From my laptop I use at work, I exported the ".pcf" file I use with Cisco VPN Client.
I downloaded vpnc using Ubuntu 10.10, imported that pcf file (all of the settings were there). Tried to connect, and it gives me the error saying
The VPN Connection 'Work VPN' failed because there were no valid VPN secrets..

I had some success with handrake to rip dvd's in older versions of ubuntu. i now have a clean install of 10.10 and know that handbrake is not compatible (even tried the ppa of the nighly builds without success). In looking for alternatives, i cam across arista transcoder....which seems perfect for my needs (simple), but whenever i put a dvd in the queue its gives me an error that says conversion failed....no valid dvd title found. this happens no matter what dvd i use and no matter what preset i choose.

concerning controlling the windows in virtual desktop.
a) Say to a application to be launched to virtual desktop 2 for example.
b) How can you ask from a virtual application to be only visible at one virtual desktop. For example I work on virtual desktop 6 and I want to start skype that should be on virtual desktop 2. Right now If I launch the app on virtual desktop 6 it will appear on the same one. Would it be possible to ask for an applicaiton to be launched on an other virtual desktop. If yew how?

I need to run an application on a virtual desktop (let say desktop #2) and control it via another app running on the root desktop (desktop #1). That would include screen capture and mouse movements. So basically I capture the application window from desktop #2, scrape it and then click on buttons via my app on desktop #1. Anyway you got the idea. Now my big question is: is that doable ? and if so what's the best language to do it ?

I accidentally deleted my bin just after booting up when the bin application failed to start properly. I can still send items to trash (right clicking and select from drop down menu) but I cannot restore them, see the bin icon or drag items to the bin area. It is quite annoying and I would be very grateful for comprehensive instructions on how to restore the bin to full operational functionality.

after upgrading VirtualBox from 3.0.x to VirtualBox-OSE-3.1.2-1.fc12.x86_64 VBox fails to start any virtual machine with error: Failed to open/create the internal network 'HostInterfaceNetworking-eth0' (VERR_SUPDRV_COMPONENT_NOT_FOUND).
When I run
sudo /etc/sysconfig/modules/VirtualBox-OSE.modules
I get
FATAL: Error inserting vboxnetflt (/lib/modules/2.6.31.12-174.2.19.fc12.x86_64/extra/VirtualBox-OSE/vboxnetflt.ko): Invalid module format
FATAL: Error inserting vboxnetadp (/lib/modules/2.6.31.12-174.2.19.fc12.x86_64/extra/VirtualBox-OSE/vboxnetadp.ko): Invalid module format
Kernel is (obviously) kernel-2.6.31.12-174.2.19.fc12.x86_64, but same thing happens with any installed kernel, IE kernel-rt-2.6.31.12-1.rt20.1.fc12.ccrma.x86_64
I reinstalled VBox and kmods got rebuilt but the problem persists.

I'am using gentoo linux. After some system's updates VirtualBox stoped loading any virtual machine with error:
Code: Failed to open a session for the virtual machine. Virtual machine has terminated unexpectedly during startup.
Details:
Result Code: NS_ERROR_FAILURE (0x80004005)
Component: Machine
Interface: IMachine {99404f50-dd10-40d3-889b-dd2f79f1e95e} Kernel log

So, i've rebuilded all VirtualBox dependencies with safe flags, then i've recompiled most of the sys-* packages also with safe flags. However VirtualBox still doesn't work.
UPD: virtualbox-bin-3.1.4
UPD2: 3.1.6 and ose-versions crashes with same errors

When i try to create a virtual machine using the Windows 7 Enterprise Evaluation iso file, everything goes as planned untill i click on the start button. when i click on it i get two error messages. the first: Failed to open a session for the virtual machine Windows 7. The virtual machine 'Windows 7' has terminated unexpectedly during startup with exit code 1. Kernel driver not installed (rc=-1908). The VirtualBox Linux kernel driver (vboxdrv) is either not loaded or there is a permission problem with /dev/vboxdrv. reinstall the kernel module by executing
'/etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup'
as root. Users of Ubuntu, Fedora or Mandriva should install the DKMS package first. This package keeps track of Linux kernel changes and recompiles the vboxdrv kernel module if necessary. i have installed the DKMS package, but when i try to run the command stated in the error message, i get another error message in the terminal:
[code]...
i have to install the driver that is specified (vboxdrv) but i do not know where to find it.

I'm writing here because it's mainly a security issue even though it's rather kernel related.
I'm compiling my own vanilla kernel with an initramfs included in the bzImage. That image contains encryption keys for the rest of the system. Even though it's not for everybody the initramfs image can be extracted from the kernel, decompressed and the keys extracted.
I'm looking on a way to prevent this.

I have recently been tasked to extract the subtitles from a lot of mkv files. Hundreds of them, maybe even more than a thousand. To do this, I modified a script I found online:
#!/bin/bash
IFS="|"
if test -z $1; then
[Code].....
So in the above example the subtitle is actually in track number one and my script would be borked for that particular file. Is there a way to integrate mkvinfo into the script and parse it to see what track should be extracted? Like, read it line-by-line and change the value of some #TRACKNO variable everytime a string like "| + Track number:" appears, and stop when a string like "| + Track type: subtitles" appears? Maybe even skip doing anything if there aren't any subtitles.
PS: I actually prefer SRT subtitles to ***. If there was some command line tool I could use to convert the resulting *** file to SRT I would be much obliged.

I thought of a command that would make my life easier, though I do not know how to deploy it with bash script. The idea- A simple script that would check in a the current directory for *.bz2 or *.gz files, and when finds one of those,or both - execute a tar -xvf *.bz2/*.gz following the files that have been found there. It should be very simple,as I am very new to bash,I can`t figure that out. I wrote :
[Code]....
The idea ls command that would find *.gz files in the current dir, then it outputs the errors to ./tmp.txt, if there were no errors = a tar.gz archive found, tmp.txt will be blank, hence the cat command that checks the file. The wrong - I couldn`t succeed with the "cat 'tmp.txt' == '' ;" ,as cat command searches == as a file and it fails.
