Ubuntu :: Can't Get Gconf-editor To Take Commands

Jul 24, 2011

I opened Alt-F2 > gconf-editor > metacity and used command_1 in keybinding_commands. The type was string and the value xterm. I then moved to global_keybindings and used run_command_1. The value was now <Control><Alt><Shift>p. Nothing happens when I press the key combination. I've tried other key combinations also. And I've tried to run root as root and as user. rebooted. Nothing happens. If I change an existing key combination it takes it immediately an xterm pops up.

Ubuntu :: How To Create Commands For Menu Editor

Apr 17, 2011

Now and then i want to add a command for installed application that hasn't put an icon in the Main Menu. What is missing, that i do not know how to research, are the mysterious pieces of code following the application name in the Command line of the dialog box for making a new Menu entry, invariably including the % sign and letters for options. If i simply write the name, e.g. mc or aiksaurus (magnificent thesaurus), the new entry doesn't work, although it might work through the terminal or Alt+F2.

Needless to say, i will be VERY grateful. I am otherwise installing applications that cannot be used. I love this community and the vision...the love that will replace money and transform this world.

Ubuntu :: Text Editor Column Editor And Regex Search/replace, Incrementing Number Insert?

Jul 25, 2011

On windows I really only used Notepad++ as my text editor, it had two features that I loved. What I need to accomplish is what I would do with Notepad++ column editor.I could have like 100 lines, and place the cursor at a column, and goto edit>column editor, and I could insert an incrementing number. (I could also pad the incrementing number with 0s, this was GREAT for making batch files among other things.)So each line at that column had a number higher than the previous line. The other feature that I used sometimes was a search/replace with regex patterns.Does anyone know of an editor that has those features for linux? I am mostly after the column editor insert feature but if you know of one with both features that would rock.

Ubuntu :: Looking For Specific Text Editor

Jul 20, 2010

You know how nano, vi, vim, etc... all use the entire screen when they are started? I am wondering if it is possible to get a text editor (or modifying an existing one) that doesn't take the entire terminal. The reason for this is that I to look at the output of a different command, then modify a different file while looking at the output. I want to be able to do this very fast, and it would be great if there was some way I could this all in one shell instead of creating two terminals and resizing or flipping between them. I realize the ideal solution would be a second monitor, but I can't get that right now.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: MP3 Tag Editor - Can't Que Albums Up

Nov 22, 2010

What I am trying to do: I have a lot of 2 or 3 CD compilation sets. I like to re do the track numbers to 101/102/103/104 etc for CD1, 201/202/203 etc for CD2, 301/302/303/etc for CD3. I then give them all the same album name. This then means I can listen to all 3 CDs on a journey non stop with out having to take my MP3 player out my coat to change it. Otherwise my MP3 player sees each CD as a different album and I can't que albums up on it - or if I just rename the album to the same on all 3 in the tags it plays track 1 from cd 1, then track 1 from cd 2, and so on. In MP3tag I would just select the tracks, go to the auto numbering wizard, and tell it to start at 101 (or 201 or 301 depending on the CD number).

Apr 9, 2011

I am learning to do some html, php and css. I read that a normal word processor will not do. Here is what I am suppsed to use... Before you settle on a text editor, make sure it has the following features: Supports syntax highlighting for HTML, CSS, Javascript and PHP. you to code and debug faster by visually separating the different elements of the file. For example, such a text editor might highlight PHP code in blue and HTML code in red. Automatic error highlighting for HTML, CSS, Javascript and PHP. you catch errors in your programs while you are writing your code before these errors are detected when you run your program in Zen Cart. For example, if you fail to specify a closing tag for your HTML code, the editor uses a red underline to highlight the offending HTML tag.
