to elevate my self to be able to just drag and drop them all? And which folder would they need to go into for them to be used in Chrome and Firefox?
A tutorial says in order to add new fonts, take you font file and put them into a newly created directory inside your home folder and name it ".fonts". Reset and they will be ready to use.
I'm not able to do this from Nautilus View because of the error that I do not have permission to do so.
I have made the dir in terminal using sudo mkdir
moving the actual fonts from my desktop into the actual folder. I don't know how to do it.
I have used Ubuntu and Linux Mint for quite some time now until I got a new machine. Some friends told me to try OpenSUSE because it has really been polished over the last few years.Install went smoothly got everything working properly except for my video card. My video card is an ATI HD4890 with sound support over HDMI. I had the sound working in Ubuntu using the non-oss ATI drivers. I was wondering if someone could please teach me how to install them again here on OpenSUSE 11.3. My screen fonts and colors also look terrible compared to Windows or Ubuntu.
Is there a way I can make it look better? I remember CCC (Catalyst Control Center for ATI) had two color formats (RGB and YCbCr). I had to set it to YCbCr because my screen is an HDTV and it looked much cleaner than RGB. Is there a way I can acheive similar results with OpenSUSE?
I have just installed openSUSE 11.2 X86_64 on my laptop, I then used KDE to install lots of type 1 fonts for my printer. These get loaded to /usr/local/share/fonts/...These installed fonts are visible to KDE (KWRITE) and GIMP so I assume that the installation was O.K. When I start openOFFICE writer I do not see these fonts. The font selection appears to be the fonts located under /usr/share/fonts. I have not tried other ooo3 components. I assume that they are not going to see the fonts either.
I have searched google and it appears that /usr/local/share/fonts is the correct location for non-packaged fonts. Has anybody any idea what is wrong? I think I could move all the fonts to /usr/share/fonts and ooo3 would work but this seems to break the installation directory structure. I have considered symlinks but I don't like the idea of defining a font twice to Linux and creating the syslinks is more work than reinstalling the fonts if they are lost
1. What do I need to set all the fonts to in 11.04 to make them look more like W7 fonts?2. Is there a way I can improve the graphics in WINE? Some very simple games run slow. Is there a way I can change the cursors in wine.
I have NDISWRAPPER installed on my laptop, but when I try to install the download file which is a Windows Xp dos executable file of 8mbs I have tried every thing but without success I can see my Iomega 250 Zip drive when I go into system>administration>disk utilities and acess properties but cannot make it run,
Can windows read files from a home file server with an ext4 file system? or do I have to partition the drive with the server (ext4) and an ntfs partition with the files on?
attempting to install VLC I get the following errors;
Error in file "/usr/share/applications/kde4/kfontview.desktop": "fonts/package" is an invalid MIME type ("fonts" is an unregistered media type) Warning in file "/usr/share/applications/gnome-nautilus-folder-handler.desktop": usage of MIME type "x-directory/gnome-default-handler" is discouraged ("x-directory" is an old media type that should be replaced with a modern equivalent) Warning in file "/usr/share/applications/gnome-nautilus-folder-handler.desktop": usage of MIME type "x-directory/normal" is discouraged ("x-directory" is an old media type that should be replaced with a modern equivalent)
Thoughts or suggestions on how to fix this. I running Fedora 13 and I used 'yum install vlc' to install the app.
Vista Recovery Windows 7 GRUB Extended -->Fedora 12 (ext4)
so, I shrunk my recovery in Windows 7 successfully, and booted into my Fedora 12 live cd to run Gparted, and move the partitions so that the free space could go towards fedora, I did such, and then I couldn't expand the partition to my dismay. Next, I woke up this morning, tried to boot to fedora to run SSH, grub loaded, but when I tried to boot fedora, I got the "File system check failed" error, and when I tried 7, it just went to a blank screen with a single "_" in the top left-hand corner.
What are the possible problem when Windows access the file from Ubuntu got Read Only even though have a full permission to read, write and execute the file? Ubuntu to Ubuntu accessing the file there is no problem only Windows got a problem.
I made an 8GB password protected Zip file on Ubuntu 10.10, sent it to a friend who's using Windows 7, and now she can't unzip it. The file transfer speeds between us are very slow, so I don't want to resend it. Every application she's tried (WinRAR, WinZip, and 7Zip) fails and gives some sort of "invalid archive format" error.
I had her do an MD5 checksum on the file and it matches mine. So, the likelihood of it being damaged during transmission is very small. I also successfully unzipped it on my end and used TeamViewer to try and get it unzipped on her end, just to make sure she wasn't doing anything wrong, she wasn't.
What could be the problem be UbuntuForums? Is there a difference in the way Windows and Linux handles zip files that is causing this problem?
I keep trying and keep trying to set up my father's documents folder on our PC running Ubuntu 11.04 as a shared folder across the network with Windows computers, and I keep getting error messages like this one:
"'net usershare' returned error 255: net usershare add: cannot share path /home/frank as we are restricted to only sharing directories we own. Ask the administrator to add the line "usershare owner only = false" to the [global] section of the smb.conf to allow this."
I currently have his home folder set up so anyone on our PC running Ubuntu can access and change the files, at the moment. I also want to know if I can set up this file sharing with Windows, but still have all his files protected with a password?
For an assignment in school we were supposed to access the configuration file for X - Window, in particular change the screen resolution. According to my Comp TIA Linux + book we are supposed to use: gedit /etc/X11/xorg.conf . All it does is open a blank document named xorg.conf, I checked the spelling, I used my graphical interface to route to /etc then I opened X11, but there is no xorg .conf. by the way I have installed a recent updates as well.
So I have tried google but it has been a big old fail on my end to find some info I need. I have been using Linux for a while now at home, and am currently running both Ubuntu Server and Desktop at home. Now because I like Linux so much I am trying to bring it into my work place.
What I am trying to accomplish, but do not know where to look is to have my Linux File server accessible through a VPN that is currently running on a Windows Server 2003. I have Samba up and running to share, and Likewise-open for AD.
...I have found that in MS word/excel that the fonts don't look right, even though it states they are installed. I don't know if anyone else has experienced this also. I have installed the MS fonts after following the guidance. Usually the fonts look thinner than they should. I have recently installed (wubi) 10.04 & haven't installed any office apps to see if it also happens now....I will note: This isn't limited to MS software. I see it happen with other software that requires WINE to use. So, I think it is a WINE issue. Has anyone found a resolution to this?
I have active directory users. User can log on with username/password from active directory in ubuntu. Users have their directory on Windows file server. They have read and execute rights on file on windows file server with same username and password from active directory(192.168.2.1/file/username for each user). I want that user's directory on windows file server mount to /home/username/disk on logon for each user, which logon in ubuntu.
